We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The features that we like the most are the developer interface and the ability to quickly develop and deploy tests.""DAI's newest release allows us to test via scripts rather than models, because we have done 95 percent of our development in functional, not through modeling. I am really happy that then we can use the controller to run scripts rather than having to translate things to models. There are lots of options.""The most valuable features would be the image recognition and the OCR.""We did see a massive return on investment from using Eggplant.""The most valuable features of Eggplant Digital Automation Intelligence are bug hunting and OCR technology.""Its scalability is good. It is useful for desktop applications, and it also uses OCR and does image recognition.""It provides very strong cross-platform support.""GUI testing is the strength of the tool. The tool works as expected, and the support response from eggPlant, as a company, has been quick and substantial."

"This solution is very easy to learn and any non-programmer or manual tester, with little experience in automation, can pick it up quite easily.""It's stable and reliable.""The most valuable features of Tricentis Tosca are all the test automation functionality. It is a full-scale automation tool.""The product enables codeless automation.""It is easy to maintain and easy to automate. No coding skills are required to automate. It is also easy in terms of transferring knowledge and skills. Many of my team members shifted over the past one and a half years, and there was no big issue with respect to knowledge sharing. It is a good tool that enables me to re-automate my scripts and update my scripts as quickly as possible. Looking at the amount of rework and maintenance activity that we had done for our scripts, it might have been a nightmare with some other scripting tool.""We can also create customized functions. For example, if something isn't supported in Tricentis Tosca Commander, we can create our own function to integrate it with Tosca Commander, so we can utilize it and integrate with the macros.""It has helped teams within our organization become more aware of the testing requirements in terms of risk and priority.""The most valuable features of Tricentis Tosca are the ease of use, you do not need to program if you do not want to."

Cons
"The solution would crash from time to time.""The IDE could be even more full-featured. Because I was a developer, I was very spoiled by either Visual Studio Code or Visual Studio for shortcuts. For example, I was able to say "ctor" and hit Tab and it would create a template of a constructor for me... It would be great, when I want to create a new function, if there were shortcut commands like those that helped create all of the functions, or if there were shortcut features to do any of the complex plans.""Eggplant Test should emphasize on improving its offering in non-Windows environments.""The reporting function is a bit shallow. The solution does not offer very comprehensive reporting in terms of your test results. The reporting time and the logs are very high level as well. These areas need improvement.""A step forward would be to have event support, because it is more or less linear at the moment.""In terms of additional features, it would be helpful to have one package for all testing. You have the manager, the AI, then you have functional, and about 10 different packages for installing.""If one area could be improved, it would be some of their documentation. In particular, some of their online help and user support documentation is a little bit out of date and could be revised and updated on a more frequent basis. Other than that, I haven't really found any issues or problems.""I would like to see standardized actions already built into Eggplant. For example, "wait eight seconds". That way, I wouldn't need to create it as an action. Right now, I have to program that wait and describe it as an action so that everybody knows it is an action that waits eight seconds... That way, somebody who is not familiar with programming processes like "if-else", or "for", or "while", would be able, from the first moment, and without programming, to put some easy-to-use, standardized, actions in place."

More Eggplant Test Cons →

"I would like to be able to manage different projects in one repository or have better data exchange between repositories.""With regard to areas of improvement, report customization should be easier. It would be good if Tosca could provide standard reports for at least 20 variants. At present, there are only three to four variants. The mobile engine needs to be faster and easier to use; it is a bit cumbersome. Also, the object identification in the mobile engine needs improvement. I would like to see easy-to-use customizations for reports in the next release.""I think the downside would be licensing costs which are very high.""It needs better integration with JIRA.""It requires some coding customization that requires expertise.""They need to improve on the reports after the execution of automation tests, since all the current organizations are looking for detailed graphical reports.""The main area where there is room for improvement is how they do upgrades. Going through this current upgrade, we were delayed a month because we are using a third-party tool. It's called Tosca Connect by Tasktop. When this latest upgrade broke that relationship between the two, it took Tricentis a month to come back with a workable solution... Their whole upgrade process needs to be better and cleaner, from an end-user standpoint.""It is quite difficult to integrate the solution with other tools."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It is scalable, but it is a matter of money in the pocket. You can scale it, but then you have to have additional licenses. The licensing approach of eggPlant is not the best."
  • "Make a smart decision about the number of developer- and execution-only licenses you purchase to maximize your budget. We found that going heavier on execution-only licenses has been a way to reduce our costs and maximize our ability to benefit from the software."
  • "End-to-end testing isn't possible for us because of the licensing problems. It's very expensive, so we only have two development/execution licenses."
  • "It probably has a yearly license."
  • "This solution is expensive when compared to the market. However, the reason it is more expensive is because of its stability, high performance, and for its support of any technology."
  • "Eggplant Test is a very expensive solution."

  • "It is an expensive tool compared to other test automation tools. It has a lot of advantages over other tools."
  • "Expensive, but for long-term projects, it is paying back."
  • "The pricing is high, but altogether it offers you the ability to automate all sorts of applications: desktop, web, mobile, etc."
  • "We hired a consultant to figure out all the tools in our company and how they fit in our company before we purchased the solution."
  • "Tricentis Tosca may be relatively on the higher side in terms of pricing, but their sales rep can give pretty decent deals when asked."
  • "We have around 200 [concurrent] licenses and the cost around $1.4 million a year."
  • "My understanding is that it's an expensive product, although I don't know the specifics with regards to pricing."
  • "I would like to see better costing packs. There are several features but USD $11,000 for one license is expensive."
