What do you think of Oracle VM?

Valuable Features:: We were curious and wanted to test the product since we were standardizing our virtualized environment.  We knew that VMware was feature-rich, and we wanted to look as others as well to avoid vendor lock in. • Use of Solution:: I've been using it for one years. • Initial Setup:: It was complex. • Implementation Team:: We did it in-house. • Pricing, Setup Cost and Licensing:: We were not happy with the aggressive licensing model of Oracle and thought we would end-up in a similar situation to the Database where we have to pay the license fee for passive nodes as well. • Other Solutions Considered:: We selected VMware and KVM. • Other Advice:: The Red Hat KVM is better than the OVM in terms of performance and simple support.

What do you think of Hyper-V?

Improvements to My Organization: We built a private cloud with it. • Valuable Features: Live migration, SMB3. • Room for Improvement: Storage via SMB3. • Stability Issues: Yes. • Scalability Issues: No. • Customer Service and Technical Support: 6 • Previous Solutions: Previously used VMware. Switched due to cost. • Initial Setup: It was reasonably straightforward. • Pricing, Setup Cost and Licensing: It's cheap, but not the best. • Other Solutions Considered: Vmware was better, but it was more expensive. • Other Advice: Don’t use it for mission critical clouds.
