Imperva SecureSphere Database Security Other Solutions Considered
I tried Oracle Audit Vault, but the solution wasn't as mature in terms of core database security because it doesn't integrate well with other vendors. Vault works well with Oracle solutions, but there are limitations when you want to use other types of databases. It's a bit of a problem.
Oracle's data encryption is far superior to Imperva's, but they are not very responsive, and pricing is through the roof. That requirement would cost close to a million dollars.

Have compared the solution to IBM. Previously, I was an IBM customer, and IBM would take maybe a week to have a good configuration.
With Imperva, it's very easy to configure. It's very easy to get the reports. The reports are coming fast, and you are saving a lot of money if you send the logs to Splunk since Splunk charges per alert. In the Imperva solution, instead of sending tons of alerts, it is consolidating everything. It helps me save money with Splunk.

Normally, in this region, clients look at McAfee and Oracle security solutions first because of recognition. Our suggestions are normally to compare Imperva and Oracle. Clients like the reputation of Oracle because it has a large footprint and is proven in areas like databases and applications. Sometimes clients try to build database security strictly around Oracle Technology without considering other options. They are often surprised what Imperva has to offer as the name is less familiar.

We did a comparison between Imperva and IBM Guardium before making the switch. The comparison was based on two things: auditing the databases and monitoring user privileges. These two features were offered by both solutions, so we were just left to evaluate based on the difference in prices.

We're currently looking to move away from Imperva. We're considering Audit Vault.

Before choosing Imperva, we did evaluate other options including IBM Guardian Data Protect and also Oracle Audit Vault. In the end, we finally made the choice to go with Imperva first of all because they are a company that is very much into digital security. Security is the central focus of their business, so that is one of their strong areas. Then their product support is one of the best. The solution is very advanced in terms of comparing their available resources and training to other companies. These resources make it a very complete solution.

Yes, Guardium.

View full review »We did evaluate many software solutions & IT service providers, but none of them were close to meeting our project objective. We had a vast inventory of 5000+ databases, hosting data for thousands of applications, each having different schema & naming conventions. We did a Proof of Technology (PoT) in-house using the Imperva DAM module and, with a few tweaks, it met our project needs. Considering we were already using Imperva for different security assessments, it was an easy decision to add on the Database Assessment module and use that in our infrastructure.
