What do you think of Oracle Exadata?

Valuable Features Smart Scan HCC • Improvements to My Organization We consolidated 58 databases from 58 standalone servers into 4 RAC nodes (half rack). We achieved HA with RAC, and saved a good amount of storage with the HCC feature. • Room for Improvement Storage License Overall performance • Use of Solution I have used it for 11 months. • Deployment Issues We encountered a few bugs, and migration technical challenges. • Stability Issues We have not yet encountered any stability issues. • Scalability Issues We have not really encountered any scalability issues. • Customer Service and Technical Support Customer Service: Customer service is excellent. What is most valuable?

* It is based on PostgreSQL. * It’s managed. Meaning, AWS takes care of handling infrastructure, deployments, encryption, and uptime for you. * It’s cheap when you consider the price per terrabyte per year. * It’s integrated into the AWS stack.

How has it helped my organization?

At my previous company that does mobile analytics as its core product, we moved all the analytics backend from MongoDB to Redshift. Where I currently work, we use it as our main data lake/data warehouse.

What needs improvement?

While It's probably the best product of its category (managed SQL-based data warehouse at scale), it has a few shortcomings, although very few. The main issue people complain about, and I agree with the claim, is that it's hard to load your... more»

What is most valuable?

Being an appliance, the best features are its analytics and the performance level. The underlying hardware that IBM provides with this appliance is made for a specific purpose, to serve performance on a large amount of data, and to do analytics as well. It is faster, when you compare it to any other product, like Hadoop or DXC Hadoop or Presto on AWS. It's made... more»

What needs improvement?

It really serves its purpose. It meets the need for performance, it meets the need for robustness, and it also serves as a perfect data warehousing appliance. The only issue is that it's not expandable. The new versions of Netezza, they are expandable. They can be on-prem and on the cloud like dashDB from IBM. It replaces the previous Netezza versions.
