GitLab Stability

Corné den Hollander - PeerSpot reviewer
Product Owner at a financial services firm with 1,001-5,000 employees

I don't have a strong opinion on that or much experience with that because, in the two companies, we used a self-hosted instance of GitLab where the user base was pretty small with 40 or 50 users. My current client has 300 users, which still is not huge, and we're using a managed hosted server. Its performance is fine. It is not stunning, but fine. I just don't have an insight on how much effort that costs from the hosting party.

We have had no instability issues with GitLab. When it comes to maintenance, we have IT departments that deal with that, and I am not directly involved in the maintenance of the tools themselves so I don't know if it's difficult to maintain or not.

The solution offers good stability. However, sometimes we do see some issues due to upgrades and patches. But a couple of times, we have seen build issues where it takes a long time, or it gets stuck, and people have to manually restart those.

It is a stable solution. Stability-wise, I rate the solution an eight or nine out of ten. Since it is software, they can have some bug-related issues, and no software is 100% protected. GitLab has many features in different areas, so I cannot specify which specific area has a problem.

GitLab's stability is almost always good, but it depends on your connection with the network. If the GitLab services are running properly, and your services and network are fine, then there shouldn't be any problem with stability. There are some wrinkles, but they're around 5-8% and are mostly contained.
