We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

The most valuable feature is its upgradeability. The most valuable feature is test performance. It helps us store large amounts of data along with providing us faster retrieval of data.Running SAP on Pure Storage helps a lot without doing any further tuning to improve application performance. Our internal clients are happy. The stability is perfect. The reliability is 100% and the latency is always lower than 1 millisecond.Scalability is one of the best features. You can quickly add more. You can swap out the drives with larger sizes, you can add more shelves. All of that is perfect - the whole concept of keeping it modular...It is an easy to use product for all of my team members.Their support system has insight into errors on our SAN fabric that we can't see. They've brought attention to and raised awareness for us about things that we couldn't see, when we were experiencing problems. The simplicity of it. The performance is good, but the simplicity is the best thing. Storage management is quite complex, but Pure Storage is easy to manage.

It’s very good at IOPS.It is fast and reliable. There hasn’t been a single failure in three years of use.The Deduplication feature in VDI environments. If Tintri says we can host 3000 VMs in our storage, I know we can host 3000 VMs there. Believe the results.A very good support team that is available 24/7. They have real technical staff with strong knowledge.Web GUI for maintenance and resource monitoring purposes is easy to use.Upgrades are super easy and can be done during business hours without interruptions in production. Its speed has been absolutely fantastic. Its VM-aware features have been excellent to use and integrate with XenServer as well.

What it needs to do is work a little closer with solutions, like VMware, so it understands the particular workloads that are on it. Today, it does not understand the applications which are running against it.The technical support is okay, but could be improved.I would like to have support available in Spanish. The data reduction that we had initially anticipated when we bought Pure and we move over, is way lower than the expected reduction. It depends on the workloads, of course. But that has been a challenge at times.I would like to see data tiering to AWS.I would like to see the NAS add-on component become more fault-tolerant than just a single virtual machine running inside the array. I'm unwilling to use it for that reason.I would like some performance analytics which go deeper than today. It should be specific to some hosts and applications. This would be good. The higher education moves slowly. We are still looking forward to implementing the full list of existing features.

I would like it to have the ability to store data other than virtual machines. At the moment, you can only connect VMs to it, and that’s a bit disappointing. In sync and automated mirror between two Tintris is missing.I would love more insight into each virtual machine statistic. The Tintri Analytics site is excellent for long-term trending, but more data would be great. The product could be improved by adding iSCSI support. We have had to rethink how we implement some of our services due to this.I think with the world soon becoming only SSD, possibly NVMe, and 3D Xpoint. It would make sense for Tintri to drop the hybrid array down the line.

Pricing and Cost Advice
Pure Storage has not helped us to reduce our licensing costs.Pure Storage has not helped to reduce our HANA licensing costs. You get what you pay for. It is expensive, but it really works. In terms of other contemporary arrays, Pure is something you need to have a use case for, as it's not priced for you to buy one off-the-shelf. If you have a use case, heavy lift Oracle Databases, any type of noticeable virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), or need low latency and high throughput, you should consider all-flash at least and probably Pure Storage. In the beginning, we saw that the price is not very good. When we made some compilations about the deduplication and the compression and what the equipment does, including the differentiation of upper management of the storage, the price was not so bad. However, in the beginning, the price was very difficult to justify. For us, as the customer, it reduced the price of the management. The pricing of Pure Storage is all-inclusive. It is very fair, and very easy. In comparison, Dell EMC has licensing that needs to be added if you wan to work in a complex environment or in specific functionalities. We would like them to improve the pricing, so we could put them to use some more product, like backup or long-term storage. In the future, if the price goes down, then we could buy different types of products.

The area it needs to improve is the pricing. It could be better.Make sure that you have all licenses in one go. Options afterwards can cost extra. An "all-in-one" license model would be better at this price range.Ensure the storage system "natively" supports the protocols that you wish to use (i.e., CIFS) without the need for the overhead of internal "conversion VMs" that run the protocols.Tintri is reasonably priced for the solution you get. Advanced features do require extra to use.The licensing model is relatively simple. For things like replication, however, the licensing needs to be looked at.
