Most Helpful Review
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:
It's 100% stable, it's always stable. We haven't had any bugs. The solution works very well and we haven't had any problems.
In regards to the workflows, the fact that we can actually have a full dashboard library of all the existing workflows on this is great. We can see all the workflows and what all the actions do and can work with scripts.
Communication with technical support is very good. It has a repository of knowledge base articles which we can access which are very helpful.
The most valuable feature is that it's simple and very ergonomic to use the product compared to other virtualizing product. Out of Microsoft, Red Hat, and IBM, we found VMware to be the best one.
The most valuable feature of this solution is the workflow creation.
The DRS feature from VMware is very valuable to us because it balances workloads.
The hardware abstraction layer, being able to make the VMs portable when moving to a different platform or over a WAN.
vCloud Director has improved our organization in so far as it is an easy solution to sell. I believe this is the case due to the fact that it is an easy tool to manage and to configure.
This solution has helped us make money and provision our clients faster.
Working with VMware has supported us especially in terms of building a very powerful cloud for our customers.
If a customer is looking for disaster recovery at a cheaper price, this is the best solution.
I like the functionality that's available with Orchestrator. The platform stability stuff that I would be involved in worries me from the automation side because you have a lot less hands-on control of things. Price point, it kind of puts us off.
We like the basic operations that we can do with the VM such as restarting, rebooting, creating snapshots, and deleting snapshots.
The stability is rock solid.
The initial setup was complex. There's a lot of things you have to factor in, like security, backup, disaster recovery, monitoring, and how to maintain the platform. It's something we still struggle with, but it's getting better.
Storage has room for improvement. It's a big problem for our solution. The interface also needs improvement, it should be simplified.
As we work towards more stability on the solution, sometimes we'll try something and it breaks and it's easier to restart the service. That's the only drawback. We've experienced this with other applications as well.
Mainly VMware integrates with other products, but there is no easy way to link with other products from a different vendor. We can integrate with other products from the same vendors fairly well, but if they could make it so integration is easier with other vendors, that would really help.
It is too expensive. One of the main issues is the price.
The custom workflows are very difficult and confusing.
I would like to see a greater ability to do mobile administration.
I would like to see, from within the Web Console, being able to define the project and custom templates per user; almost like how CloudSpec has approached the solution.
Improvements could be made in the building feature since there isn't a real building feature associated with the product. We require a building feature to integrate with other solutions.
vRealize Orchestrator is an expensive tool.
There are some shortcomings. There are bugs with opening support.
vCloud Director isn't cheap.
Technical support is something that we've had problems with in the past. Across all the VMware solutions we have not always had the best response from support. To be fair a lot of the issues that came up for us have been quite niche but it seems that in terms of release cycles they introduced a lot of bugs and it's a lot of stuff that support generally has to work quite hard on. There have been cases when we've logged critical priority issues and not had responses in time. I think support is something that can be worked on.
If I just need to look for something quickly, it's quite difficult to find it with the way it's set up now. They should make the search button better.
I would like to see mode accessory recovery and integration with SD-WAN.
Initially, the setup was complex.
Pricing and Cost Advice
Our licensing is on a yearly basis. We pay for the license and then we pay the support every year.
The solution is costly, efficient, and robust versus alternative solutions.
We are able to provision new clients faster. Every month, we take on more customers.
It enables us to provision new clients more quickly.
It is better than other solutions out there when it comes to cost.
