What is most valuable?

The speed and deduplication ratio are two of the most valuable features of the solution.

How has it helped my organization?

Nine years ago, we were relying on backup tapes only. Now, since we've moved to StoreOnce, as per the legal and compliance perspective we still have to use tapes, but we… more»

What needs improvement?

I'm using this product to save some files. It has a feature where I can make it as an SMB share. When I started using it for CIFS, the SMB share, had a limitation of… more»

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The license is part of the hardware. You don't need to buy or renew it separately. StoreOnce comes in a package: hardware and software. All the licenses come with it… more»

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We didn't have another solution previously, in terms of backup storage, but in terms of software, I have used some other products like Windows deduplication. This… more»

What other advice do I have?

We are using the private cloud deployment model. If you purchase the product, you will have peace of mind. You don't have to worry about the product at all. My only advice… more»

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did evaluate Data Domain from EMC, but I didn't like it because Data Domain has other limitations. In terms of density per rack, it was using more rack capacity. Also… more»

What is most valuable?

Data Domain Boost has a unique protocol. I don't think other vendors have a similar protocol and controls from the products I have had experience with. There are alternative solutions, but Data Domain… more»

How has it helped my organization?

Because of how it functions we do not have to make additional investment in hardware and services.

What needs improvement?

Like any product, it would be good to improve performance and the ease of dealing with operating the system. It needs a more familiar interface to make it easier to use for everyone. Other than that… more»

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I think it is important that Dell reconsider the pricing. I don't know what we pay off-hand, but I do know that the pricing is high compared with other competing products.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We are actually using both Veritas and Data Domain simultaneously. Between these two, Data Domain is more efficient for me and very scalable. There is a limitation to the scalability at some point… more»

What other advice do I have?

On a scale from one to ten, where one is the worst and ten is the best, I would rate Dell EMC Data Domain Boost as a ten. I strongly recommend this product for all its capabilities. I do self-study… more»

What is most valuable?

It was very simple to deploy the solution to the client that wanted to backup.

What needs improvement?

It was challenging to back up our Exchange database, which is one of the reasons we did not continue using this solution. It was very tough, and a case of having to contact the Microsoft Partner Network. Technical support needs to be improved. We could not integrate this solution with our tape… more»

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were not able to back up the Exchange database with this solution. In the end, we had to discontinue using it. We switched to EMC Data Domain, and the cost was one of the factors that influenced our decision.

What other advice do I have?

This is a solution that I recommend. It is a good product. It's stable, it is easy to deploy, and the visibility of the backup and restore is good. If I had my way then we would be using this solution for other applications and we would be running them side-by-side as a comparison. I would rate this… more»
