My company is a system integrator for IBM DataPower Gateway and other solutions in Hungary. My company also provides customer-side consultancy for some projects, particularly providing expertise for customer deployments and other related areas.

Just a few people use IBM DataPower Gateway within my company. There's a team of ten people that covers other solutions and competency levels as well. Only one or two people utilize IBM DataPower Gateway full-time.

What I'd tell others who want to implement IBM DataPower Gateway is that it's a reliable product.

My rating for IBM DataPower Gateway is nine out of ten. Technically, it's okay. It's only the price point that needs improvement because it's a bit expensive in some cases.

My company is an IBM partner.

We are a gold partner with IBM. DataPower Gateway is quite cool but API Manage needs to be more stable. Without testing, they released the product into the market. This is what we have observed. Sometimes, even small features in the big product do not work.

I would rate this product an eight out of ten.

I recommend the solution to enterprise companies. It is an excellent product if you have to set it up on the cloud. Although, hosting it on the existing cloud is complicated. I rate it as an eight.

The previous CIO in IBM wanted to move away from DataPower Gateway. We are currently using ACE Platform because it does the bulk of the workload and Connect Direct. IBM was wondering why they were having IBM DataPower Gateway if they also have Connect Direct to do file transfers. They are currently re-evaluating the situation.

I would recommend the solution to others.

I rate IBM DataPower Gateway a nine out of ten.

I would recommend working on the physical appliance and not the virtual one. Consider the licensing aspect, and try to evaluate it three to five years ahead.

Also, look closely at the competition as there are now quite a few good competitors, and make sure the features suit you best.

I would rate IBM DataPower Gateway an eight out of ten.

Improvements have already been made to the solution. For example, we wish to use the virtual version of the DataPower next year and will likely do so with all of our applications within a few years.

When it comes to the deployment, we use the appliance version of the product with IBM DataPower. Yet, with other applications, are cloud-based.

I rate IBM DataPower Gateway as a nine out of ten.

If you've got it, you should use it. If you haven't got it, you probably should be looking at newer products such as SnapLogic.

It's a high-speed device. If you need an appliance on-premise, that would be the way to go. If you need to migrate something that's on-premise to the cloud, you could go to the virtual. If you're doing something new, you probably wouldn't touch it.

We are planning to move away from IBM to use a different system for a number of reasons including security concerns, authorization, authentication and to save costs for the organization.

I would recommend those considering using this solution to get a partnership with IBM rather than being a regular customer. It is also important to build the required skill sets for employees within an organization.

I would rate this solution a six out of ten.

While I don't have the specific version number on hand, I know that we are using one of the latest releases.

We hardly work with the DataPower part. It's only whenever we use it as an ESB; it supports the design features of an ESB.

I'm pretty neutral on the product. I would not discourage or encourage others from using it. I don't use it too much myself.

I'd rate the solution at a seven out of ten.

I worked with the solution at my previous company. I'm not sure which version of the solution we were using.

I'd advise companies considering the solution to ensure they have some well-trained professionals to administrate the product. However, it is quite easy to architect the solution.

I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten.

It is a good solution. It's more expensive compared to competitors. IBM charges more for its products. Anybody can use it as their security device and as their multi-protocol handling device. It is compatible with IBM products.

I would rate it a seven out of ten.

In the next update, I would like to see better development features and more scripting options.
