Dell PowerProtect DD's pricing is expensive, and there is no option for perpetual licensing.

The approximate license cost for Dell PowerProtect DD (Data Domain) is around 5,00,000. It is a physical license for the term of the product. Veeam has an annual license, and the rest are all tied together.
As for the maintenance costing, I have included that in the capital expenditure on the data domain for the Veeam support maintenance contract associated with that as well. But for the hardware, we purchased., a five-year block as a one-off capital cost, whereas Veeam has a shorter lifetime. This is because it's more revenue-based expenditure. Although we normally buy that for three years. But it's sort of rolling. Whereas we replace the physical hardware for up to five or seven years, depending on limitations on that.

Licensing is available under per TB storage rates. Another level of licensing is available on technical support. There is a third licensing tier that includes more features. They are expensive but not complicated, i.e. more for high-end users. Reliability needs more cost.

Based on price, I can say you won't get 24/7 support from any other product like what Dell EMC provides. The price may be a bit higher than other products in the market, but you will receive ten out of ten support with next-business-day delivery on parts' availability. And on a product basis, DD is a good product. The product comes with a support contract, so DD will be a better option on that basis.
It's worth the money somebody is spending to use Data Domain.
On a scale where one represents high price, and ten represents low price, I rate the solution a five, which means that the solution is of medium pricing.
View full review »The price is really high compared to other vendors. The licensing cost is huge. Normal, mid-tier companies or small-scale companies wouldn't be able to afford it easily. Only bigger organizations like enterprises can afford this kind of product.
View full review »It's hard for me to rate PowerProtect on pricing because it's a large suite of products, with devices at various price points.
View full review »The cost could be lower. Sometimes it's not very competitive.
The licensing depends on the specific solution sizing, however, there are cheaper solutions that I have seen in the market. For example, HP tends to cost less.
View full review »It's a perpetual license, but you pay monthly for support. If you're integrating with the cloud, you have to pay for using the cloud. That's the only recurring cost you have with this tool.

There are many different licenses, so you pay for what you need. There are various aspects you can add on, like extra speed, or something just for reading data. There are licenses to do replication as well. You have a lot of options.
View full review »If we do not move to the cloud solution and stay with our on-premise version we will miss some new features.
I rate the price of Dell PowerProtect DD a three out of five.

The solution is reasonably priced. We get discounts as well. They remain competitive.
It's a hardware solution. We don't have to worry about software licensing. We can use any software on it that the client likes.
Data Protect, DP 400, and higher models include EMC software and a set of various different software.
If you buy the unit, you pay for it for three or five years. They also offer support with a warranty that you can extend.

The solution was cheap; now it's becoming more expensive. For example, if you buy it for 10 terabytes, you have to buy 10 terabyte also of software for it. It's called the capacity software. It increased our prices.
View full review »I can't say I am very happy with the cost of the EMC product because we also have got a Veritas product. The comparison is that the EMC Data Domain solution is more expensive than the Veritas and they have similar capabilities.
We were satisfied at the time we made the purchase of the EMC product, but subsequently, we went in a different direction. We added another product because we decided the price was too high for the original solution and to continue to add licenses. We are running both environments now.

View full review »I can't remember what the license costs are. They might be paid monthly or every two months.

Pricing is related to size. A lower range solution might be about $33,000. My customers use higher range versions with a price of around $100,000. That's the price for both the hardware and the software.
View full review »The price of the backup appliance is slightly expensive. Compared to other vendors, the pricing will be slightly higher.
The backup software from Dell that you can use to operate the Data Domain is very cheap, and there are many different plans that can be purchased as a subscription or full license.

The price point is high. That said, they're competing with other products like Veritas, so in that sense, the price is good, or, maybe typical. And yet, whenever we are competing with some legacy type of product, the price difference is huge.
It's a premium product and so the pricing is somewhat expected.
In terms of scaling, the price is difficult to pin down. IF you buy 4 terabytes, it's not so easy to upgrade to 16. YOu cannot add shells. So users should scale up, to avoid hitting limits down the road. The standard of Data Domain is typically 32 terabytes in terms of sizing.
The price of the solution and support for Dell PowerProtect DD is expensive. We have customers that cannot upgrade to a newer version of the solution because the support is too expensive.
Most people would rather buy a simple Synology hardware backup solution than
spend a lot of money on this solution. It's simple for us to operate, such as sharing
a drive or creating a drive, but it is not for everyone.
I rate the price of Dell PowerProtect DD a two out of ten.
With any duplication product, the initial cost is not cheap. But, once the Data Domain was setup, it just runs. I have very little to no day-to-day maintenance tasks other that monitoring for alerts, which it sends an email to notify me if anything has alerted.

In Naira it was about twenty-seven million (approximately $75,000 USD) for the implementation and maintenance cost for three years. All that is needed now is the maintenance cost.

Buying Dell EMC PowerProtect DD (Data Domain), our clients don't have to pay for extra licenses. They can just buy any backup solution. For example, they can buy Dell EMC Avamar, or they can buy Symantec, Convault, etc.
When buying IDPA products, you don't have to buy anything, because you'll have an integrated solution: a data domain appliance plus software, the software being Dell EMC software which is a big package of software that allows you to do everything.
When buying Dell EMC PowerProtect DD (Data Domain), you can just buy a very cool backup software with deduplication, and that's all. It's very perfect, very nice. You can buy the backup software, e.g. Dell EMC, Convault, Symantec, etc.
Pricing for this product could still be improved, though several years ago, its price was very high. When there are more competitors, though, the price becomes more attractive both for the customer and partner. Now we can get more discounts for projects. The price for this product will decrease, because more and more companies now produce integrated devices, e.g. deduplication is not a very new technology, but it was a feature that was limited to several market leaders.

One thing that anyone considering this solution has to realize is that it is expensive. It is expensive for a reason, but it is expensive.
