We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Microsoft Sentinel provides the capability to integrate different log sources. On top of having several data connectors in place, you can also do integration with a threat intelligence platform to enhance and enrich the data that's available. You can collect as many logs and build all the use cases.""The most valuable feature is the onboarding of the workloads. You can see all that has been onboarded in your account on the dashboards.""We are able to deploy within half an hour and we only require one person to complete the implementation.""The solution offers a lot of data on events. It helps us create specific detection strategies.""One of the most valuable features of Microsoft Sentinel is that it's cloud-based.""I believe one of the main advantages is Microsoft Sentinel's seamless integration with other Microsoft products.""Sentinel uses Azure Logic Apps for automation, which is really powerful. This allows us to easily automate responses to incidents.""The standout feature of Sentinel is that, because it's cloud-based and because it's from Microsoft, it integrates really well with all the other Microsoft products. It's really simple to set up and get going."

"It gives you the ability to bring data into the system. The workflows are out of the box, and it gives you the ability to auto-assign the incidents based on criteria and vulnerabilities.""Reduces time to closure and closure metrics for vulnerabilities.""The product has a very simple UI.""The solution is available over the cloud and is easy to manage.""ServiceNow Security Operations also takes care of GRC, governance, risk and compliance, enabling it to provide risk assessment.""The ease of use is great.""It's stable.""What I found most valuable in ServiceNow Security Operations is that it's very useful for any incoming vulnerability. For example, if my team finds any vulnerability on servers such as the CA and CMDB integrated with ServiceNow Security Operations, my team can make some changes. My team can map the vulnerabilities found on the CA server, make the changes required, and resolve the vulnerabilities before the system is attacked. You can avoid vulnerability attacks through ServiceNow Security Operations, so this is the best feature of the solution. ServiceNow Security Operations is beneficial mainly for vulnerability response and engagement purposes."

"The most valuable features are ease of use and the ability to customize it.""It's a solid platform and is stable enough. It is not complicated and is easy to use.""The product automatically generated a threat score based on the maliciousness of an IP.""ThreatConnect has a highly user-friendly interface."

Cons
"They're giving us the queries so we can plug them right into Sentinel. They need to have a streamlined process for updating them in the tool and knowing when things are updated and knowing when there are new detections available from Microsoft.""The AI capabilities must be improved.""The built-in SOAR is not really good out-of-the-box. The SOAR relies on logic apps and you almost need to have some kind of developer background to be able to make these logic apps. Most security people cannot develop anything...""The solution could be more user-friendly; some query languages are required to operate it.""If you're looking to use canned queries, the interface could be a little more straightforward. It's not immediately intuitive regarding how you use it. You have to take a canned query and paste it into an operational box and then you hit a button... They could improve the ease of deploying these queries.""Microsoft Sentinel is relatively expensive, and its cost should be improved.""The KQL query does not function effectively with Windows 11 machines, and in the majority of machine-based investigations, KQL queries are essential for organizing the data during investigations.""They can work on the EDR side of things... Every time we need to onboard these kinds of machines into the EDR, we need to do it with the help of Intune, to sync up the devices, and do the configuration. I'm looking for something on the EDR side that will reduce this kind of work."

More Microsoft Sentinel Cons →

"Process framework and best practices for ease of integration between IT and security teams via incident, problem, and change.""There are limitations for the third-parties that are providing the inputs. They should increase the robustness of the solution.""In future releases, I would like to add a follow-up and reminder feature. For the tickets in our queue, we could set reminders. This would help us prioritize older tickets before moving on to new ones.""The solution needs to make customization easier. You cannot do much customization immediately. It requires an extensive workload. If the customization process was user-friendly, it would be much better.""The threat intelligence module needs a better dashboard.""It is challenging for the customers to understand the processes for SecOps. It needs to be simplified.""It doesn't interact with things very well.""They should stick to the roadmap and continue to build plugins and integrations with other third parties, enhance the UI, and enhance the reporting. It's all good. They should just continue enhancing the releases."

More ServiceNow Security Operations Cons →

"Integration is an area that could use some improvement.""It would be good to have more feeds and more integrated sources for enrichment.""They should make it a little bit easier to generate events and share them with the community""I couldn’t get any training videos online when I was working with the tool."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It comes with a Microsoft subscription which the customer has, so they don't have to invest somewhere else."
  • "It is a consumption-based license model. bands at 100, 200, 400 GB per day etc. Azure Sentinel Pricing | Microsoft Azure"
  • "Good monthly operational cost model for the detection and response outcomes delivered, M365 logs don't count toward the limits which is a good benefit."
  • "I have had mixed feedback. At one point, I heard a client say that it sometimes seems more expensive. Most of the clients are on Office 365 or M365, and they are forced to take Azure SIEM because of the integration."
  • "It is kind of like a sliding scale. There are different tiers of pricing that go from $100 per day up to $3,500 per day. So, it just kind of depends on how much data is being stored. There can be additional costs to the standard license other than the additional data. It just kind of depends on what other services you're spinning up in Azure, or if you're using something like Azure log analytics."
  • "I am just paying for the log space with Azure Sentinel. It costs us about $2,000 a month. Most of the logs are free. We are only paying money for Azure Firewall logs because email logs or Azure AD logs are free to use for us."
  • "Sentinel is a bit expensive. If you can figure a way of configuring it to meet your needs, then you can find a way around the cost."
  • "Azure Sentinel is very costly, or at least it appears to be very costly. The costs vary based on your ingestion and your retention charges."

  • "This product is a good value for the money."
  • "If you're going to implement it on your own, there would be internal costs. If you're going to implement it through a contractor or consultant, you have to pay for that."
  • "The solution is more expensive than BMC Remedy, the other ITSM tool available in the market."

  • "The price of this product is in the mid-range, not too expensive, nor inexpensive."
