Before Heroku, we were just using straight AWS — for ease of management. 

Previous to this solution I used Yandex Cloud for a short period of time. Heroku is much more convenient for my use case because it does not require any system management like Yandex does.

I rejected Google app engine for there lack of nodejs support, and AWS for the complexity of setting up a simple app.

We did not use a previous solution.
