CylancePROTECT Other Advice

Hadar Eshel - PeerSpot reviewer

My primary recommendations for clients are Cylance (now part of BlackBerry), SentinelOne, and CrowdStrike. These solutions represent the core of what I offer to clients. Cylance, acquired by BlackBerry, has a solid historical track record and offers a reliable solution. However, I find SentinelOne and CrowdStrike to be more innovative in the market. Both companies prioritize endpoint security as their core focus and allocate all their resources to enhance endpoint protection. This dedication is evident in their technology, market strategies, channel management, OEM agreements, brand penetration, growth, and investments. Overall, I would rate it seven out of ten.

I'm a customer and end-user.

I'd advise potential users that, if they think that the features will represent your organization or the company, then it is fine. Otherwise, don't do it.

I would rate the solution five out of ten.

I would rate CylancePROTECT an overall ten out of ten. With the evolution of malware, the dependence on a hash record renders a lot of antimalware inadequate, and a proactive antivirus system is necessary.

The solution is expensive but reasonable because it is a high-grade enterprise-level piece of software and is competitive for what it does.

I have not encountered any solution that is as good, effective, reliable, or powerful as this product.

They like to see licensing at a higher level. That's not the norm for on-premises economist environments in the industrial industry. If you're an integrator versus an end user, they like to look at the quantity. Even though they like to start at quantities less than a thousand, it is cumulative. I've got a thousand clients at a hundred, so now I've got a 100,000. Therefore, don't let the scalability, where they like to play in tens of thousands, dissuade you from incorporating this product.

It is quite different from the standard signature-based approach to endpoint protection. At first, you're a little worried because you're so used to staying on top of it or having to stay on top of it versus building a level of trust that it is actually working, and I don't need to mother it.

I would rate CylancePROTECT a nine out of ten. I'll never give anybody a ten because that's a perfect world, and we don't live in a perfect world. This rating is based on my experience with Cylance from the onset, learning the product, working with it to roll it out, working independently, and interfacing with the client. It has been very outstanding.

We would encourage everyone evaluating endpoint protection solutions to run a 30-day pilot (minimum) in their own environments and with a representative set of devices. Be sure to test the management of the systems, including the policy management and whitelisting/exception management.

I'm working in a distributor company and we are actually selling CylancePROTECT.

The primary platform is a cloud-based solution. It is managed in the cloud. The one on-premise is called the hybrid platform where you can also do management locally on your site.

The best way to see the solution is to try it out. Try it first before worrying about pricing and see if it will meet your needs and how it works for your business.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten. They simply need to improve the SLA, the response, and the Persona feature. If they do, I would rate it higher.

I'm using the latest version of Blackberry Protect.

I'm not responsible for the actual setup and installation of this solution. It was our IT team who was responsible, but I believe that the setup and installation was straightforward.

For the deployment and maintenance of Blackberry Protect, we used three technical guys. They were all from IT and they provided support internally, which included support for Blackberry Protect, its license, etc.

We have 100 users of Blackberry Protect.

I didn't have the chance to contact the technical support team for this solution.

I'm recommending Blackberry Protect to other people who want to start using it.

Blackberry Protect is a good solution, so I'm rating it an eight out of ten.

Cylance is a product that I recommend trying. It is different from the traditional products that are out there like Symantec, McAfee, and Sophos.

This technology is very good, very stable, and we have great trust in it and what it delivers. They also do health checks from time to time and they help, which is useful.

This solution works well but there is always room for improvement. Nothing is perfect.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Beware and work out a process to restore items that were deleted by false flags.

Work out a process to investigate any odd behaviour or troubleshooting tickets with open source software being even a small sub-component.

For the majority of installs, the Cylance is going to break because of the small sub-component that's open-source that is out of date. Always no matter what problem is happening, double-check to see if there were any flags in Cylance because it's probably going to be Cylance blocking something along the line. It will drive you nuts to work with your third-party technical support to track down an issue to then find out it was Cylance blocking one small facet of it.

Work out all those details with your Cylance team first, this way, whenever you have an issue, you can identify that Cylance is involved because it's involved in everything.

An example of an issue we were having was while we were trying to install a check scanner the install did not work. Cylance was blocking an old open source piece of software that comes from Kodak that you can't update because Kodak says it is the latest version of our installer for the check scanner. The installer for the check scanner includes the open-source piece of software from Kodak that's out of date. This causes the entire check scanner not to work, Cylance blocks the main installation because of the sub-installation of the open-source software.

Make sure your ducks are in a row so that you can detect when Cylance is causing an issue, report it and get it whitelisted. If you do not, you're going to spend an inordinate amount of time figuring out whether or not Cylance did something to block you, whitelisting and then more time justifying why you need it whitelisted.

I'm sure we were much more protected with it on, but the problem is if you're protecting me from my network being taken down, by taking my network down, you are not protecting it. For this reason, I rate CylancePROTECT a five out of ten.

Do your homework. Demo products to see how they will work within your environment and involve your end users. End users are key to testing these deployments and what their experiences will be with it.

Above all, do not get hung up on price. You pay for what you get and expensive will hurt one time, where cheap will hurt forever, especially if you fall victim to a ransom attack, etc.

At the moment, my company uses CylancePROTECT, but it's considering using SentinelOne in the future for enterprise clients.

Between five thousand to ten thousand people use CylancePROTECT. That's the total for my company and its customers. Specifically, sixty to seventy people in my company use the solution, with forty engineers and developers, myself included. In contrast, twenty to twenty-five people belong to sales, marketing, and management teams.

CylancePROTECT requires maintenance, but not much because my company has strict policies. For example, a colleague came to me a few days ago because he wanted to install Oracle VM VirtualBox but couldn't because CylancePROTECT wasn't allowing him to install it. In that case, I either have to acknowledge it or make some policy changes because CylancePROTECT is too strict.

To anyone looking into implementing CylancePROTECT, my first question would be, "Are you working in a small or big company?" My advice to you would be based on your answer. My next question would be how strict you want your antivirus to be because if you want it to be less rigid and with less maintenance, then I'd tell you to use CylancePROTECT. If you're looking for a stricter solution with more maintenance, go with SentinelOne.

My rating for CylancePROTECT is eight out of ten because its technical support could be better, plus it needs to update its software regularly. The solution also has several areas for improvement, but the team still needs to work on it. In general, as an antivirus with an optics feature, CylancePROTECT is very good but still has room for improvement.

My company is a CylancePROTECT partner.

I don't know exactly which version we're using. A person in charge of that in our office was the person who looked for the product. I just read some things about it and I found that it was a very good product.

We have been trained to learn how to use the product and now we have a very good experience with it. The problem is, for me, sometimes it creeps into the computers and into the servers that we want to get running. Sometimes it has problems. That said, it's a very good product. We are okay with how it works.

I would recommend Cylance. I think it's very good and very stable. The only thing to keep in mind is you to have a very good channel and someone who really knows how to use the console and everything

Overall, I would rate the solution at a nine out of ten.

CylancePROTECT is going to tell you if there are any issues and you are going to be able to see everything from one single dashboard. If there are any issues on any computers across your whole architecture you will know about it.

If there were advice that I would give to someone thinking about working with CylancePROTECT, I would just say it is extremely — extremely — simple to manage and deploy.

On a scale of one to ten (where one is the worst and ten is the best), I would rate CylancePROTECT as a ten-out-of-ten as per our experience with it thus far.

I don't think too much about the features when it comes to an antivirus solution, such as this. When you try to combine too much into one product, you end up affecting the product as a whole. If you're a home user then it's great because you only pay once a year and it does everything including the antivirus, firewall, VPN, internet security, and more. However, when you're in an SMB or an SME installation, all of those things are decentralized.

My advice for anybody who is considering this solution is to switch if you have the money put aside. I would suggest using Professional Services to assist with the migration.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

We're consultants. We don't have a direct relationship with Cylance. We are working with clients on security, and handle assurance-type work for them. We're not specifically working with Cylance, however, in some cases, we may be providing it from a security review standpoint. We'd look at the client and at the product and ask: Do they have it configured properly? Are they using it properly in their overall security strategy? et cetera.

We're not managing it, we're not integrating it or installing in anything in that. We just look at it from a security review or assessment standpoint and tell the customer whether or not they have it properly implemented based upon what they're trying to accomplish.

Clients may use a hybrid or a cloud deployment model and may have it on various clouds, such as AWS or Azure.

I general, I would rate the solution at a seven out of ten.

The lack of details for the user is partly because of the way they detect. it is done passively, rather than dynamically, so they don't have a lot of information about the things that they already caught.

The suitability of this solution for any particular person will depend on their expectations. I would not rate this solution in the top five for things like presenting information, or ease of use. For standard protection they are ok, but if you have advanced demands, or a SOC, then I don't think that Cylance can compete with Carbon Black, CrowdStrike, or SentinelOne.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

You just have to download it from the Cylance website, so it's pretty easy. You have to be careful because if you have more firewalls you have to buy a separate product and the question is: How does it work with the firewall from a different vendor?

There should also be backup capability included.

I do, however, recommend the solution. I would rate this solution eight out of ten.

We are Cylance partners.

I'm not sure which version of the solution we're using. It's likely the most up-to-date version. They update them quite often.

I'd advise companies considering the solution to take some time to do a proof of concept to see how it would react in their environment and then decide if it is the right solution for them.

You can obviously get in touch with a partner (Grove Group) like us, and we can arrange a POC for your business. While we're dealing with the POC, it will showcase the product and how valuable the product is for your business. Plus, it will actually show what defective files it's picking up in real-time. You can do a side by side comparison while you're running Cylance with your existing endpoint protection to see the difference in protection. You can see exactly what Cylance does pick up on both the endpoint device and the admin console. I also love the fact that the en-point software is not using a lot of resources on the client. I would say you should take the opportunity and run a POC and evaluate the software and you'll notice with the web interface, the admin dashboard on the website, how easy it is to work with Cylance and protect your endpoints. You don't need any on-prem servers to run the endpoints software. Go and experience Cylance and see how AI and Machine Learning is the future to protect your Business.

I would rate the solution as a 10 out of 10.
