We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We are now using it 24/7 because it is serving as an online backup, and very soon, the DR will activated on the product.""BDRSuite can help organizations save time and money by automating backup and recovery processes and reducing the need for manual intervention.""The network solution is the most important feature, because we have our own backup server and are doing file backups for our customers.""I enjoy the ease of the UI and how simple it is to use compared to other products.""Adding and removing backup jobs using BDRSuite is easy and also includes great documentation.""The agentless backups are the big selling point on this, as well as being able to send out across sites so that I can do a restore at either of our two locations.""Moving to cloud backups eliminated the need for clients to change USB drives or worry about drives being stored offsite.""The scalability is good. It can scale. Adding a new server to a foreign location is easy."

"The ability to diversify jobs within the same server helps break down a large chunk of data into more manageable and concentrated chunks.""VM backup is much faster and more reliable, as I can test my backups with Data Copy Access jobs.""I really like the reporting options you get for various email reports.""Backup/archive to multiple locations.""I am impressed with the tool's reporting and UniView features.""The ability to back up both physical and virtual appliances under one roof.""It is a quick and easy way to organize my backups and to keep track of them.""When I have had to use tech support, they've been very good."

Cons
"The solution's UI and integrations could be better.""Scheduling backups is challenging due to the poor quality of the UI.""There's a feature that does syncing with AWS Cloud backup online. It's not that straightforward to get it set up.""I would like to have a different set of products instead of having a single software which does everything.""Windows 10 does not have application-aware backups. From my point of view, that's what's existing needs improvement.""For the more sophisticated backups that do not have a set backup process, procedures that are outside of the norm, it would be nice if we had more control and did not have to use their technical support. While they're very responsive and have always come through in a reasonable time frame, we would like to be able to manage everything on our own.""BDRSuite could improve support for XenApp Citrix Backup.""It is not a well-known software. People do not know about Vembu."

More BDRSuite Cons →

"Unitrends can be challenging to scale.""Making the seeding process more accessible and easier to understand. Also, make more of the undocumented best practices easier to find.""The amount of updates which are being released. Updates should be limited to two or three a year, focusing more on quality instead of a rushed bug release.""If the interface could be less complex, it is would be great.""The solution’s UI can be improved. I am saying this because I have seen solutions with better UIs.""The solution's base operating system needs to be improved.""Network-based storage stability could be improved.""Follow up for the DRaaS service setup. I'm still waiting to schedule a DRaaS test after upgrading several months ago."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The product's pricing is a good value. Vembu is cost-effective versus using VMware Essentials. Regarding licensing, make sure you find the right workstation or server that you're going to install it on, and know the number of sockets it has, since the price depends on that."
  • "It is very cost efficient, effective. I’d say it's one-third the cost of Veritas when compared to the server backups. I even tried image backups on Acronis, but Acronis is very expensive. So these are some of the key reasons why I opted for it."
  • "We were able to take advantage of a promotional pricing campaign."
  • "The pricing structure is in line with other solutions. However, the option to replicate offsite to a unit at another office or at home is a big cost benefit. Instead of paying monthly for cloud storage, you replicate offsite for free."
  • "Pricing is fair enough. What was not clear enough in the documentation on the website was that that you're licensing per CPU socket and you are only licensing on the restore sockets, not the backup sockets. It's a bit technical, but it was very well explained during the demonstration that we had during the evaluation period."
  • "I prefer the way Vembu is licensed. When you look at Veeam or any other product, they price per node. Vembu is licensed per host. You just buy a host license and it backs up unlimited VMs within that host. The others charge per VM."
  • "Vembu is too expensive because they don't really have small-business pricing. This is a matter of personal opinion. They're going to tell you that they have competitive pricing because there are more expensive solutions in the marketplace, but there are better solutions in the marketplace that are more expensive. Their product is a better fit for small businesses, but they don't price it that way."
  • "The product's pricing is of good value. It was much more affordable than the alternative solution to it, which was Veeam. That would be the closest competitor, and between those two, Vembu was much more affordable. It seemed reasonable for what we needed to do."

  • "Make sure you do the homework to size the solution properly. Buy the Enterprise Plus licensing if you can afford it."
  • "When you purchase initially, get into the program which gives replacement hardware for free when you renew your support agreement."
  • "Initial pricing is competitive. Renewal pricing is steep, so make sure to project costs for the lifetime of the appliance(s)."
  • "Talk with the sales guys. They can work with you on the best package."
  • "We found that the cost of Unitrends was about the same as the Dell DR6300. We liked the fact that the Unitrends appliance was all-in-one."
  • "The cost of Unitrends definitely draws you in. The licensing is all included in the appliance, which is a great incentive."
  • "Pricing model constantly changes."
  • "You should be aware how much the monthly costs are to use, what the initial costs for hardware are, and what the options to expand are, if needed."
