Trellix Endpoint Security (ENS) Other Advice

Joseck Wekesa - PeerSpot reviewer
Partner Account Manager at Trinexia

I rate Trellix Endpoint Security six out of 10. I would give it a seven or an eight if not for the vendor's shortcomings in terms of support and local presence. The scale and speed of response make a difference. It's an excellent product that may not be perceived as such because of how it's supported and the awareness of potential customers.

Before implementing Trellix, you should take time to understand the core use cases you want to achieve and match them to specific features. You should also do a limited proof of concept with the vendor or a distributor.

I'm a reseller and solutions provider.

It can be deployed in a virtualized environment or on the cloud. It depends on the client's requirements. I typically recommend the SaaS environment, however, in the Phillippines, it's mostly on-premises still. In that case, we may use a virtualized or physical server.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten.

I'd rate the solution seven out of ten. Having used Trend Micro as well, I would rate Trend Micro higher. However, I would still choose this product as a second option.

When we recommend a product, we would recommend something based on the fit of the product and customer requirements. We worked with Defender, we worked with Trend Micro, and we worked with McAfee. All of them almost overlap in multiple use cases. That said, we do see the customer IT strategy and where they're going, and they are adopting Azure more. We know there are certain limitations in their landscape where there may be some old legacy systems, and in that case, then we would either switch back to McAfee or Trend Micro instead of Defender.

We have two administrators that are managing this solution.

My advice to others is for them to try the solution out. It is important to check, l the complexity of the solution because it's a great solution with lots of features and can do very granular settings. However, this can also be something that can be a hindrance because it does make it a very complex solution to learn.

It is a great solution overall. There is a bit of a learning curve on it when you compare it with other platforms, which I think might be simpler to manage, or more straightforward. It's a very complex solution you have to get used to it.

I rate McAfee MVISION Endpoint an eight out of ten.

I don't recommend McAfee for endpoint users. This is a very crucial tool that to have these days. However, it is too heavy for the end user.

Make a really detailed survey of all the systems before implementing any solution on the endpoint. Do not buy the license and try deployment after that.

Ten people are required for maintenance.

You should monitor how efficiently the solution functions, how it will impact your system, and how many files will be processed. The more files your system has, the more security time is needed to scan them daily. Due to this, your system may become slower. Trelix ensures the system does not slow down even when Trelix runs in the background.

Overall, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

My advice to people considering this solution is that they should take a look at it. As of now, that is all I can say. I was not focused on working with all of the products within this category and, after a long time, I am working with them again. Just these last three or four months, I am back into evaluating the security solution sets more rigorously.

I am not biased at this point and have to leave the possibilities wide open in order to make a good recommendation.

On a scale from one to ten where one is the worst and ten is the best, I would rate McAfee MVISION Endpoint as a five to six in a range of ten. The rating is not about the product being perfect, I am not rating it too high because the things that are missing are things that really should be a part of a superior endpoint solution already. They have so much to work on as of now with this product that it seems to be lagging behind. With their experience in the business, they should know these things are important. If you look into the other competing products of whatever brand, the competition has already released identity and access management. The new organizations in the category are coming into this field with all the latest innovations. As more of them do, they will create a challenge in the marketplace. McAfee is lagging a little behind and not moving quickly to keep up.

I think that this is a good option for people working from home because it is easy to implement and deploy the agents.

My recommendation for anybody who is implementing this product is to have VPN access set up, adding to the security, especially when working from home.

I have some experience with McAfee MVISION Endpoint, and I'm currently using it. I can't remember the exact version of the solution which I'm using, but it's the latest version.

My company is a customer of McAfee MVISION Endpoint.

My company is a telco, so I don't have the exact user count, but it's surely more than a hundred. All roles within my company use the product, even people at the highest levels.

At the moment, there's no plan to increase usage of McAfee MVISION Endpoint within the company.

My advice for people looking into implementing McAfee MVISION Endpoint is to use the demo, roll it out within your organization, utilize its functionalities, and let it work for you.

In terms of rating, I'm giving McAfee MVISION Endpoint a solid eight because it does what's needed and it works, so no complaints.

With MVISION Endpoint, even if you don't know about cybersecurity, you can just turn on the protection checkbox. It's that easy. It was really relatable to my experience with Sophos because the configuration there was also that simple, so I really liked it.

For those who can't afford expensive cybersecurity professionals but are responsible for configuring the security of the organization, MVISION Endpoint is a good product to go with. It's flexible, and you can manage it from the cloud or on-premises.

At present, it is often used by small businesses because of its ease of use, configuration, and deployment.

It's been around on the market for a long time, and has undergone many improvements. So, on a scale from one to ten, I would rate McAfee MVISION Endpoint at eight.

I like FireEye products, and they have a huge portfolio for this solution. However, this is not a magic bullet where you can install it and your problems will disappear. The problem is with the people, rather than the tool. From my perspective, you can install every tool, but you need to have a security operations team involved in the process of analyzing, sorting, and eliminating threats.

When we started our project, we had very few people and we have realized that this had to change. The system without human intervention is useless. We needed to build more complex security operation centers to handle false positives, the triage process, and eliminating threats.

The biggest lesson that I have learned from this solution is that people need to be ready and the business needs to be ready to use it. This is not a toy. It is a very mature solution to protect the internals of the organization and it should be treated in this way.

This is not the worse product that I have seen. I've seen many, many bad products. At the same time, this is not the best product that I have seen.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

If you are deploying on Windows or Mac, there will be minimal issues, and you can go for this solution. With Linux, you need to understand a few features. What you expect from Windows and Mac is not available in Linux. If your main technologies are open source, then probably rethink about FireEye Endpoint Security. You can go for FireEye Endpoint Security after they have the same capabilities in Linux. Most of the features are there in their roadmap.

We mostly faced issues with Linux support. In the past, we also had issues related to communication between an agent and an endpoint where they didn't communicate, the communication got stopped automatically, or the data communication time didn't sync properly. In the later versions, they improved and resolved these issues.

I would rate this solution a seven out of ten. It's gradually growing, and a few features that we require are not there. If these requirements are satisfied, I would rate them nine or ten.

Organizations trying to or going for the FireEye solution should understand that they won't be able to see under the hood or what is happening within the product. FireEye is quite a black box solution. Understanding why certain findings got a particular verdict is not easy. If you want well-automated operations and you don't have an advanced operations team that wants to check the verdicts and understand how the product is working and making decisions, then it is good for you. If you have proper engineering skills on board and your operations teams want to understand the basic logic within the product that they are using on a daily basis, this might not be the best product for you.

I would rate it an eight out of 10.
