I think the software is quite good, but we have had problems with getting it to recognize certain areas and amend certain checks, where we needed so we would have to create backend scripts for those checks.

Though, being open source, it has the support to create backend scripts, it would be better to have these scripts in-built.

The user interface should be improved. Classic UI had more possibilities and detailed analytics. The newer one doesn’t have many functionalities. 

The clustering setup could be made easier.

The installation and configuration are very complex.

I'd like the product to add notification features into the offering.

We have found some problems with Nagios, and support isn't very responsive. When they are responsive, they tell us that they don't know how to solve the problem. I understand that can happen when you're using an open source product and not paying for support, so you can't get an SLA.

One thing that Icinga lacks is the capability to create advanced and customized dashboards within the tool itself. I've worked with various infrastructure monitoring, APM monitoring, and network monitoring tools, and I find that Icinga's built-in dashboard feature is not as robust and visually appealing as those found in different APM tools. To achieve eye-catching and flashy graphs for management or summary purposes, we often need to rely on external tools like Kibana or Tableau and integrate them with Icinga. Improving the dashboard functionality within Icinga would be a significant advantage. However, it may not seem like a major concern, but having an internal solution for dashboards would be beneficial.

The second aspect I'd like to address is that Icinga is relatively new in the market. As a result, there are instances where we encounter situations that act as blockers, and we struggle to find a solution. In such cases, seeking help from professional experts or the support system becomes necessary, as comprehensive troubleshooting documentation is still lacking. While I believe this will improve over time as Icinga becomes more established, currently, it's not as robust as other tools in this regard.

So, these two areas could be improved. The first one, regarding dashboards, could be considered a crucial aspect to understand and enhance, while the second one is something that should naturally improve as Icinga gains more traction in the market.

I didn't have a problem with Icinga since I just use it for monitoring purposes. I haven't faced any issues with Icinga to date, and I think that it is a good solution. Right now, in my company, Icinga is a tool that falls under the testing phase.

The tool currently fails to provide notifications to users. In the future, I want the tool to provide notifications via mail, SMS, or some other medium once an action occurs in the product, especially when something major happens or when one of Icinga's services gets stopped.

Development is needed between APIs, Icinga, and the Enterprise. 

One of the areas that are frustrating is remote monitoring for more than one machine. If I have two machines, an X and a Y, and I would like monitors from machine Y, I would have to log into Machine Y and run a separate service. Icinga does not provide this service. It is implemented manually, not automated.

Icinga uses the latest plugins, it does not have its own plugins.

That database monitoring also requires a plugin that is offered with Nagios plugins. The Nagios plugins only monitor the past checks from the database. I would be happy to see more plugin features added.

Also, with the CSV importing, you can import the monitors to our CSV files, unfortunately, this feature did not work for me, it needs to be improved. 

More market awareness of the event handler is needed.

In the next release, I would like to see more plugins, that is number one, more records, and a better dashboard. If they could implement or automate a new dashboard using some colours it would make it easier to navigate through. Icinga dashboard is comparable with other solutions on the market in regards to the dashboard, they are all the same. The users who are monitoring only use the dashboard before they know the features, they don't have the experience.

We can write scripts using Tomcat and Java to make it as a plugin and run it, but it would be better to have more plugins available. The more plugins, the better.

The API between admin and everything for continuous integrations and continuous delivery needs to be improved.

I would like to see some log monitors in the next release. Nagios had some plugins to monitor logs but it did not work for me.

The user experience – in terms of the usability of the application – could be improved. Another important thing is to work on a better tactical overview. 

Icinga should also be updated with the latest cloud capabilities. I don't know whether it does the monitoring of containers, but that would definitely be something important to hone in on. 

In general, the product does not look good. However, it does what it is supposed to do. So, the improvements should focus on usability and UI.

The modern Web GUI Icingaweb2, a separate product, though, has some issues when displaying data (such as downtimes). There are edge cases where it seems like the displayed data is not consistent.

In addition, in my personal opinion, Icingaweb2 should get a more structured design. Sometimes, it is very hard to keep an overview of what's happening.

A lot of things could be improved because it has a lack of dashboards, no detailed information for reporting, no information for the audit purposes that we can send, no information about the configuration management, and very little inventory information. It is barely serving a purpose.

Trap SNMP. I saw the documentation for Zabbix, that it has its own built-in product which handles SNMP traps, and there's nothing similar in Icinga or Nagios. I think this feature is most important for me.
