Check Point CloudGuard CNAPP Previous Solutions

Yokesh Mani - PeerSpot reviewer
Deputy Manager at Computer Age Management Services Pvt. Ltd.

We have Prisma Cloud, which is not fully implemented, so we need to use Check Point simultaneously. Prisma Cloud excels in terms of UA, visibility, and user-level policies and management. CloudGuard is more cost-efficient but not as user-friendly as Palo Alto. At the same time, having the GSL Builder makes it more efficient to make CNAPP rules without much background knowledge.

We used a Cloud-native solution to identify security issues but it did not provide any detailed visibility. Also, multiple console access where required in order to identify and security flaw.

Initially, we were using tools provided by the service provider. These included Scout Suite, AWS Config, AWS Trusted Advisor, and Amazon GuardDuty. These are monitoring tools, and we used similar tools for Azure as well. We needed to go through different consoles to identify any incident, which was not convenient.

We used Palo Alto's Prisma Cloud. We switched because it did not have the feature sets we were looking for. The price was not very flexible, and we did not get the type of support we needed. It was not like the support that we get from Check Point as our partner.

We were using a third-party solution earlier, which was quite localized and was having limited utility in terms of system security. We switched to Check Point due to peer feedback and advice, as my peers were extremely happy after trial use and pushed us to try the solution due to its numerous utilities, which are customizable. It is quite affordable in comparison to its other competitors in the market.

Initially, we were using tools provided by the service provider, such as, ScoutSuite, AWS Config Rules, AWS Trusted Advisor, or Amazon GuardDuty for monitoring, and similar tools for Azure as well. Then, we needed to go through a different console to identify any incidents.

Initially, we used submit a report, but there was no remediation nor information provided how to remediate workload issues. In our current scenarios, we are able to get the complete visibility. The complete visibility of the solution has been a key to the increase in our productivity.

Before implementing Check Point CloudGuard Posture Management, we relied on the native CSPM of AWS Config.

For beginners in the field, AWS might be a good starting point due to its simplicity. However, for more experienced users who require more advanced features, CloudGuard offers a more mature and comprehensive solution.

I've used Palo Alto Prisma Cloud, but I've also used Palo Alto's Cloud Security Posture Management tooling. I prefer Check Point, which is why we have it.

I still have both solutions, but I use Palo Alto for something else. I use Twistlock, a Prisma Cloud module, for runtime protection of containerized workloads. I also use Dome9 for CSPM. I did not like using Prisma Cloud for CSPM because I did not care for the rule language or configuration.

Also, I feel like Check Point, and Dome9 listen to their users. If I'm dying for a new feature to improve the solution, they would hear me out and consider it. I guarantee you that Palo Alto doesn't care.

Before Dome9, we just used native.

What we were doing natively wasn't sufficient. Once we saw what we were capable of doing with Dome9, that showed us all the stuff that we weren't doing with the native stuff that we could and should have been doing. Because it was so buried in there, we didn't know about it or how to do it. So, Dome9 helped us learn from a native tool perspective that there are other things that you can be doing with those tools that may not be that apparent.

The solution helps save our security team time. Before we had Dome9, our security team had to go through each problem and check it. Nowadays, we just need to analyze one report and use one tool. We don't have to go through all the accounts with all their data. Dome9 is saving them approximately 10 hours a week.

We implemented Dome9 as soon as we started having some production services on our current environment and started our cloud journey three years ago.
