OpenText Documentum Initial Setup

Each installation is very different because each customer has different solutions in their ecosystem. The product does give us connectors to work with various industry-leading solutions. Often, we have to be innovative to develop our own integration points.

We encourage the customers to share their roadmap. It's not just about installing Documentum and catering to their current needs. We also look at how it works with the customer's existing ecosystem and encourage them to establish a roadmap. Then, we have a better approach to how a customer can benefit from it than just using Documentum as a silo application. We are integrators.

The initial setup was relatively easy for me as I had prior experience. However, for newcomers, there might be a bit of a learning curve, especially when it comes to navigating the documentation.

We have done so many upgrades and updates. We have run the full gambit of extremely easy and extremely difficult. We also grow through acquisitions and mergers. When you have to roll over systems and migrate data from other systems, and you have a catalog with 20,000 things or applications, millions of documents, and terabytes of data, you can have everything that you can imagine, from easy to the most complicated.

Our implementation strategy is by project. There is no one broad stroke you can paint it with. Whether it is a clinical, quality, or regulatory migration or an integration or connectivity to another system, it is a unique task.

My company was involved in the initial setup. Nothing is ever as straightforward as we would like it to be, but it was successful. We came in on time and on budget, and that is our meter for success.

The implementation of Documentum took around three months. Installation and configuration were quick, but fine-tuning and data migration required time. We followed a structured process, including role definition and data import. Transitioning users and managing duplicate data were challenges. We ensured departmental segregation and enforced read-only access to old data to facilitate the transition.

The initial deployment of Documentum was not overly difficult, as we had experience spanning over 20 years with various versions. We followed thorough preparation, including reviewing release notes and infrastructure guidelines. While we managed most deployments in-house, we occasionally sought assistance from experts for specialized components like OTDS.

The initial setup was easy because we have senior developers with expertise. We used it for about six years before upgrading to a different version last year.

We completed the development in-house. There was a lot of work with this project, and we developed a lot of workflows and made a capture application. It took us about a year to complete the deployment. We have almost 2,000 users, mostly from the accounting department.

Setting up Documentum is quite complex and hard to understand. You need someone who has experience with the solution.

The initial setup is simple. There is a lot of documentation and we have our own procedures for installation based on individual architectural requirements. Deployment time really depends on the environment. If it's only Documentum that's quite a quick process, but if it's the whole bundle with Documentum Engine Xplore, CPS, then it can take three days and if you're adding extras on top of this then it will take longer. Deployment usually requires one or two people.

The initial setup as per their install guide was pretty spot on. As we customized, it became more complex. This could be due to our unique business rules or because we were building an integration to the software. View full review »

I wouldn' say the setup was straightforward but it was also not complex. It's somewhere in between.

Initial setup was complex. Several times we started with a solution. Then, in production, we started to get problems concerning performance or complexity, because we tried to use a product that needs to be generic to our customer specific solution. Then usually, when we address the problems, we figure out that replacing some Documentum-specific features with a customized feature (usually a simple one) can be a huge improvement.

The initial setup was a bit difficult. After we read the documentation, the setup and configuration documents, and with the help of the videos, it was easier.

Initially, it took a lot of time to understand the architecture and planning the capacity.

It took a few days in total to deploy.
