Easy to change categories and has many ways to filter

Pros and Cons

  • "The categorize formula is very helpful. Previously, we used the Cisco solution, where we could not choose how sites are categorized. Blue Coat updated a lot of sites I categorized. There are other valuable features as well, such as block by location, block by IP, allow by IP, and block by user name, domain, or group domain."
  • "Java does not completely work. We are dependent on Java and when the current console does not run with Java, it is a problem for us."

What is our primary use case?

Blue Coat allows access to some sites and blocks other sites, depending on your configuration. I look at high risk configuring. It lets me allow some applications and block others.

We use the on-premises version.

What is most valuable?

The categorize formula is very helpful. Previously, we used the Cisco solution, where we could not choose how sites are categorized. Blue Coat updated a lot of sites I categorized. There are other valuable features as well, such as block by location, block by IP, allow by IP, and block by user name, domain, or group domain.

What needs improvement?

Java does not completely work. We are dependent on Java and when the current console does not run with Java, it is a problem for us.

I would also like to seem them change the interface.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been using this solution for three months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

For now, it's stable. We have done some troubleshooting and the like.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I hope this solution is scalable because we already implemented this system for more than one client.

We have about 10,000 users. They are in many departments: accounting, business, IT, etc.

We have three people that maintain the system because the first implementation is already online, so the troubleshooting goes to the administration. The daily work is managed in two versions. The first one has many changes. The other is fine to handle day by day, with actions such as add user, remove user, etc.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously, I used Cisco IronPort web filtration.

I switched because this is a newer technology and this product or system comes with a lot of upgrades. I use the most updated technology and solution to cover my system.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward. It has taken a lot of time because we were waiting to have lines come from outside my country since we are working with virtual machines for the first time. Changing from physical to virtual online machines took a while.

We used the central management, which is easy to use and transfer from books to online, or from online to books.

What about the implementation team?

We used a vendor to implement, who supports Blue Coat in my country.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I also weighed Forcepoint and Trend Micro as other possible vendors.

What other advice do I have?

If you need web services, this product covers your needs.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Good third-party integration for user authentication and authorization, but technical support needs improvement

Pros and Cons

  • "This solution offers categorization for YouTube and other specific applications from Facebook to WhatsApp, which can be controlled whether it's on mobile or PC."
  • "Technical support needs to be improved because they take a very long time and there is no communication or notification."

What is our primary use case?

We use this solution for securing network traffic.

What is most valuable?

The Gateway is an advantage that I can see in Cisco.

The WCCP is good at delivering HTTP and HTTPS traffic. Before this ping forwarding was a problem for us.

This solution offers categorization for YouTube and other specific applications from Facebook to WhatsApp, which can be controlled whether it's on mobile or PC.

You can partition your IPs based on scoring from Cisco Cloud.

There is a variety of options for integration with other products for authentication and authorization of users.

You can control everything through policy.

What needs improvement?

Technical support needs to be improved because they take a very long time and there is no communication or notification.

Controlling engines at the network layer needs to handle more links or multiple links from the internet.

Controlling with the applications, or more applications as part of the local applications so that it's bigger.

The price should be moderated.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this product in my daily operations for forty years.

How are customer service and technical support?

When it comes to this technical support, sometimes it is not good. If you open a case with the local region here in the Middle East, sometimes also from the outside, the tech support takes a long time getting you logged in and troubleshooting files and screenshots.

They are not quick to respond or in the analysis, they don't even let you know what the current status is with my issue or a plan of resolving it.

I have been impacted often with issues regarding our integration from Cisco with this solution.

The technical support takes a lot of time without any feedback or any answers. They never even let you know if they are working on fixing it.

After some time, I end up fixing it myself.

And after a long time, I troubleshoot this issue and fix it myself. And notification would be cleared.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I know from the manager that the price is too high and that other solutions offer the same features for less.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

There are some other powerful competitors such as ForcePoint and Symantec.

What other advice do I have?

I use this product and implement it.

I would rate this solution a seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

A very good solution, but needs a real-time malware classification engine and control over file execution

Pros and Cons

  • "Overall, it is a very good solution. It is a simple solution and very easy to set up."
  • "It should have a real-time malware classification engine. It should check the malware on the website. It would be good if it had a real-time malware check for the websites because currently, it just compares the DNS queries of the blacklist. It should also have malware control over file execution and the types of files that the users are allowed to download."

What is our primary use case?

We have been working with the administration of the product as well as looking at various features of the product, such as locking of the URL. We have also been checking certain intelligence to see how it helps in maintaining security posture for the organization. In addition, we have also been looking at command and control, communication with other IPs, and early blocking of the DNS requests.

What is most valuable?

Overall, it is a very good solution. It is a simple solution and very easy to set up.

It should also have malware control over file execution and the types of files that the users are allowed to download.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with this solution for over one and a half years.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support is very good for the existing features, but they must incorporate more features in their solution, such as file execution blocking and real-time malware check.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was very simple because it was just the installation of agents on the system, and it can communicate with the cloud easily. It didn't give me any problem.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price should be slightly lower than the current price because if you look at the whole solution, it is simply a threat intelligence solution to block blacklisted things. The price should be lower looking at the features provided by the solution. The price isn't too high either, but it could be lower.

What other advice do I have?

If you are looking to have a simpler solution that can easily prevent malicious threats, you can go for it. If you want to have a more general solution, for example, with control over file execution or real-time malware engine, you can go for a web security gateway. If you want to have a number of things integrated within a single solution, such as DLP, you should go for Forcepoint Security Gateway. Cisco Umbrella doesn't provide such a feature.

I would rate Cisco Umbrella a seven out of ten.
