Great Global Copy and Global Mirror features with an easy initial setup

What is our primary use case?

We offer it as a Cloud solution to our shared clients and we share these devices between multiple clients. That's how we primarily use the solution. I use it for storing mainframe data. It's used throughout the mainframe applications and the flash copies for DR, as well as replication utilities, to move data from one facility to another. We use just about all the features on it.

Pros and Cons

  • "The Global Copy and Global Mirror features are the solution's most valuable aspects."
  • "The solution should embedded replication switches into the hardware instead of using them externally."

What other advice do I have?

We're just a customer. We don't have a business relationship with the company. I'm an outsourcing service provider and I've had a lot of experience using the solution. We have everything from DS8100 disc storage, all the way up to 8990s. I'd advise new users to read the implementation installation guide. Most of the questions are answered in there. People just tend to skim over it and don't get into the details. However, it's important in making everything run smoothly and understanding the solution. That's probably the best advice I've actually heard from anybody. At the end of the day, don't…

A solid product for high-performance data storage and utilization

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case in our company is as a reseller of the product. We don't have any Hitachi equipment solutions ourselves for production. We sell storage equipment to clients. Popular usage for our clients is for email storage in telecall centers and for high-performance data storage and utilization.

Pros and Cons

  • "The product has great data storage performance with a 100% data security and availability guarantee."
  • "The pricing is high, but the product is good. Additional features like data duplication might make it even better."

What other advice do I have?

My advice to other people considering this solution is that it is a very good product. It has very good stability, it is easy to use, it has a 100% data security and availability guarantee. It is a very, very good solution manufactured by a good company. On a scale from one to ten, where one is the worst and ten is the best, I would rate these products as a ten because they do what we need them to without fail. For us they are perfect.

Its performance is the biggest asset

What is our primary use case?

We use it for block storage.

Pros and Cons

  • "The stability and performance of the drive are the most valuable."
  • "IBM is not always as agile as other competitors when it is about cloud integration and user interfaces. They're not renewing themselves very often. They have been slow to evolve from the old GUI. The user interface should be improved, especially regarding performance analysis, which has always been a little bit weak as compared to other solutions. As a global solution, it lacks the feature for containing integration object storage. Even though they have now started to offer this feature, it is quite young and not as developed as some other vendors. There are also no mass possibilities at all. They have a lot of competition in the mid-range segment. They need to have a NAS gateway or something like that. It doesn't specifically need to be integrated into the controllers that are keys to the gateway."

What other advice do I have?

It is very strong in block storage for the database environment. It has very good quality because the compression, deduplication, and encryption are directly done by the disks, so there is no penalty on the processes of all controllers. If you need a platform that is oriented towards block storage and has features like multi-protocol, cloud integration, and so on, I don't think this is the best solution. It doesn't have direct NAS protocols or things like this. I would rate this solution a nine out of ten, specifically for the needs of block storage. Its performance is very good, which is the…
