Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The ability to switch between Affinity and non-Affinity enrollment is great.""The solution is scalable. We currently have tens of thousands of users within our organization using the solution.""I like the tool's integration with Apple. Anyone who creates an ID in Intune will get an Apple ID.""I like how Microsoft Intune lets me lock down the email profile and make it accessible only on certain devices.""The conditional access policies that we set up are very useful.""The solution appears to be stable and scalable.""The most valuable feature of Microsoft Intune is having all our devices compliant with our policies.""Autopilot is the most valuable feature."

"The main purpose for this automation tool would be: deploying, controlling, ordering change for the system and IT Infrastructure.""Puppet Enterprise is a stable solution.""Puppet Enterprise has reduced the time of production changes or environment changes.""Puppet3 and 4 series provides optimum deployment solutions for infrastructure and applications.""The versatility is great.""The most valuable features are the agent, high load balancing, and overall robustness and features.""Anything that we manage through Puppet always runs perfectly.""Puppet Enterprise has good functionalities."

More Puppet Enterprise Pros →

"It has an easy-to-use interface. It is REST API driven, and it integrates with Active Directory. It provides the ability to grant permissions to other users who would not necessarily have those permissions via the GUI so that they could run other people's jobs. For example, you could have the Oracle team grant permissions to the Linux team so that they can use each of those playbooks or each other's code. It is called shift-left.""I like Ansible's ease of use. If you have Linux skills, you can create a reusable template for the dependencies and other configurations. I can store the templates in a repository and share them with my customers or other developers. It's a popular solution, so there is a large user base that can share templates.""Ansible Tower provides a GUI, which is an enhancement, and a well-liked feature by operation teams.""On the network side, I already have a lot of our firewall related processes automated. If it's not automated all the way from the ticket system, our network team members, our tier-one guys in India, can just go into the Tower web interface and fill in a couple of survey questions.""Ansible Galaxy is helpful for roles and Git Submodules: No dependency in managing playbooks. Also, fact caching in redis for host/role grp information speeds up execution. Finally, variable management is easy.""The automation manager is very good.""It enabled me to take the old build manifest and automated everything. So when it came time to spin everything up, it was quick and simple. I could spin it up and test it out. And then, when it came time to roll production, it was a done deal. When we expanded to multiple data centers, it was same thing: Change a few IP addresses, change some names, and off we went.""I like the fact that Ansible is agentless."

Cons
"Could benefit from user having more control over devices.""Microsoft Intune needs to improve the initial login process.""They could also make it easier to use because there are some other products that may be easier to use in terms of the look and feel of the dashboard.""The UI also needs improvements because it is complex for end-users. We have had feedback from a few users in our organization who found the UI is not feasible for tracking and analyzing all the processes and monitoring all the devices.""Lacking ability to leverage more iOS device management internally.""The configuration and pricing can be improved.""The solution can have some compliance problems in general and the end-point user can bypass easily the company policies in Intune.""Sometimes, customers compare it with AirWatch, but the concept of Intune is different from other solutions. It's an application management app. It gets a bit difficult to explain it to customers, but it's not a product limitation. It takes a presale document or presentation to explain it to customers."

More Microsoft Intune Cons →

"There's a lot of scope for enhancement on the DevSecOps side. They should definitely include features for compliance, for both the Linux and Windows side of the devices, as well as for network devices. Compliance is something they need to work on.""We would like Puppet to add more integration for applications.""Puppet Enterprise is more complex and difficult to configure.""Puppet Enterprise should improve the general extensibility for places where they can't install it.""At the beginning the initial setup was kind of complex.""It's a bit of a pain point to make sure that everything works once we've upgraded it because Puppet has been evolving pretty fast.""The solution has really complex code, you have to understand the Ruby language. However, once you know the code then you can move ahead without any problems."

More Puppet Enterprise Cons →

"The area which I feel can be improved is the custom modules. For example, there are something like 106 official modules available in the Ansible library. A year ago, that number was somewhere around 58. While Ansible is improving day by day, this can be improved more. For instance, when you need to configure in the cloud, you need to write up a module for that.""The solution should add a nice self-service portal.""When you set up Playbooks, I may have one version of the Playbook, but another member of the team may have a different vision, and we will not know which version is correct. We want to have one central repository for managing the different versions of Playbooks, so we can have better collaboration among team members. This is our use case for using Git version control.""It would be helpful to have templates for common configurations. It would make it much easier and faster rather than creating a whole script. The templates would decrease the learning curve as well.""For a couple of the API integrations, there has been a lack of documentation.""From Red Hat Insights point of view, the product is not on top as it is not responding as per the demand...Like on cloud platforms, you can see the main parts of Red Hat Insights, along with the inventory of all your apps. So, that is missing in Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform.""We are not using the Dashboard a lot because we have higher expectations from it. The default Dashboard from Tower doesn't give that much information. We really want to get down into more than if the job succeeded or what was the percentage of success. We want to get down to task-level success. If, in a job, there are ten tasks, we want to see this task was a success, and this was not, and how many were not. That's the kind of granularity we are looking for, that Tower does not give right now.""The solution is slightly expensive, and its pricing could be improved."

    Reviews from Real Users

Microsoft Intune stands out among its competitors for a number of reasons. Two major ones are its ability to secure all devices under its management and the flexibility that the solution offers its users.

A computing services manager notes, "Its security is most valuable. It gives us a way to secure devices, not only those that are steady. We do have a few tablets and other devices, and it is a way for us to secure these devices and manage them. We know they're out there and what's their status. We can manage their life cycle and verify that they're updated properly."

The head of IT engineering at a financial services company writes, "The one feature we find most useful is the Mobile Application Manager. There are two types: we have the complete MDM and the Mobile Application Manager (MAM). We don't give our users phones, it is their own personal phone, and we need to allow them to have access to the company details on their phone. We need to create a balance between their own personal data and the company data. We deploy the Mobile Application Manager for them so that we won't be able to interfere with their own personal data."

Puppet Data Center Automation helps sysadmins automate configuration and management of machines and the software running on them. With our software, businesses can make rapid, repeatable changes and automatically enforce the consistency of systems and devices, across physical and virtual machines, on prem or in the cloud.

    Reviews from Real Users

Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform is a highly effective solution that stands out when compared to many of its competitors. Two major advantages it offers are its automation manager and its comprehensive centralized GUI-based management interface.

MD J., a solution architect at STBL, says, “The automation manager is very good and makes things easier for customers with multi-cloud platforms.”

Aankit G., a Consultant at Pi DATACENTERS, writes, “We like the GUI-based interface for the tower. Before, we only had a command-line interface to run all the Ansible tasks. Now, the Ansible tower provides the complete GUI functionality to run, manage, and create the templates and the Ansible jobs. This includes the code and YAML file we can create. The GUI interface is the added advantage of this solution, including some integration with the different plugins.”
