The contract with Dell Avamar included implementation, so my company implemented the solution with the vendor's help.

The deployment process is remarkably easy, thanks to the tools provided by Dell EMC. The Solve Desktop guides us through each step, offering scripts and facilitating feedback, ensuring smooth execution. Whether it's a third-party backup appliance or a backup appliance, setup can be completed within five to ten minutes. However, concerns arise with policy scheduling, integration, and customization for applications and databases, which may require additional time. The time required for the entire deployment process, including installation and configuration, typically ranges from two to three days in complex environments. This duration can vary depending on the number of certified individuals with experience in the specific tool, database, or third-party product integration. The expertise and understanding of the engineer implementing the solution play a significant role, as it's more about the person's knowledge and skills rather than the product itself. A single engineer is capable of handling the implementation. Maintenance is straightforward, and I haven't encountered any glitches in the past.

I used a partner involved by the principal vendor, from a company called MDS. They were really professional and were experts on the product.

The first time we deployed it, they came out and set it up like a demo or a proof of concept. We took the model that they provided in that proof of concept, and we installed it ourselves, but we did have a proof of concept before we ever bought it. It was in-house for 90 days, and it included one Avamar, one Data Domain, and a couple of proxies in one of our clusters.

I had to mash a vendor. EMC is out to make money, and then they want to capitalize their ability to make money. That's not necessarily a negative thing in the business world, but I don't care for a lot of that. Once a product is in-house, I want to talk technical, and they technically knew what was going on. They were good and very professional. They knew their products.

Usually, I'm the only one doing the deployment all the time. It takes half a day for the virtual backup.

The installation process was smooth as we transitioned from using Veritas appliances to the Dell solution in the same environment. A third-party company, Plus House, subcontracted by Dell, handled the installation remotely, working closely with our junior team members. The initial setup was completed within a day for each site, and an additional day was required to configure the clustering of backups, including SQL backups. This extra day was dedicated to finalizing the clustering and ensuring that all configurations were in place. Maintenance is handled by a team of approximately seven individuals who undergo training and manage regular tasks.

Since we are a government institution, commonly, the setup process is actually done by the supplier.

We had a partner, but they weren't so experienced. It seemed like we were the first customer that had implemented Avamar. 

I have set up the solution with an expert from Dell. With the help of an expert from Dell, the setup is straightforward.

During the implementation, we worked with a partner and it was a good experience.

This solution was not installed by us. We agreed that the implementation team would complete the installations.

We used a combination as we have some people who are new to the Avamar product.

We had people from Dell do the installation for us.

We had Dell assist us with the implementation process.

The solution’s deployment took around two to three weeks.

Currently, we have five technical engineers. Each one has its own specialization that they are capable of deploying Avamar. We can deploy the solution for our clients.

I handled the implementation myself. I did not need the help of an implementor or consultant. I can do it alone, in-house.

Deployment of Dell EMC Avamar is not easy.
