We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Scripting is the most valuable. We are able to record and then go in and modify the script that it creates. It has a lot of generative scripts.""The feature I like most is the ease of reporting.""The ability to develop scripts in Visual Studio, Visual Studio integration, is the most valuable feature.""The scalability of the solution is quite good. You can easily expand the product if you need to.""A good automation tool that supports SAP functional testing.""The statistics that are available are very good.""The major thing it has helped with is to reduce the workload on testing activities."

"Software testing tool that has multiple features. It's good to use for SAP testing, and it helps reduce test execution time.""It's been very helpful to have connectivity with mobile. The tool also identifies some of the actual changes from the recordings on the actual testing suite. That is something that I really like.""We like the fact that it works across mobile, desktop, web, and APIs. Due to this, the solution has a broad range of applications.""The technical support is good, we were satisfied.""The solution has plenty of features compared to other solutions.""The feature that I have found the most valuable is the recovery and cleanup process. Suppose there is a list of test cases and one test case has failed, it should not impact the other test cases. We can reuse the same test case. We can change the configuration of parameters and then use the test cases on the same thing. So, that's a useful thing. Otherwise, we have to use the cleanup process. Another useful feature is to have our own library files. We can create our objects in the libraries and reuse them. There is no need to create duplicate data for that. They have been giving some enhancements recently which means integration is also there. They've integrated with different software like Jenkins, Bamboo. So, we can also create pipeline points. They have recently given SAP and everything, which is very useful.""The most valuable feature of Tricentis Tosca is the Tosca Commander. Functionality is another thing I find most valuable in the solution.""The item that is different from all the other tools is that it's module based."

Cons
"Could be more user-friendly on the installation and configuration side.""We moved to Ranorex because the solution did not easily scale, and we could not find good and short term third-party help. We needed to have a bigger pool of third-party contractors that we could draw on for specific implementations. Silk didn't have that, and we found what we needed for Ranorex here in the Houston area. It would be good if there is more community support. I don't know if Silk runs a user conference once a year and how they set up partners. We need to be able to talk to somebody more than just on the phone. It really comes right down to that. The generated automated script was highly dependent upon screen position and other keys that were not as robust as we wanted. We found the automated script generated by Ranorex and the other key information about a specific data point to be more robust. It handled the transition better when we moved from computer to computer and from one size of the application to the other size. When we restarted Silk, we typically had to recalibrate screen elements within the script. Ranorex also has some of these same issues, but when we restart, it typically is faster, which is important.""Everything is very manual. It's up to us to find out exactly what the issues are.""The support for automation with iOS applications can be better.""The pricing is an issue, the program is very expensive. That is something that can improve.""The solution has a lack of compatibility with newer technologies.""They should extend some of the functions that are a bit clunky and improve the integration."

More OpenText Silk Test Cons →

"There have been some setbacks because of upgrades. While Tosca has been around for a while, Tricentis has catered to smaller clients and I don't think they have done such a large, at-scale transition or transformation before or worked with a company like ours, which is doing an enterprise-wide transformation. When we go to their customer advisory-board meetings, upgrades have been an issue. They have been working a lot to make upgrades seamless.""Tricentis Tosca currently does not support any mobile testing and can be improved.""The user management could improve in Tricentis Tosca because it is confusing. It would be better to have it in one place. Having to add it to the cloud and to a specific project can be a mess.""What needs to be improved in Tricentis Tosca is its centralized repository mechanism because it's not as flexible. The repository in the solution where you store the data and the script for test automation is quite an old-fashioned mechanism that could be improved.""They need to improve on the reports after the execution of automation tests, since all the current organizations are looking for detailed graphical reports.""More and more artificial intelligence (AI) is coming in. So, some amount of AI to create natural language processing (NLP)-based test cases and manage defects would be very helpful. This is because the technologies have evolved in the last five to six months, so there is a potential opportunity there.""I think the downside would be licensing costs which are very high.""ScratchBook execution needs to be improved as Tosca crashes multiple times."
