IBM Spectrum Protect is a preventative tool that doesn't directly generate revenue, it's essential for compliance in highly regulated industries. 

When considering the potential costs of data loss or system downtime, investing in IBM Spectrum Protect is a wise decision.

I don't have the metrics on ROI from IBM Spectrum Protect, but mostly, my company switched over to the product because Omniback was no longer adequate.

Using IBM Spectrum Protect meant using fewer tapes versus Omniback because IBM Spectrum Protect could handle bigger tape sizes, while Omniback held three or five-millimeter tape sizes. IBM Spectrum Protect required less storage, so it was mostly good enough to support my company's new backup policy through versioning, encryption, and security.

ROI-wise, I'm scoring IBM Spectrum Protect as seven out of ten.

We are a managed service provider. Backup makes us money. So, the ROI is always there.

Without experiencing a disaster, the need for backup may not be apparent, resulting in no return on investment. However, in the event of a restore or recovery requirement, the return on investment can be as high as one hundred percent. On average, I would estimate it to be around seventy to eighty percent.

We have seen a return on investment with IBM Spectrum Protect because we are guaranteed to have our data when we need it.

The biggest benefit of IBM Spectrum Protect is the migration of legacy workloads to the new version of the product, allowing a user to take ten catalogs to the new version, but in products similar to IBM Spectrum Protect, you don't get such options. With other products apart from IBM Spectrum Protect, you have to get a new installation of the new version done and migrate the data from the previous versions. The beauty of IBM Spectrum Protect is that it gives version-to-version upgrades and allows you to take the complete database of your backup to the new version.

When it comes to data protection and data retrieval, most of the time, the projects that you protect cost money. So just retrieving and protecting these projects are a key value. It's like the insurance in my opinion.

By changing to this solution, we saved not only a lot of license costs, but also 450% storage cost (without space reduction techniques) + 450% additional using space reduction techniques

We think we are seeing an ROI after 24 months.

Not sure. But it has saved us from data loss many times.

With backup solutions, you never see a return on investment.

Regarding retro-compatibility of the product between versions, your data is always available and the ROI is unquestionable. Also, the different license models can give good benefits to the end customer.

My company is a bank. As part of meeting the auditing requirements for banks, we use IBM Spectrum Protect. It can encrypt the backups as well, which helps us to meet our legal requirements for banking. We are seeing a return on investment.

Increase RPO, and reduce RTO.

We can now be sure that we have a valid insurance, and has used this several time to restore individual objects which help our implementation of new products etc..
