What is most valuable?

Ease of use is probably number one, compared to the previous storage that we've had. Easy scalability, easy set up. Compared to everything else, the Unity is, well, you could call it child's play. As long as you know what you're doing... more»

How has it helped my organization?

It takes a lot less time to manage. Setting up new storage for virtualization is really easy, so it saves a lot of time creating file shares. So, it does save us time, and cost when compared to any other storage solutions.

What needs improvement?

Maybe deduplication would be something that would be better to have. Also, it's a fairly new management interface, so work is still being done on that. But compared to other vendors and previous EMC storage, the Unity is really good. At the... more»

What is most valuable?

I didn't choose this solution. My boss picked the solution. I actually suggested something else from a different vendor. Personally, my opinion of it is there aren't a lot of great features with it.

What needs improvement?

There are plenty of areas for improvement. They can improve on the speed. They can improve on the dedupe features, because right now, if you're using certain functionalities, certain criteria, it doesn't dedupe. It's very limited in one sense, while other vendors dedupe on primary, on critical tier-1 data. You get support, but sometimes you have to sit there and... more»

What is most valuable?

* The ease of management and “user-friendly” management environment (GUI). * Simplicity for deploying and controlling storage elements. * Ability to redefine storage policies and improve performance (adding dynamic cache and “Auto-tiering”).... more»

How has it helped my organization?

It has improved the environments for many customers who have transitioned from other vendors storage platforms to Unity, due to technical proposals and offerings defined by us.

What needs improvement?

There are features still to come, like compression and deduplication on hybrid platforms, VDM improvements to be developed for NAS environments, and also improvements in the “self-migration” tools to push or pool information (to assist the... more»

What is most valuable?

* Expandability for capacity management is pretty important. * It has compression, which allows you to store more data than you would normally under the arrays. * The ease of use in central management by Unisphere Central. *... more»

How has it helped my organization?

By having ease of management in central management, this means that our company no longer needs to hire a dedicated storage engineer. The administration of it can be passed over to existing team members without us spending on additional... more»

What needs improvement?

The uses of tools to communicate with EMC directly. With EMC, I am not able to connect and resolve issues without assistance, so they can't do unattended maintenance on devices, which would be a massive benefit if they could. They need a... more»

What is most valuable?

* The performance * Ease of use

How has it helped my organization?

Before the product went in, we did not have any centralized storage. All our service storage was supported separately. We had multiple machines which added administration and maintenance costs. Whereas now, it is a single source of knowledge... more»

What needs improvement?

* The virtual appliance is limited to 4TB in storage. This should be unlimited for paying customers. * The front panel is too fiddly to take off and on. * The support model would be better within Australia. Support has been great, but onshore... more»
