What is most valuable?

VM backup and recovery.

How has it helped my organization?

I would like to see Simplivity come out with some sort of Simplivity Engineer certification, which would grant me the ability to handle the more technical issues on my own, without having to call… more»

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Pricing is a little high in my opinion. Prices have climbed consistently since our purchase and install.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

In the past we were running UCS with a NetApp SAN connected via FC. We were ready for a refresh when we saw Simplivity. It looked like a perfect fit.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did an evaluation with Nutanix, but found their data redundancy was not sufficient for us.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously used a different solution. It was not a true HCI.

What other advice do I have?

Be open minded and consider a PoC to run some of your production load. You won't be disappointed.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Before choosing, we evaluated Cisco UCS FlexPod. We also evaluated and did a proof of concept (PoC) of a direct competitor's product after our SimpliVity acquisition. In… more»

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

One must make sure that you understand all the functionality that comes with the solution, and then try to establish the cost of not having these in place!

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Had a traditional Server/SAN setup. Upgrading that turned out to be more expensive than moving over to the new solution.

What other advice do I have?

Apart from being a great product supported by a very skilled and friendly team, it is very sexy, and will give you lots of bragging rights!

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Yes. Looked at expanding the old solution, and also looked at Nutanix.

What do you think of HPE SimpliVity?

What is most valuable?

Seamless backup, quick deployment.

What needs improvement?

SimpliVity requires an arbiter to be installed on a non-virtualized (or at least on non-SimpliVity virtualized) storage. This means you can not totally virtualize your environment on SimpliVity. I would like to see the arbiter on a system that is virtualized and eliminate that external portion.

For how long have I used the solution?

About a year.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

The VAR that helped with deployment did not know that the arbiter could not be virtualized and this lead to problems down the road when installing updates.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

No.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I have not scaled it…
