Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform Other Advice

Head of Infrastructure at a financial services firm with 51-200 employees

I rate Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform a nine out of ten. I highly recommend Hitachi to anyone looking for this kind of storage. If you've worked with any other storage vendors, you will see the difference in performance and technical specifications. The management platform is user-friendly, and the architecture is advanced.

Hitachi is always improving by adding the latest technologies like artificial intelligence. Their technology is far superior to that of competing solutions. Hitachi's research team is doing an excellent job.

A good part is it is scalable. It's reliable. It is both at all. But it does not work well with BusyBox. Even though it supports multiple vendors, some features do not support multiple tenants; they are not vendor-adopting.

For example, bring in a NetApp and try to use it with Hitachi. You'll either have limitations with that application or you'll actually always have to do extra patching. Or the other tricky part that needs to happen.

Overall, I would rate the solution a seven out of ten.

I would rate the Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform ten out of ten.

We have almost 100 customers that use the Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform in our region.

We have 15 people that are certified in the maintenance of the Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform across three offices, south, central, and north regions. The maintenance required is minimal.

Our customers maximize the usage of their Hitachi VSPs by storing their production workloads, archives, and backups on these systems. We are planning to increase the number of customers we have.

I recommend Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform because it is a robust and dependable product that ensures a 100 percent data availability guarantee, thus eliminating any potential concerns for customers.

I would rate the Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform an eight out of ten.

We have independent consultants who conduct market research for us. On the other hand, when we pay for upgrades or renewals, we typically engage two different vendors in the solution: IBM and another vendor.

Our solution provider is Hitachi itself. They own the technology and provide us with assessments. They are a good partner to work with.

I am likely to recommend Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform to others.

We're consulting partners. We work with many different Hitachi customers and partners. We work with design and implementation.

The adaptive data and reduction technology has not helped us reduce our storage footprint, as I am still in the process of understanding the scenarios around that aspect of the product.

I'd rate the solution ten out of ten.

The product has improved our company's data storage scalability aspect, considering that my organization uses Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) E Series. My company uses Hitachi VSP E990 All-Flash NVMe Storage Platform and Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform E1090 for production storage purposes. My company relies on All-NVMe Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform. In our organization, we never faced a performance issue with the product.

The product has improved our company's data retrieval time tremendously since we don't see any performance issues with the tool in our company. My company has not seen any issues with the tool's data retrieval time or response time.

The most valuable feature of the product for our company's data management needs stems from the fact that the tool provides multiple functionalities, like Hitachi HDD drivers. The tool offers in-built encryption, ensuring that data security is available in the solution. My company also gets a good number of compression and data efficiency ratios. My company gets to see a 1:2.5 compression ratio, allowing us to save a lot of space. From a capacity perspective, I see that the product consumption in our company is very high due to multiple workloads running on the boxes from Hitachi. The product offers more capacity than a single box. I have around three petabytes of storage, which is a huge storage capacity.

Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform reliability and uptime support our company's machine-critical applications since the tool offers 100 percent uptime and has never gone down in our company in the last three years.

In terms of performance and ability, the product can stand up against its competitors since the solution offers two controller systems to users. The tool also offers a good performance in comparison to the other products in the market. My company has workloads of variable block sizes. A lot of storage platforms fail when there are variable block sizes, but there is a sustenance level that Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform offers in such scenarios. Instead of considering the differences in block sizes, the product tries to offer a consistent and good performance to users.

The product's integration capabilities with the tools in our company's existing infrastructure are possible. It is very easy to use the integration features of the product. My company tested the product's integration functionalities, and we found that it worked fine in our infrastructure. I think that the product's integration capabilities are convenient and easy to use.

I recommend the product to those who plan to use it, considering that its price-to-performance ratio is very good. The product also offers a good efficiency ratio. The tool's performance is much better in comparison with the other storage platforms in the market.

I rate the product a nine out of ten.

In general, whether you are a partner or a customer, you need to discuss the requirements of the solution, the full scope of the work, including capacity, performance, availability, and scalability, before the sale.

Also, do not undersize your storage. That is something that will kill any solution.

And only apply compression after one or two years, not from the first day of storage. If you are out of capacity and need to buy more storage, the procurement process for extra storage will take a few months, so that is the time to apply compression.

As a partner, we have to connect with a customer after the sale as well. It's not only about the product. It's also about the partner that sold the product working with the customer to make sure they are satisfied, even when there is no problem with the product. If the collaboration and connection are not good, whenever a customer calls, the partner won't respond to their query properly. So it's not just a one-day job. The product could be really good, but if the response time and the way the customer is handled is not good, the customer will not be satisfied. Our customers are satisfied with the Hitachi storage platform.

We don't recommend a single-node implementation. It's very risky. One controller cannot provide a high-availability solution, which is a feature of every storage system these days.

I use Hitachi Command Suite for provisioning. In general, I use products from Hitachi to deal with the different kinds of approaches with my company's customers, which usually includes giving better solutions to customers.

For a single solution, two people or three people, we can maintain it, but it depends. One person cannot look into the maintenance part of the tool for an entire day. The product's maintenance phase depends upon how big the infrastructure is and how many services from the solution are required by a user.

It is an okay solution that is not bad.

I rate the overall solution an eight out of ten.

It is a very flexible solution. If we consider the Hitachi brand with other storage brands, it is on the top of the list. We are very satisfied with its stability, reliability, and affordability.

Any organization deciding to put in place a Hitachi storage solution is doing the right thing. It is probably not the best, but it is absolutely the right solution. They will forget all the problems connected to storage. That's because it works very well, and their support is also very good.

I would rate it an eight out of 10.

I'm using Unity, Isilon, and Hitachi, particularly Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform G Series, actually several different storage solutions and models.

The models of Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform G Series which I have include the G350, G370, G400, and the G600.

Around one thousand people use Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform G Series within my company.

My advice to people looking into using Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform G Series is to look into the product because it's a very good product. It's reliable, but you should also prepare the environment well for the hardware. You should have a good understanding of your needs and why you should go with Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform G Series, and not compare Hitachi with other solutions that aren't comparable to the Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform G Series. You should listen well and understand what the Hitachi sales team is proposing and explaining to ensure that you're buying the product that you need.

My rating for Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform G Series is ten out of ten.

My company is a partner of Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform G Series though it doesn't sell the hardware to end customers. What my company does is buy the hardware from Hitachi, then it offers it as hardware as a service to the customers.

I can't say anything about the product itself that was in need of improvement. The areas where we had issues were more along the lines with support and HDS management. For anybody who is interested in this solution, I would say that from a product standpoint, it is fine. The only problem is the support. Anytime we needed support, it was delayed. I'm not sure of the reason for this, but it just seemed like it took a long time to get things resolved.

At the time we did our RFP, HDS did not have an all-flash offering. They do now, but I haven't had the opportunity to look at their all-flash products. Hopefully, it is not just all-flash thrown into a G 1500 Series because you want to build flash from the ground up.

What we found during our recent RFP was that the pricing is pretty close between all-flash and HDD, so while not everybody needs the performance, if you're getting it for the same price then why wouldn't you take advantage of it?

I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

The Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform F Series are real sturdy machines with high-performance capabilities. I didn't do a POC before choosing the solution, but I did go to visit several customers who already had similar solutions from the company.

I talked to them and got an impression. If you have time for POC it will be better. In the government, it is not very often that we do a POC. They're very thin and human resources didn't have time.

On a scale from one to 10, I would rate the product an eight for the management. The lack of management features on the product is very deflating.

It's very difficult to find this class of machine from other vendors. The storage system is high-availability. The performance is elite.

For the system and performance, this machine is very impressive. It's working 24 hours a day. The machine is very reliable for the user experience.

The F series is a very accurate solution and it does what I want it to do. In the next version, I would like to see additional features like artificial intelligence and an increase in the amount of data it can store. The storage solution should be able to discover the internet force that is coming up so that you can discover them beforehand. The solution should be able to grab information from what the customer has been doing with the environment and then give the customer new solutions.

On a scale of one to ten, my rating is eight.

Day to day, everything changes in the field of IT. I have done a lot of research on products such as this, and I have learned that we are going to have a lot more data in 2020. This huge amount of data means that you need the right platform for processing data quickly. More than before, we need a platform that can process large amounts of data in less than ten milliseconds. One such platform is the Hitachi VSP, with both good performance and availability.

On a scale of one to ten, I rate this solution an eight.

My advice to others who are trying to buy all-flash storage would be to go and take a look at the core storage products. I don't mean the hardware part, I mean the software part, in other words, the data protection layer. The storage layer is a broad layer. You have the main storage, you have the data protection of storage and you have the storage networking. All these layers matter and you will need something in the background on the data protection layer to be able to get the data at the other end.
