Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It's an excellent over-all tool for managers to analyze their business.""It provides us with proof of data, we can centralize all of the information, check it, and then provide the information to our users.""Data modeling is a valuable feature.""It is a robust system.""The security and audit procedures are the most valuable features.""Transformation is a valuable feature of SAP NetWeaver. I can transform the data as per my needs or my client's needs. For example, flat tables can be transformed with respect to our requirements to combine multiple modules into one single table, and we can derive analytics.""A robust and efficient product."

"The most valuable feature of Teradata is security. It runs on Unix and Linux platforms which provide better security.""Teradata features high productivity and reliability because it has several redundancy options, so the system is always up and running.""We did performance testing. We had a set of real life MicroStrategy reports. Our conditions were: Not allowed to redesign data model, not allowed to rewrite the queries, all queries should be generated by MicroStrategy, no aggregates. Teradata appeared to be way faster than a similarly configured (in terms of hardware) Oracle server.""There are several features of Teradata that I like. One of the most basic is the indexes. I also like that it provides lower TCO. It also has the optimizer feature which is a good feature and isn't found in other legacy systems. Parallelism is also another feature I like in Teradata because when you are running or hosting on multiple systems, you have this shared-nothing architecture that helps. Loading and unloading in Teradata are also really helpful compared to other systems.""When it comes to integration, tools like Informatica seamlessly connect with Teradata. We ensure the Teradata database is configured correctly in Informatica, including the proper hostname and properties for the load process. We didn't find any major complexity or issues with integration.""Building a data warehouse with Teradata has definitely helped a lot of our downstream applications to more easily access information.""Teradata can be easily used in ETL mode transformations, so there is no need for expensive and inconvenient ETL tools""Teradata's most valuable feature is that it's easy to use."

Cons
"Connectors are complex, and it is difficult to understand or know which connector should be used. For instance, if I want to connect APIs, I will not be able to do it directly. I would have to go to the portal integration to get the data. Therefore, having simplified connectors will make things much easier.""There are performance issues in terms of scalability and availability.""The product could provide more features.""It is difficult when your native language is not English. It is difficult for us to explain our issue and also difficult for the technical team to explain a resolution to us.""Design and modeling could be simplified.""The program is difficult to learn to use""I think more integration with other applications would be perfect."

More SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse Cons →

"The scalability could be better. The on-premises solution is always more complicated to scale.""It could use some more advanced analytics relating to structured and semi-structured data.""Teradata's UI could be more user-friendly.""Teradata could improve by being less complicated. There are some aspects that are not available on the Unix server and a Unix system is required to access some data, such as in case of an emergency.""The solution is stable. However, there are times when we are using large amounts of data and we can see some latency issues.""I think the UI is not there yet. It could be improved by being more user-friendly.""An additional feature I would you like to see included in the next release, is that it needs to be more cloud-friendly.""Limited interest and success in some areas make us hesitate about upgrading."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Pricing is based on the number of user IDs and tyhe user ID works across a suite of products."
  • "The licensing cost is high for SAP NetWeaver compared to that for other products."
  • "All SAP products are expensive."
  • More SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Teradata is not cheap, but you get what you pay for."
  • "Make sure you have the in-house skills to design and support the solution, as relying on external sources is extremely costly and tends to lock you into specific platforms, tools, and paradigms."
  • "In the past, it turned out that other solutions, in order to provide the full range of abilities that the Teradata platform provides plus the migration costs, would end up costing more than Teradata does."
  • "The initial cost may seem high, but the TCO is low."
  • "Teradata is currently making improvements in this area."
  • "It is still a very expensive solution. While I very much like the pure technological supremacy of the software itself, I believe Teradata as a company needs to become more affordable. They are already losing the market to more flexible or cheaper competitors."
  • "Teradata is expensive but gives value for money, especially if you don't want to move your data to the cloud."
  • "Price is quite high, so if it is really possible to use other solutions (e.g. you do not have strict requirements for performance and huge data volumes), it might be better to look at alternatives from the RDBMS world."
