Pros | |
The most valuable features of this solution are the fast insert and fuzzy logic matching. Built in reports show package execution and messages. Logging can also be customized so only what is needed is logged. There is also an excellent logging replacement called BiXpress that provides both historical and real-time monitoring which is more efficient and much more robust than the built-in logging capabilities. And none of this requires custom coding to make it useful unlike many other ETL tools. This solution is easy to implement, has a wide variety of connectors, has support for Visual Basic, and supports the C language. The initial setup of this solution is very straightforward. The setup is straightforward. It's very easy to install. With this solution, there is the potential to expand, so that you can immediately write code onto the SQL server. The workflow features have been very valuable. You can have automated workflows and all the steps are controlled. The workflow functionality of integration services is excellent. It has a drag and drop feature that makes it easy to use. It has a good user experience because it takes into account your most-used tools and they're lined up nicely so you can just drag and drop without looking too far. It also integrates nicely with Microsoft. | We used it pretty heavily in gathering data, which goes to our VPs. They are able to base their next revenue planning based on this metric. So, it has been invaluable. The ability to connect to many different data sources is one of the key features. The other would then be the different ways in which that data can be visualized. |
Cons | |
Generic processes should be used instead of custom code for each table. You have to write push down join & lookup SQL to the database yourself via stored procedures or use of the SQL Task to get very high performance. That said, this is a common complaint for nearly all ETL tools on the market and those that offer an alternative such as Informatica offer them at a very expensive add-on price. Tuning using this solution requires extensive expertise to improve performance. The performance of this solution is not as good as other tools in the market. Video training would be a helpful addition. The solution should work on the GPU, graphical processing unit. There should also be piping integration available. It needs more integration tools, so you can connect to different sources. There were some issues when we tried to connect it to data storage. It was a connection issue. | We would like an easier way to get the product to the cloud. Right now, we have the on-premise version, and we would like to find a way to make it easier to migrate it over to the cloud. I would like more easy-to-implement analytical algorithms. At the moment they include things like forecasts and regressions. They need to add a lot more of these types of things to the product because not everyone is a data scientist. |
Pricing and Cost Advice | |
t's incredibly cost effective, easy to learn the basics quickly (although like all ETL tools requires the traditional learning curve to get good at) and has an immense user base. This solution is included with the MSSQL server package. My advice is to look at what your configuration will be because most companies have their own deals with Microsoft. This solution has provided an inexpensive tool, and it is easy to find experienced developers. | Information Not Available |
