    What is most valuable?

The biggest feature for ODI is the fact that it uses the power of the source or target database to actually perform the ETL processing. So a typical data integration tool might have its own ETL engine, and that would be an additional server, additional costs, something else you have to maintain. ODI actually has the ability to create and generate code that runs... more»

    What needs improvement?

One thing that is included, and it's going to improve, is the integration with a configuration management tool. Right now, they integrate with Subversion. And we know in the future, there's going to be more tools implemented there for configuration management and some new features there. So right now, it's kind of one of those features that, it's been released,... more»

    What is most valuable?

    * Metadata-based architecture * Ability to prototype solutions quickly * Automated documentation * Great performance

How has it helped my organization?

The biggest win for my organization are the great improvements we have seen in load / refresh processing time over our legacy ETL tool. I was skeptical of the ELT architecture going into our Proof of Concept with WhereScape. I had believed... more»

    What needs improvement?

I would love to see a GUI interface for defining dependencies between build processes. RED provides a spreadsheet like interface for defining the dependencies between builds. Once the dependencies are defined, RED can produce a nice... more»

What do you think of SSIS?

Sql Server Integration Services (SSIS) 2016 Review Summary SSIS 2016 - the Good the Bad, and the Ugly SSIS is a unique ETL tool for a number of reasons. Most shops already own it but may treat it as a one-off free utility rather than as an enterprise ETL tool even though it can compete with the best of ETL tools. Some of the lack of respect is due to immature beginnings in its former "DTS" days. And some of it is because it comes bundled with Sql Server and does not normally run (but can) on a separate ETL server.  It can't be good if its free right?  Especially when competitors easily charge 6 figures for  their tools. Don't we get what we pay for?  My answer is, generally yes but this may be an exception worth noting. SSIS has become extremely flexible, extensible...

    What is most valuable?

You can put data together from a few databases into one database or the other way, from one database into several. It transforms data in real-time. In my experience, it is able to transform a large amount of data within a few seconds.

How has it helped my organization?

If you have one environment that is for some application and it has a lot of data, and you need this information not only for the application but also for a warehouse - to do some analytics later - you just transform all that data to the... more»

    What is most valuable?

It provides the power of an ETL tool but packaged as a Java app without needing any custom product setup. This has helped us handle several of our data integration/migration needs (including the ones needed for our in-house products), without... more»

How has it helped my organization?

It improved productivity compared to lot of custom SQL data integrations done before, and at a very low cost. Its HTML document generation feature has helped us ensure documentation of all the ETL code.

    What needs improvement?

The open-source version has obviously fewer features compared to the enterprise edition. Specifically, the scheduler, rules engine, etc., are really not available, but these are nice-to-have's for a general ETL development where organizations... more»
