Pros
This solution allows us to quickly drill down when there are issues. We use it extensively for performance tuning testing, monitoring, and configuration.SQL Tuning Advisor, ADDM, Top Activity, ASM Space Manager, Incident NotificationsThe most valuable feature is high availability. The 13cR2 updates to the OEM family, strongly integrate Cloud (off-site, hybrid and on-premise) services providing a seamless way to see all of your resources regardless of where they are deployed.I have found the singular GUI feature very helpful. Fewer DBA resources can be allocated with Toad licenses.Oracle Enterprise Manager has eased the responsibilities among our DBAs. We can now assign individual tasks to separate DBAs.With ASH Analytics, ADDM, Real-Time SQL Monitoring, SQL Tuning Advisor, we can measure SLAs, detect performance hotspots, perform deep diagnostics into specific tiers, tune applications, and remediate.

Toad has a lot of features that are very useful, fast, and well developed. The most valuable feature is the navigation within the UI, where you can right-click on an object in an SQL query and go right to it, versus going through all of the menus to find what you are looking for.The best product for working with Oracle databases for support, checking and loading data.

Cons
The product is pretty comprehensive, but quite resource hungry. This might be due to the majority of the application seemingly being written in Java.Better mobile access would be useful.Patching. It's extremely difficult to determine what requires patching and the process to patch each component is slightly different.RMAN tools need improvement.Reporting and statistical charting is largely still left up the end-user to develop custom solutions. They should improve the hover text context. This would provide assistance whenever a task is attempted by a DBA.

I would like to see an improvement in the performance because opening the browser and the editor should be faster. The way the dialog boxes appear can be improved. There may be an issue with processing limitations but this cannot be confirmed as a problem with the product or with the newest releases. Many users don't know how to add licensing to Toad, or where it is shown, so they could make that easier.

Pricing and Cost Advice
Evaluate your requirements carefully. Elaborate DR and HA setup of OEM can become expensive.Be careful to only enable the packs for which you have a license as this is an issue we see time and again. There are a few bugs with the software which require opening SRs with Oracle Support which contribute to the day-to-day cost. Perhaps 8 hours per month is spent dealing with support, just as a rough guess. The pricing is very high.Based upon 3 days of implementation by a single person, plus licensing costs would be approximately $60,000, including the virtualized hosts. The basic functions are free. You only pay license fees for advanced features.

In my opinion, this solution is a little expensive, but I understand that good programs cost more money. The professional edition is about $1,000 AUD ($700 USD) and the developer version is about twice that much. There are paid and free-for-use versions of the product.
