Fortinet FortiPortal Initial Setup

I would rate my experience with the initial setup a seven out of ten, where one is difficult and ten is easy to setup.

It's not too bad, but it takes time for fine-tuning and integration with other systems. So, it's more about the fine-tuning and integration than the initial setup itself.

The initial setup of Fortinet FortiPortal is very easy.

Fortinet FortiPortal can be deployed in a day.

In my company, we follow our internal standard operating procedures to deploy various products.

The solution is deployed on an on-premises model.

I rate the ease of setup an eight out of ten. The time taken for deployment depends on the scenarios and configurations needed. The deployment can be done within one to four hours if well-planned.

To deploy the solution on-premises, we must analyze the number of users, the throughput required, and the basic functionalities we need to implement. Depending on the policies, we must do some testing for redundancy. Then, we can implement the solution.

It tends to be more of a SaaS type of offering. Rules are just different in Fortinet, and there is medium complexity with it. It has a fragmented style that I personally find a little bit more difficult. With the rule sets also, you tend to hop around the console a lot more than Palo Alto or ASA.

In terms of maintenance, most of the product side updates are thankfully automated, but where it does become a problem is that because of the volume of rules and the breakup of logs, adding new roles and doing modifications to that are more difficult. It tends to lead to a little bit more rework and a little bit more testing needs than other solutions or environments.

We thought that it might be complicated but it was pretty straightforward. It was quite easy.

It's a basic setup and they customized it a little bit for our particular traffic usage.

It took approximately four hours to install and deploy.

We have an IT team of eight to maintain this solution.
