What needs improvement?

The most significant improvement would be to make the product cheaper. For additional features, it's currently unfortunate that the network firewall isn't really a next-generation firewall. If that were included, then we wouldn't have taken on Fortinet as well. Our problem is that we have a relatively small number of staff that is continually being reduced. It's easier to deal with one product and several screens rather than two products, Fortinet and F5. The inverse is also true, if Fortinet was a stronger product, then we probably wouldn't have taken F5.

What other advice do I have?

For others wishing to implement, you need to be very clear about what you want to do, how you want to protect your data and then search for a solution. It could be F5 or something else. When we asked for a review of the product, we provided a description of the features we wanted, and they proposed F5 and Fortinet for the same money. I think Fortinet has fewer features than F5. Fortinet is okay, although it does require two appliances so if you also want a low bouncer you have to buy for the low bouncer and Fortinet. When you take F5 only one appliance is necessary and it's a simple… more»

What is most valuable?

A load balancer is a load balancer, in terms of functionality. I need the interface to be easy to use for my team members who have not spent hours working on it, so I am… more»

How has it helped my organization?

We had a requirement for these applications to be load balanced. Without a dedicated load balancer, we would have had to use a Round Robin DNS, which does not have any… more»

What needs improvement?

I would like a notification when a new version of the software is available. They told me to sign up for their newsletter, but I have not received any notification for a… more»

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is inexpensive, and even their “unlimited” version, the VA MAX is still far cheaper than competitors. I love that they do not price on some arbitrary throughput rating… more»

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have used F5 in the past. They are incredibly fantastic, but they are so expensive. We went with LoadBalancer.org because we did not need the bells and whistles of F5… more»

What other advice do I have?

For load balancers, these guys are perfect. If you need a lot more bells and whistles, you may need a more expensive product. Tell the sales guys at Loadbalancer.org your… more»

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We proceeded a long way down the road with F5, then decided to go a different direction shortly before the production environment was built.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the securing of virtual apps and desktops. This solution increases the backend network service performance, which is one of the things that we like the most.

What needs improvement?

Bugs in the software have had an impact on us. Better quality control or quality assurance would be an improvement. Some of our customers have questioned the security of this solution lately… more»

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing costs for this solution vary depending on which model is being used. It comes in many different sizes and models. I think that the cost of support, or maintenance, might be in addition… more»

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Prior to this solution, we used F5 BIG-IP and the Azure Load Balancer.

What other advice do I have?

This is definitely a solution that I recommend. I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Our clients do evaluate other options and vendors such as F5, Cisco, Palo Alto, and Microsoft Azure before deciding on which solution to implement. People generally choose Citrix NetScaler because of… more»

What is most valuable?

* SSL Offloading * VM availability * L7 load balancing

How has it helped my organization?

The boxes were used to load balance the environment, making it more reliable, and improving the performance and response of the applications.

What needs improvement?

The user interface could be more friendly and CLI could be more like that of Fortigate.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Compared to F5, FortiADC pricing is better.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I’m a F5 engineer as well and, to be honest, I do prefer BIG-IP, but as I’ve worked at Fortinet partners I had to deploy some of these. Before FortiADC, I deployed a… more»

What other advice do I have?

It’s easy to use, but it could have more features, when comparing it to a F5. Make a checklist before going into it hands-on. This will make it faster to become familiar… more»

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I’m used to deploying F5 BIG-IP load balancer and all of its modules. Either it’s way easier or I'm more used to it.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable aspect of this solution is that it is simple to deploy. The deployment took us ten minutes. We only require two staff members for the deployment. It's all automated and it's a very stable product.

What needs improvement?

In terms of what needs improvement, the price could be lowered. We've tried to deploy more of them but our purchasing department has said that they're way too expensive and they would prefer to use something else. We sort of stopped deploying them because of that. There are additional costs to the… more»

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were using Brocade before Pulse Secure, and then before that, we were using Riverbed and before that, we were using Azure.

What other advice do I have?

I really like this solution. I would rate it a nine out of ten. My advice to someone implementing this solution would be to use a Terraform to deploy to make it as automatic as possible.
