Pros
"F5 Shape Security's most valuable feature is performance.""The most valuable feature of the solution is the ease of configuration."

"The user interface, the portal, is very helpful in describing what attributes of concern are associated with the device.""The solution is stable.""It is a stable solution.""There is excellent documentation available.""The most valuable thing is about the IP. They have a database of malicious IP addresses against which they check. They have a huge database for routed devices and the devices that have been used in the past to commit fraud. They have extensive historical records of all of that information, and that's probably the most valuable thing about ThreatMetrix. Over the years, they have been collecting and persisting globally across all the banking and financial services. They have been storing all this information. It is this stored information that I and my team find valuable; it is not so much their technology. If you are running it on a simulator and trying to maliciously clone and copy IP addresses and stuff like that, they have a bunch of technologies, like routes section and all the other stuff. It is just that they have something that no one else can deal with, that is, massive amounts of big data about the malicious IP addresses, malicious device fingerprinting, the fingerprinting router devices, and the fingerprints. You can query against this stored information to find out whether your app is in a good, nice environment. If yes, you get a green light. The last time I checked, there were about 400 or 500 features that they can stack against, which is pretty extensive. They give you a score against all those features for every application that you installed on it. It is pretty good in that sense.""Accessible custom rules with a monthly update on performance.""The most valuable feature the solution has is that it is able to do a fairly accurate fraud assessment of a credit card transaction based on a variety of parameters configured by the merchant."

Cons
"I want the solution's custom exclusion rules to be more granular.""The tool's price is high."

More F5 Shape Security Cons →

"Could be more intuitive and user friendly.""It would be useful if they could offer real-time processing.""The interface does look a bit outdated.""We are only using one feature. We haven't found the other features to be very good or very powerful.""One limitation is it only maintains six months' worth of data. It would be nice if it went back even further to help us really identify and flush out patterns that go on longer.""SDK is probably where the biggest issue is. The SDK configuration is a bit lacking. If you are integrating it into your workflow, it is very cumbersome and very difficult to integrate. You have to understand and be an expert in low-level mobile applications to integrate this stuff. Integration should be easy based on what they are providing, but unfortunately, it is not. It is very difficult. My work has been trying to simplify the integration process because integrations bring a lot of value. Most companies don't see their value because it is such a difficult process. For integration, you have to get it right as well, but it is very difficult to get it right because they don't help you in tuning your future parameters. Because of this, it is very difficult to tune your future parameters and your risk score. If you are Uber, your risk score will be very different from a banking client that is pushing funds. These two things need to be improved for me. The rest is pretty good.""We encountered a few issues with API calls to the solution."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The solution is moderately priced."
  • More F5 Shape Security Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "I am not aware of the price. I have always come in after it has been negotiated. The clients do get a return on their investment. It mitigated a massive DDoS, and it definitely detects fraudulent activities on banking platforms. They have definitely got their ROI back because there is continued investment in ThreatMetrix over time."

    Overview

The Shape technology platform, covered by 50+ patents, stops automated fraud and other attacks on web and mobile applications, including credential stuffing, account takeover, scraping, and unauthorized aggregation. Shape is one of the largest processors of login traffic in the world, protects more than 1.3 billion user accounts, and prevented more than $1 billion in fraud losses last year.

Shape solutions leverage artificial intelligence and machine learning, among other technologies, to accurately determine in real-time if an application request is from a fraudulent source, and if so, effectively mitigate. As soon as new countermeasures are deployed, 5%-10% of attackers will typically attempt to retool and start a new attack. Shape solutions adapt and maintain full efficacy even as attackers evolve.

The world's leading banks, airlines, retailers, hotel chains, and federal agencies rely on Shape as their primary line of defense against sophisticated cybercrime.

    Shape Solutions:

Shape Recognize: Identify returning, known users of your website and reduce authentication friction for these users. This enables organizations using Recognize a persistent and secure login experience where good users face less login challenges while still increasing online safety.

Shape AI Fraud Engine (SAFE): SAFE connects context across different browsers and devices used by the same user, as well as observations from across Shape’s entire network. This allows Shape's AI engine to drive down fraud each month as its engine consumes more data.

F5 Device ID+: A real-time and precise device identifier using advanced signal collection and machine learning to assign a unique fingerprint to each device visiting your site. Simple deployment with immediate results for security, networking, and fraud. Better understand the unique devices visiting your applications.

Shape Enterprise Defense: Invisibly protect every application from attack, fraud, and abuse. Defending the world's largest companies, Shape knows whether a request is bot or human driven and if the intent is malicious or benign. This allows Shape to prevent fraud in real-time; manage aggregated and partner access to applications and provide new data for better customer insights.

Shape was recognized by Cybercrime Magazine as one of the Hot 150 Cybersecurity companies in 2019 and CB Insights 2019 AI 100 most promising artificial intelligence startups across the globe.

ThreatMetrix Digital Identity Network constantly identifies fraudsters from trusted customers by analyzing more than 850 transactions each second of every day. It defends against data breach and credential testing from bots designed to mimic human behavior and evade detection by web application firewalls and integrates fraud and risk data across the enterprise with behavioral information on more than 1.4 billion digital identities for smarter, faster and better risk decisioning.
