We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
The dashboard, management section, and reporting are good. The dashboard, management section, and reporting are good.We work in the banking field. We deploy data loss prevention. Our branch protects our clients' data, credit card numbers, account numbers, and other confidential and sensitive data.We find the product is easy to manage and maintain. The data matching features are the most valuable due to the easy policy setup and implementation. The most valuable feature of this solution is endpoint security.I'm able to track everyone who is trying to send information outside the environment and to know if they are not supposed to be sending it. I'm also able to see the people who are accessing or maybe try to access the information they are not supposed to be accessing based on their level of classification. It gives me overall control of who has got access to what and at what point. And who can do what with specific information. The features I like most about this solution is the endpoint modules because it gives us the protection we need.

There are no issues with the interface. The interface and dashboard are okay. The most values feature of this solution are the micro DLP features.Trend Micro has improved my client's organization by recovering malware disabled network adaptors from servers. We find the malware scanning and intrusion detection most valuable for our server management requirements. We can find out who is on our servers and what they have done.We are able to check the log and keep records.

Cons
There are some features that are not available which are required by every data loss prevention solution. It is very difficult to log in to create a support ticket because no one is available to support our queries.I would like for the administrator management interface to improve. It's kind of old and slow. Updating it would make this solution better. We're not sure if there was an issue or a bug on the system recently because as of right now if someone sends out a compressed encrypted file, the DLP won't scan it.The enforce service is difficult to understand, and free courses made available on the internet would be useful. This product is very powerful but it is very complex, so making it simpler to use would be an improvement. In a majority of cases, most of the companies are using DLP for endpoint sessions, where you have a user that might be communicating information outside of the company. However, they forget there are actual interfaces that can directly communicate with either the database or other files within the data center that uses end-to-end encryption. In those cases, you might need things like your DLP to be able to monitor and block some of that. The solution needs to catch information communicated through the data center on the server-side.I do have a problem with the database.

Most of the functions don't work in the way that they are supposed to.It's hard for me to answer any questions about missing features. It's the outside companies who support us that manage this DLP solution at this moment.Being able to specify an agent list, or client list, to allow support from outside of the organization, would be of benefit to this solution.Trend Micro could be priced better, currently, it's a bit high. And there needs to be better after the sale, technical support.I would like to provide improved network direction in order to regulate all of the user agents. We only use Trend Micro Data Loss Prevention to manage various threats and malicious user agents currently.Needs a remote login option.

Pricing and Cost Advice
Pricing is reasonable. The pricing is reasonable. In terms of pricing, Symantec DLP works with Oracle Database. Oracle Database licensing is much more expensive than other databases. That might be a drawback for customers. The pricing is on a yearly subscription basis. We are happy with the pricing and licencing. The pricing is competitive and not pricey. We also receive corporate discounts. The pricing and licensing are based on per user endpoints. From what I know the pricing is good, it's not too expensive. If you negotiate you can get a good price.

More Symantec Data Loss Prevention Pricing and Cost Advice »

It's relatively cheap so the pricing is okay. The licensing and pricing of Trend Micro are comparatively low and competitive since they are offered in a bundle, especially compared to Symantec, which was has a relatively high price.

Overview

Keeping sensitive corporate information safe and compliant has never been easy. But today, you’re faced with a totally new set of data protection challenges. Sensitive information is leaving the safety of your corporate network as more employees share files over consumer cloud storage services and access those files on their own mobile devices. The number of targeted cyber attacks continues to grow, as cybercriminals develop effective new methods for defeating traditional security measures and stealing corporate information. And as all of these factors converge, it becomes increasingly difficult to manage corporate information and protect it against loss and theft.

Symantec Data Loss Prevention (DLP) provides a comprehensive approach to information protection that embraces today’s cloud- and mobile-centered realities. With DLP, you can:

• Discover where data is stored across all of your cloud, mobile, network, endpoint, and storage systems

• Monitor how data is being used, whether your employees are on or off the network

• Protect data from being leaked or stolen—no matter where it’s stored or how it’s used

Now more than ever, your data is on the move—whether it’s on a laptop, flash drive, or moving across physical, virtual, and cloud infrastructures. At any point along the way, your financial data, customer information, intellectual property, or trade secrets could be lost or stolen. Securing this data is further complicated by several growing risk factors:

Rapidly evolving compliance regulations and mandates, including GDPR
Continued growth of workforce mobility
Employees using their own mobile devices and consumer apps for work
Rising frequency of advanced persistent threats (APTs) and data breach incidents

To avoid the embarrassment, reputation damage, regulatory fines, and revenue loss, today’s enterprise must be able to identify, track, and secure all confidential data from multiple points within the organisation and in the cloud without impacting employee productivity and performance. In the past, many organisations tried traditional data loss prevention (DLP) solutions but found they were too intrusive, too complex to manage, and too costly to acquire, deploy, and maintain.
