Fortinet FortiSwitch - Secure Access Scalability

The scalability is strong because everything resides in FortiGate, so the switching and wireless itself is all fine. You can scale the network to twice the size it is today with no problem. However, you need to upgrade the FortiGate back end. It's not like the current FortiGate will allow you to do all those extra switches and wireless access points without an upgrade on the back end.
View full review »It is very scalable. Our clients are small, medium, and large businesses. Fortinet has been traditionally more into the small and medium sizes, but in the last two years, that has changed. We can see Fortinet switches in corporates and large enterprises, including banks.
View full review »There are around 50 end users using this solution. Currently, our office isn't expanding, so I don't anticipate a rise in user count.
However, if that changes and wired connections become necessary for workstations (everyone uses wireless now), FortiSwitch would be my main choice for scaling the solution.

It is a scalable product. We have over 60 end users using this solution.
Other branches have fewer users, like 15 to 20. But at the head office, a lot of web traffic passes through it.

For us in the SMB market, everything has been working very well. So, we are not doing very big deployments.

The scalability it provides is excellent, capable of handling large networks effectively. However, there are challenges related to scalability in terms of pricing. We deployed FortiSwitch in South America, where the minimum workforce at one location is approximately five thousand employees. Additionally, at another client's site, there are approximately three thousand employees. Moreover, there's a company locally with a workforce ranging from small to medium to large, totaling around five hundred employees, where FortiSwitch has proven effective.

We used to get issues where people bring in their own devices, and once they get access to a network cable, they just plug into the network point and had access to browse the Internet. Now, even though all ports are connected to switches, you won't get anything if the port is not enabled.
About 500 people at our company use the solution.

It is a scalable solution. The scalability of the solution depends on the hardware. We like stacking the number of switches but the solution is not owing any number, it is fixed. All our clients are enterprises. I rate the scalability an eight out of ten.

I would say that it's fantastic. Once you get the handle of how FortiGate is designed, their interface, how they think, that's the part that's scalable. When I shift from the 60 up to something far more sophisticated and faster, I don't have to go through a horrific learning experience. In other words, it's an easy shift, and I think that's the part that's useful. I'm counting on that as this business grows.

It is pretty simple to scale.
Fortigate can manage FortiSwitch, and there are a lot of things that you can do with your FortiGate at configuration. When you have to deploy FortiSwitch, you just need to plug it in, push the configuration from FortiGate, and go.
We are not using FortiSwitch as a company. We have a lot of clients using it. However, we only use FortiSwitch for clients that already have a Fortinet product to have the benefits of the Fortinet fabric. We have about five customers using FortiSwitch.

This solution is scalable. We are a small site running only three switches, but from what I have heard, it's pretty easy to scale because of the looping feature. It uplinks and can automatically be used from your management console. I haven't done a big system, so I don't know what that would be like.
My entire company is running on Fortinet, and we have two people managing the entire environment for over forty users.

There aren't special features that resolve any scalable requirements. There are scalable possibilities with other features of the 4G Gates unit but this is not so scalable.

FortiSwitch can be managed and controlled by FortiGate. The configuration is done on FortiGate. To scale, you just need to purchase some other switches, even they are not really the same model of the one deployed. With two or three clicks, we can scale them to the other switch.
With the university example, where it is not fully functional, there are almost 2000 or 3000 students who are using the access points to access the WiFi, which are connected to the switch.
