Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"You can purchase switches and you don't need to do anything with them. You just put in the firewall and the switches get all the policies and rules that you already have in the firewall. With Fortinet, you just connect the FortiSwitch to the Fortinet and that's it.""Fortigate's most valuable feature is that it doesn't need a push policy when writing rules.""Fortinet FortiGate is easy to use.""Fortinet FortiGate is user-friendly and affordable.""Their proxy-based inspection is responsive and secure.""The most valuable features of Fortinet FortiGate are the ease of use and the UI. It has always provided me with what I needed. I have no need for additional costs that other solutions have, such as Sophos.""The dashboard I have found the most valuable in Fortinet FortiGate.""Initial setup is easy to configure."

"Most of the features are useful. It is easy to configure and easy to troubleshoot. I can see the utilization of different networks, and there are also App control features.""The features that we have found most valuable in SonicWall TZ are the intrusion and brute force attack prevention.""The most valuable feature of SonicWall TZ is the double authentication, where it asks for one password and again asks for a four-digit code, which changes every 30 seconds.""We are very much happy with the support.""It is very stable with no issues. The firewall's been up for the past 35 days non-stop. It's performed great. It has performed as it should perform.""The product is easy to deploy.""The stability is very nice.""The solution boasts good performance and is easy to use."

"Our organization's main concern is stability, and this is a stable solution.""Easily manageable in a variety of environments.""A very robust product.""Ease of use is the best feature of the product.""The solution has improved my organization because I can see what traffic is happening and I can use it to block and prevent attacks.""It's an easy, straightforward management platform to use.""I can see what traffic is going on. I can easily block any programs from attacks.""The scalability of the solution is good."

Cons
"They sometimes hide some features and if you want to enable them, you have to go in the CLI, enable the feature and configure it through the CLI. Customers, typically, like everything to be done by the GUI.""Fortinet FortiGate could improve if it had a cloud-managed solution.""We had a minor problem where there was a major system upgrade on the hardware platfrom and the Mac client was not available as soon as it might have been. The PC client was available immediately, but we had to wait a month or so, before there was a mac client. I was slightly irritated that it was not ready on time, but it was eventually resolved.""From a reporting perspective, there's room for improvement. They're providing FortiAnalyzer through which one can get some enhancements, but the visibility and reporting still need slight improvement.""Fortinet Fortigate could benefit by simplifying some of their processes.""Fortinet FortiGate should improve the VPN tokens.""They can do more tests before they release new versions because I would like to be more assured. We had some experiences where they release something new and great, but some of the old features are disabled or they don't work well, which impacts the product satisfaction. The manufacturer should be able to prove that everything works or not only that it might work. This is applicable to most of the other services, software, and hardware companies. They all should work on this. We cannot trust every new release, such as a beta release, on the first day. We wait for some comments on the forums and from other companies that we know. We always wait a few weeks before we use the updated version. They should also extend the VPN client application, especially for Linux versions. Currently, it has an application for Linux devices, but it doesn't work the way we want to connect to the VPN. They use only the old connection, not the new one. They have VPN client applications for Windows and Mac, but they can add more useful features to better manage the devices and monitor the current health of each device. Such features would be helpful for our company.""A couple of things I've seen that need improvement, especially in terms of a hard coding. The driver-level active moment really is out-of-the-box and we have to have contact the customer support and sometimes it is difficult to resolve."

More Fortinet FortiGate Cons →

"The technology in this particular version is very old.""The monitoring is a little bit confusing.""There is a point I don't like about SonicWall in the past and now. Most of the destinations we look at when we're detecting some user using too much bandwidth or something like that, SonicWall just gave us destination IP address, instead of the full qualified domain name. I think that's the most important part that is still missing. I think that's the most important for us.""Sometimes there is a glitch between the network connection. Last time, something happened on our IP phone, the SonicWall team did some updates to fix the issue. However, glitches happen very rarely. I did not experience any other types of problems.""We encounter issues while generating new reports.""The small business line has less PPS throughput.""It could be made more user friendly.""The technical support has room for improvement."

More SonicWall TZ Cons →

"The product must improve its pricing.""The filtering configuration could be better. We have some difficulties with the filtering configuration and the filter extension. It's not that easy. It's not that straightforward. In the next release, I would like to see a reporting system. Stormshield doesn't have any tutorials on how to do the configuration and things like that. They just have documentation on the website. If you want to configure, for example, Cisco or Fortinet, you can find tutorials on YouTube. They show you how to configure the features, and so on. In Stormshield, there is nothing on social media or the internet on how to configure different things. The lack of documentation or the lack of material makes it difficult for others to adopt this solution.""A more user-friendly interface would be helpful.""This is not a next-generation firewall.""The biggest issue was their support department was not able to help us, then everything stops. This is a no-go area for me.""The SD card could be more secure.""It could be better if it were more user-friendly. It's too complicated for us to use it. The price could be better as well.""Improvement is needed in terms of the technical support of the manufacturer."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Fortinet has one or two license types, and the VPN numbers are only limited by the hardware chassis make."

  • "Go for long term pricing negotiated at the time of purchase."
  • "Work through partners for the best pricing."
  • "The value is the capability of having multiple services with one unique license, not having the limitation per user licensing schema, like other vendors."

  • "We saved a bundle by not needing all the past appliances from an NGFW."

  • "The pricing was a factor for us, and we felt that the price was good."
  • "The product pricing is relatively good, compared to other products, including the licenses."
