Dell PowerConnect Switches Other Advice

Hasan Haseeb - PeerSpot reviewer

I'm very lucky to have support from Dell. I also have experience in implementing OS10. If you want to use Dell from scratch, you should watch some videos and understand the limitations. There is a support matrix, and you should go through the support matrix because not everything is open-open. So, compatibility can be an issue. You should get in touch with the Dell support team. They have some use cases, and one of the use cases could be similar to yours and match the requirements. Otherwise, it could end up in a mess.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

You can carry on a project without any consultation.

Since the VxRail solution is experiencing significant growth and demand, integrating Dell PowerConnect switches becomes crucial. This integration enhances the VxRail server by offering three distinct solutions. Thus, this gives Dell PowerConnect an edge over Cisco.

If you want to connect your virtualized environment and networks to your physical environment and users. In that case, Dell PowerConnect Switches, with VxRail, is the best choice for integrating such features into the hypervisor environment.

This product is mainly targeted to virtualization environments. Therefore, Dell has considered this product's scalability, reliability, and robustness.

If someone wants the server with VxRail as a free solution, I recommend going with the Dell PowerConnect.

Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

I recommend others use the solution to some extent. I suggest they prioritize solutions from HP over it. I rate it between six and seven.

I've been working with Dell PowerConnect Switches.

I would 100% recommend Dell PowerConnect Switches if you have a Dell environment and Dell infrastructure for more compatibility.

I'm rating Dell PowerConnect Switches seven out of ten. The product is fine in terms of reliability. It's just that its knowledge base is lacking and its technology also needs improvement versus other solutions in the market, so many people don't consider Dell PowerConnect Switches as primary switches.

I'm an integrator of Dell PowerConnect Switches.

We have decreased our use of Dell PowerConnect Switches in the past year because we are moving to virtualization and using SDN switches. The problem comes about because it is difficult to see the server end-point directly on the SDN. For our Dell servers, we are replacing the switches with pass-through modules because the spanning tree loops are the same.

My advice for anybody who is considering this solution is to consider issues that might occur when using devices from multiple vendors. We found this difficult because of the integration. We like Dell because it is easy to use and it integrates well with Cisco. However, we are now having a problem where it does not integrate well with SDN. If the environment requires connectivity to SDN then these switches may not be suitable.

Rating this solution as a switch, I would say that it is eight and a half out of ten. However, with respect to integration with new technologies, it is not mature enough and I would rate it a five out of ten.

Overall, I would rate this solution a seven out of ten.

The setup process of the product is not a problem. I need Dell to offer a variety of products and be more compatible with Cisco.

My company does everything perfectly with the help of Dell PowerConnect Switches. For the engineers and customers, Cisco is a little bit simpler tool compared to Dell products, but I am not sure about it since the opinion is based on what our company's customers claim.

I rate the overall product a nine out of ten.

This is a very good product, and it can be used lightly, but you have to understand how it works before implementing it. I would give this product a score of seven out of ten.

We're just customers. We aren't partners with Dell.

The solution is fairly easy to use. We configured it and plugged it in, and now it works without a problem. We haven't had any issues with this platform after a year and a half of use.

We don't have any use cases with these devices currently. We do have corporate support from Dell because we bought switches and servers. I don't administrate servers, I only administrate on network infrastructure.

The implementation we've done so far has been quite small. However, Dell is very good for big companies.

I'd recommend people buy the solution. It's much less expensive than Cisco, and yet it has the same functionalities.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten.

In terms of costs and reliability, they are okay. It might not be able to do more complex things so anyone looking to use the solution would need to figure out their requirements.

My advice would be to go with Proactive Care.

Proactive care is the highest level of support contract that is available or provided by Dell.

I would say it's recommended, especially for the power connector for a higher level and various switches like the eight thousand series and higher.

My advice would be to always call for Proactive Care support contracts because they will make sure you get the best service that is available.

There is no need for improvement because they are proactively maintained by Dell themselves.

I would rate this solution a ten out of ten.

If you need some advanced features and reliable core networking components at an affordable price, these switches are for you. I have used them for years now and never had any problems. Sometimes I wonder how Cisco isn't losing money to companies like Dell. View full review »

Dell seems to accommodate everyone when it comes to managing these switches. The ease of use is an important selling point that has allowed them to push into the market.

My advice for anybody who is considering these switches is that they are a good product and I recommend them. There is some training available to help understand the architecture, which you should take. If you are coming from a Cisco background then you will find it very easy to integrate.

One of the things that I have learned about using this product is that there is steady development going on at all times. There are other products and technologies that are fading away, whereas this product is improving.

Another thing that I have learned about working with Dell is that they will never sell you something that is not redundant. Rather, their solutions are highly available. They don't want to have anything with a single point of failure. Essentially, the level of resiliency and redundancy is very high.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.
