Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It's simple to set up.""With certainty, the best feature of UFT is its compatibility with so many products, tools and technologies. It is a challenge currently to find a single tool on the market besides UFT that will successfully work for so many projects and environments. For example, UFT supports GUI testing of Oracle, PeopleSoft, PowerBuilder, SAP (v7.20), Siebel, Stingray, Terminal Emulator, Putty, and Windows Objects (particularly Dialog Boxes). Furthermore, UFT has the built-in functionality to import Excel input files.""My company has not had an issue with OpenText UFT One since we have been using it for the past three to four years.""Object Repository Technology, which is a good mean to identify graphical components of the applications under test.""The entire framework is very useful. It's easily integrable with Excel.""Compared to other products, UFT One is better, faster, and more accurate.""The solution is easy to integrate with other platforms.""The best feature of UFT by far is its compatibility with a large variety of products, tools and technologies. It is currently a challenge to find a single tool on the market besides UFT that will successfully automate tests for so many projects and environments."

"The initial setup is simple.""The scalability is good.""The variables part is good. We can easily define the variables and we don't have to manually do a change every time, it gets automatically updated.""The most valuable feature is that JavaScript can be included as tests.""It is stable and reliable.""The solution collects scenarios and allows for testing SOAP API, REST API and API automation at the same time.""It is a stable solution.""Postman helps us to automate the API testing in the team."

Cons
"I would like Micro Focus to provide more information on their portal about their newer products. The information about UFT One was outdated. The image recognition features could also be better.""The overall design needs an entire overhaul. We prefer software designed to ensure the package isn't too loaded.""Perhaps more coverage as far as different languages go. I'm talking more about object identification.""They need to reduce the licensing cost. There's pushback from customers because of the cost.""UFT has a recording feature. They could make the recording feature window bigger for whatever activities that I am recording. It would improve the user experience if they could create a separate floating panel (or have it automatically show on the side) once the recording starts.""Sometimes, the results' file size can be intense. I wish it was a little more compact.""The artificial intelligence functionality is applicable only on the web, and it should be expanded to cover non-web applications as well.""The product should evolve to be flexible so one can use any programming language such as Java and C#, and not just VB script."

"If you have knowledge of JavaScript, the initial setup is easy and straightforward. If not, it may take some time to learn about JavaScript before starting the implementation.""It would be better if we could integrate programming languages like .NET, Java, and JavaScript. It could also be more user-friendly.""Postman quality assurance could improve when doing tests.""Multi-part requests should be handled in the octet-stream.""One thing which Postman needs to improve is the documentation. The documentation of Postman is not that great when compared to other tools.""Postman is a bit more of a complex tool, making it an area where improvements can be made.""I would like that if you click on one of the fields you should be able to see the entire row of fields, names, and values.""I would like to see improvements in the maintenance of the scripts and their collections. It is really painful that the user cannot drag and drop. It was also painful to create the standard suite of operations for the product. I am not sure if this is improved in the tool’s latest versions. The maintenance of the complex scenarios prompted us to use the solution only for unit testing. In the future, we may switch to the k6 framework."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It took about five years to break even. UFT is costly."
  • "The licensing and pricing model is confusing."
  • "It's an expensive solution."
  • "For the price of five automation licenses, you simply would not be able to hire five manual testers for two years worth of 24/7 manual testing work on demand."
  • "The price is only $3,000. I don't know how many QA analysts you would have in any given company. Probably no more than five or 10. So if it's a large corporation, it can easily afford $15,000 to $25,000. I don't see that being an issue."
  • "The way the pricing model works is that you pay a whole boatload year one. Then, every year after, it is around half or less. Because instead of paying for the new product, you are just paying for the support and maintenance of it. That is probably one of the biggest things that I hear from most people, even at conferences, "Yeah, I would love to use UFT One, but we don't have a budget for it.""
  • "The pricing fee is good. If someone makes use of the solution once a day for a half hour then the fee will be more expensive. For continuous use and application of the solution to different use cases, the fee is average."
  • "The price is one aspect that could be improved."

  • "It is free."
  • "We are currently using the free version, but we have plans to buy a license."
  • "We are using the free version that is available."
  • "Its price is moderate as compared to other competitors. The version that we are using is not open source, so it is not free."
  • "The solution is open-source and free."
  • "I am using the free option."
  • "Postman is a free service."
  • "Unlike APIs, the solution does not require a license."
