Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Pure gives us better compression, it's easier to manage, a lot less hands-on.""The connections are a lot faster than what we had in the past. One InfiniBand does what we did on all of our Fibre Channels.""It is fast and reliable. It works.""It's easy to use, and the maintenance upgrades to get free controllers work really well.""Performance is the most valuable feature.""NVMe data storage platform that's easy to set up and easy to use. It's stable, with a lower response time, and quick technical support.""We've been using FlashArray's snapshot for backups. Their replication across sites and response time are also excellent.""Provides fast access and is user-friendly."

"The initial setup is straightforward.""It's very fast. We were seeing read latencies of less than one millisecond. It is robust.""It performed great originally, and when it performed great, it was awesome.""EasyTier/hotcaching: Valuable because it allows greater performance than standard SAS disks""Data Compression: Up to 80% space reduction in the database""It has reduced our electricity usage by reducing the amount of disks needed for the virtual environment.""High performance and ease-of-management are the most valuable features.""It provides a combination of all the protocols that you need, without losing deduplication and compression."

More DDN IntelliFlash Pros →

"The scalability and being able to implement it quickly.""Overall performance of the solution.""Individual settings you can put on each individual volume, if you want to do that.""Being able to provide quality of service as promised.""I would say in terms of architecture and in terms of functionality, the product is quite good.""We can just buy them, scale them as we need on demand, and we don't have to spend so many front end cycles on designing the architecture.""Templates are already predefined for it. If you're coding it up, it will take two days. You can pick up a template right there from the API, and it just works for you. Implementation done in 10 minutes.""If you buy the solution for its specific purpose it will work well."

Cons
"We did have one hiccup with the integration of vCenter. When we were installing Pure Storage, we were using vCenter 6.7, which defaults to the HTML5 Web Client. The current plugin for Pure Storage doesn't show up in that client at all. You have to go and use the legacy FlexFlash client to see the Pure Storage plugin in vCenter.""It took us a year to get it to stabilize and to get the best out of Pure.""The GUI is simplistic and basic. I feel like it's explanatory, but not enough, it needs a little more to it.""Historical analytics would be useful. At the moment, they don't have any type of application built for historical analytics.""I would like a feature to integrate with external or cloud solutions. For example, if I want to use this storage for a backup from the cloud, I want to have integration with the cloud vendors, such as Microsoft, Oracles, or Amazon. It could be available as an API to allow seamless integration. Additionally, the solution could improve by having native integration with a cloud provider, such as VMware or Microsoft, this would reduce the need to use third-party solutions to complete the task.""I would like to see them develop the ability to integrate with more AWS services. There are increasingly more and more services coming out from AWS but there are also certain constraints where we can't move everything over to a cloud as well. We would like for things that are on-premise to be easily integrated with AWS.""It was not proactive communication.""I feel like there is too much automation; the user doesn't have any manual input."

More Pure Storage FlashArray Cons →

"In the proxy section you can’t choose a user account and password, so it is not allowed at the moment to go out, if customer has such constellation.""Technical support is bad. It'd grade them at 30% or 40%. The response time is terrible.""Snapshots are not as easy to access as on a NetApp device.""It's somewhat scalable, but maybe not so much as some of the competition.""Performance is horrible now. Our original intent was to buy new storage in about two years. But since it became a critical urgency for us, we decided to purchase a new one in two or three months.""We had just one small stability problem with power flapping and it did not start up again automatically. We had to access service ports and manually restart the storage processors.""It only keeps one hour of real-time data without the ability to do deep analysis of each element.""They need to offer better integration for a virtual platform to enable you to create hyper-converged solution."

More DDN IntelliFlash Cons →

"We have a large fiber channel infrastructure, and that's one area that we haven't seen implemented in SolidFire, its more iSCSI.""For example, the ease of use with the reporting. Right now it's not impossible, but you have to know Sequel. It's a little time consuming to get those customized reports in there.""Though it is a stable solution, its users may face some security issues at times...The security provided by the solution is one area that can be improved.""We are looking for, potentially, on the Active IQ reporting side, to do reporting based on the datastore. Right now, I can report on the whole SolidFire, or I can report on just a certain datastore or a volume. I'd like to take all of my VDI infrastructure, which as an example would be multiple datastores.""The technical support is really bad and has to be improved.""So feature-wise, I would say more reporting tools that could be merged into it.""It would be good to provide administrative access at the root level to be able to do things with the system, if need be.""The upgrade process could be better."

    Overview

Pure Storage FlashArray is the world’s first enterprise-class storage array that runs exclusively on the nonvolatile memory express (NVMe) protocol for memory access and storage. It represents a totally state-of-the-art type of storage technology. It offers users shared accelerated storage that delivers cutting-edge features in the realms of performance, simplicity, and consolidation. Pure Storage is fresh and modern today and will be for the next decade. Without forklift upgrades or planned downtime, Pure Storage takes the work out of storage ownership and delivers unprecedented customer satisfaction.

Pure Storage FlashArray is built with simplicity and reliability in mind. The solution can be implemented and optimized in hours, as opposed to other similar solutions that can take days. It has no moving parts, which removes areas where it could potentially be vulnerable to suffering errors. It is highly stable and gives users the ability to manage system shutdowns in a way that  prevents data loss.

    Benefits of Pure Storage FlashArray

Some of the benefits of using Pure Storage FlashArray include:

    • A much higher level of speed than similar pieces of technology. Pure Storage FlashArray maximizes the speed at which data can be transferred while at the same time minimizing system latencies that might slow the transfer down. Additionally, it offers users quick memory read and data access speeds.

    • A higher bang for your buck in terms of the storage capabilities you get for the money you pay. They are smaller in size than more standard storage technologies, but they offer flash memory, which enables users to store larger amounts of data than the current standard.

    Reviews from Real Users

Pure Storage FlashArray is a highly effective piece of storage technology which stands out among its competitors for a number of reasons. Two major ones are its overall robustness and the value that it offers by way of its reliability and ease of use. It provides users with many valuable features that allow them to maximize what they can do with this solution. Pure Storage FlashArray’s reliability and ease of use make it a highly valuable solution.

PeerSpot user Prabakaran K., a technical consultant at Injazat Data Systems, notes the robustness of this solution when he writes, "FlashArray has many valuable features. It's very user-friendly and it has high availability, so there is comparatively less downtime. During maintenance, there is no shutdown procedure, so you can directly power off the Array and manage the shutdown process without any data loss, which is a unique feature. Managing replication and data migration is also very easy."

PeerSpot user Jason D., a cloud solutions architect at a tech services company, notes three features that make this solution valuable when he writes, "We've had different types of storage, and three things of this solution are valuable. The first one is its outstanding performance. The second one is its stability. In the about three years that we've had it, we've had component failures, but we never had a service interruption or any data loss. The third one, which is really critical, is that it is super easy to use in terms of provisioning, storage, and managing the arrays. I'm able to maintain a multi-site environment with a couple of dozen arrays with a single mid-level storage admin."

Western Digital through its IntelliFlash arrays delivers high-performance storage with a complete range of features and connectivity options, including inline compression and deduplication, application and VM consistent snapshots, replication, RAID, data encryption, VMware vCenter integration, and multi-protocol support for SAN (FC, iSCSI) and NAS (NFS, SMBv3). IntelliFlash arrays deliver high availability through dualredundant and hot-swappable components, active/active or active/passive controllers, non-disruptive software upgrades, eMLC flash, and proactive cloud-based monitoring, analytics, and intelligence. A RESTful API provides scripted or programmatic control.

SolidFire delivers all five core elements needed to deliver newfound storage agility to your next generation data center and beyond. With SolidFire you can deploy new applications and capabilities faster, provide more agile and scalable infrastructure, increase application performance and predictability, enable automation and end-user self-service and raise operational efficiency and reduce cost.
