User-friendly with good documentation and the capability to scale

What is our primary use case?

The solution is primarily a file infrastructure. It contains all the virtual machines for our company.

Pros and Cons

  • "We've found the solution to be very stable so far."
  • "The design is a little old-fashioned and could be updated. The rack is very primitive and designed in an older style."

What other advice do I have?

We are just a customer and an end-user. We are using the latest version of the solution at this point. I'd recommend the solution. Everything is fiber from start to finish. I don't need to use a fiber switch. It's an expensive component. However, IBM says I don't need it and I can do I direct line from my own source. It's a supported solution. It's very good. I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten so far.

Straightforward with good duplication but the replication is a bit complicated

What is our primary use case?

We are using it for Oracle Databases. We're are also using it for VMware and NetBackup. It's one of the storage solutions for NetBackup.

Pros and Cons

  • "The solution offers good stability."
  • "The replicating software is pretty complicated. I probably would have put it on a sequence."

What other advice do I have?

We're just customers. We don't have a business relationship with HPE. Anyone interested in any solution should probably research the software that comes with their own system a little bit better. If you do that, there's a chance that you might not buy some of the things that we bought and that were defaulted on setup. That was not good. Knowing what works together well will help in the long run. Don't be afraid if a third-party asks you questions. They're probably just trying to get to the bottom of how your setup looks. I'd rate the solution six out of ten overall.

Straightforward to set up and it scales well

What is our primary use case?

We are a solution provider and NetApp FAS is one of the infrastructure-related products that we implement for our clients. Our customers' use cases vary, where some of them use it as a backup target and others use it for the general workload. The primary use case is probably for general workload.

Pros and Cons

  • "The most valuable feature is SnapMirror."
  • "If our customer needs a high-performance storage solution then we don't recommend this product."

What other advice do I have?

The suitability of this product depends on the use cases and the environment. For places where we sell it, it fits well. In places where it doesn't fit well, we would typically go with another solution like NetApp All-Flash storage, or something from another vendor. My advice for anybody who is implementing the NetApp FAS series is to make sure that it's the proper fit. Perform a detailed sizing analysis prior to making the purchase. I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Good pricing and works well, but it is old-fashioned and should be replaced with something new

What is our primary use case?

I am working for a reseller and this is one of the solutions that I have experience in dealing with. This is a NAS gateway solution that provides access to storage that is externally attached.

Pros and Cons

  • "The pricing of this solution is good, which is an advantage that positions this product well."
  • "I do not like Hitachi NAS because it's an old-school NAS solution, compared to the other, newer-type solutions such as Isilon from Dell or Qumulo."

What other advice do I have?

It is not possible to improve upon this solution. Rather, they should just create a new product to completely replace this one. Overall, this is a good product for what it is, but it is old-school. I would completely renew the product. It works nicely, but I would not recommend it for the same reason that people don't buy old-fashioned clothes. I would rate this solution a five out of ten.
