What is our primary use case?

We are using Jamf Pro for iOS devices and macOS devices.

How has it helped my organization?

This product is very useful in the terms of creating and protecting security norms. Our security norms are very strict and this product is fulfilling all those requirements. For example, in macOS, we don't allow users to enable the root account. We have disabled it. We have disabled it with the help of a script. However, if users enable it, we have the script in place which automatically disables it again. This is the feature which I like most. This is one example of how it has allowed us to gain control within our organization. 

What is most valuable?

The policies by which we can trigger something based on some action have been very useful. The action and trigger is the main thing for us. We like the kind of repetitive script which we can use there.

What needs improvement?

With respect to the improvement there, since we are using AirWatch also if I compare both of these products, I would say that we are like an incentive. Sensors are something in the repetitive script. It checks the device if something changes on the device. As soon as something changes on the device, it triggers that thing. Now, this is already available in Jamf however, we find this functionality is more robust in AirWatch as compared to Jamf.

The solution only makes sense if you have a lot of macOS products in your company.

There are some hiccups here and there, however, that is true of any product.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for more than two and a half years. 

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable. We haven't had issues with bugs or glitches. it's reliable and the performance has been good. 

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability is great. I would rate it 4.5 out of five. 

We have around 40,000 on the solution currently. Users are varied. It's everyone from the CEO and CIO to CEO normal users, salespersons, marketing persons, et cetera.

We do not plan to increase usage at this time. 

How are customer service and support?

Our team handles all of the troubleshooting. I've never been in touch with technical support. From my team members, I've never heard anything beyond sometimes answers getting delayed, however, they always seem eager to help.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Earlier, the solution we were using was MobileIron. MobileIron Is almost the same. However, among the two solutions, Jamf is the market leader. That's why we thought we'd go with the Jamf and then try it out.

How was the initial setup?

I would rate the implementation process four out of five in terms of ease of deployment. It's not a new environment. Although it was new enrollment, we moved from MobileIron to Jamf. And the migration was smooth. The implementation was also smooth. 

First, we did the POC. Then, we implemented the same settings, et cetera, whatever we had in the MobileIron. We implemented those things in Jamf. After that, we just moved the users from the pilot phase and started the rollout for the business users.

In terms of the term that handles deployment and maintenance, initially during the implementation, as we have to manage both environments, MobileIron's and the Jamf's, the number of team members were around seven or eight. Now, we have dropped down to four.

What about the implementation team?

While Jamf and Apple did help us a bit, we handled the implementation ourselves in-house without a consultant or integrator. 

What was our ROI?

I have not seen a direct ROI. 

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I cannot speak to the exact costs of the solution. 

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated Intune also. However, Intune at the time was not the market leader. That was around late or mid-2019. At that time, Intune was not very mature as compared to Jamf. We were using AirWatch also. We evaluated AirWatch and Intune along with the Jamf.

What other advice do I have?

I'm not sure which version of the solution we're using.

In my organization, we have lots of Mac devices. I always give the advice to my colleagues or my friends that if you have more Mac devices, then definitely go with Jamf, however, if you're not using Mac devices and you have fewer iOS devices it may not make sense. 

I'd rate the solution nine out of ten. It is a solid product.

What is our primary use case?

We use it so that managing developers for Macs and software developers that need to have freedom but align that need with BAFIN-controlled regulations.

We have had Workspace One previous to the actual MDM Solution for iOS devices in place. It is horrible to set up and to work with in terms of building policies and configurations. 

We chose JAMF as our vendor to get something new and to help with setups. 

Jamf is intuitive. The biggest benefit is the Jamf Nation where all IT Professionals who love to help each other can get together. 

How has it helped my organization?

There is no step three, which says everything. We ship the device to the customer and he sets it up easily at home. It was great during Covid and gave the users an easy start. 

Having less effort in onboarding new employees and providing them a great and one-of-a-kind start with their work equipment was useful. Only one person is needed to manage and support about 400 users. We need less people to provide support compared to the quote we have had for our Windows Fleet. We created an in-house macOS Community who are helping each other as well. 

What is most valuable?

It's lightweight yet the best MDM Solution - with options to expand (Jamf Cloud, Jamf Protect, etc.) 

Jamf Pro works great for us in an on-prem environment. We have full control on the other side when we go for new versions. Of course, this means additional effort to prepare the steps and the updates. The integration with Jamf Protect (test trial version) is as easy as can be. 

Jamf Pro is offering an easy start to work. It offers professionals an endless amount of possibilities to keep users and the company happy.

What needs improvement?

The dashboard needs to be customizable. The SelfService design should be customizable as well or at least should look like the actual OS. There should be some UX designers to take a look and work on the usability and the picture Jamf is looking like for customers (SelfService Design) and the Admins (Jamf Dashboard).

We'd like to have a map where we can spot where Smart or Static Groups are set as Scope. Scripts should have a check before you can upload them or put them into a policy - to check if there is no endless loop inside or some dangerous code.

I've used the solution for over four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There has been no downtime until now in more than four years so far. Only when we were updating the Jamf Versions and patching our Windows Servers did we have to worry about that. 

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability is easy. You just put more CPU and RAM into your VMs and you can scale up without touching the whole system.

How are customer service and support?

When you need support, which happens very rarely, you get fast and quick help.

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution for MacOS device management in an environment of over 2500 devices that are found around the globe.   

How has it helped my organization?

It has completely enabled us to have a remote deployment solution for our users across the globe, as well as full management of the devices like we've never had before. It's also given us the power to let the users service their own devices via the Self-Service portal, extremely minimizing the amount of service calls our support teams to get now. 

Its also given us insight into how the devices are used on a day-to-day basis, allowing us to trim our available catalog and tailor the devices we deploy to their actual needs.

What is most valuable?

The self-service portal to share scripts and other tasks that have extremely minimized the need for calls to our support teams, or even sharing the applications we package and allowing users to pick and choose what apps they need or want, instead of just blanket installing everything from our old environment. 

Also, the DEP enrollment process is great. Account creation and management of the SSO extensions have made it so the devices no longer require to be AD Bound, giving us the flexibility to have local accounts and really utilize the full extent of MacOS.

What needs improvement?

Inventory reporting could be better, however, that is already slated to improve with some of the new features Apple has announced in WWDC 2022. 

Managing the devices and getting their details is too much work to accomplish, but by using the API and some externally available and free tools, we've been able to get the data we need whenever we need it in a way that is more presentable to management and upper leadership. With the improvements coming down the road from Apple though, a lot of it will be much more seamless.

I've used the solution for over three years in my current role, however, I've worked inside of the product elsewhere since 2011.

What is our primary use case?

We use Jamf Pro to manage our Apple devices throughout our worldwide locations in both our offices and manufacturing factories. 

We deploy both iOS and macOS devices such as iPhones, iPads, Macs, and Apple TVs. 

Jamf Pro is essential to our IT and InfoSec teams. It is used to deploy applications, update software versions, and offer patch management. We also set restrictions or push custom applications via configuration profiles and policies depending on department and role. 

Jamf Pro inventory updates are also essential for meeting our metrics and security goals & standards.

How has it helped my organization?

Jamf Pro has improved our organization by offering a bird's eye view of our Apple devices. We are able to monitor our assets and ensure they are up-to-date, compliant, secure, and being used as intended. 

Jamf Pro does a great job of staying out of the way of the end user while remaining very hands-on for admins at the helm. 

Jamf Pro is very quick in the way it reacts to the device in question. Even for actions that have a large scope, Jamf works very quickly - almost in real-time. 

Thanks to Smart Groups and patch management, a lot of the work being done is via a hands-off approach.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable aspect of the solution is speed. As opposed to other management solutions we use or have used, Jamf Pro is instant. I can deploy an application, restriction, script, patch update, etc. in real time and monitor the results. Nothing comes close to the ease of use of Jamf Pro. Our non-Apple devices are managed by InTune. When compared side by side to Jamf Pro, it's easy to see why Jamf is so well-loved in the Mac Admins community. Rather than having no ETA, or a window of 15 minutes to 15 hours, you can rely on Jamf to work as expected in a short or instant timeframe.

What needs improvement?

We use Installomator for patch management. Installomator is a massive curl script that grabs the latest available download for an application and installs silently. We are using Installomator for all applications it currently supports.

For patch management in Jamf, two Smart Groups are required as patch policies cannot be scoped as of now. This is not a major issue, as there is a great workaround by using a wrapped "member of" duplicate Smart Group.  However, being able to avoid two Smart Groups for patch management would be nice.

Jamf Pro has been in our organization for five years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is easy to add licenses if need be. We have added many iOS devices over the years quite easily.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously used AirWatch. This was before my time at my current organization. I am glad we made the switch to Jamf Pro.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Jamf Pro is worth the cost. You will certainly find the value once you use it every day and try to imagine your role without Jamf.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have taken meetings with Kandji and tested devices through demos. Jamf Pro is still the preferred MDM for Apple devices in my opinion.

We use the product in a higher education environment that was completely unmanaged before Jamf. We have 8,000 devices in total that are now being gradually enrolled.

How has it helped my organization?

It's allowed us to manage our fleet and patch management. It has secured our devices and connected with our Mac users like never before.

What is most valuable?

The self-service is invaluable to the user. It's somewhere that the user to go and get institutional resources like software, bookmarks, or IT tools to help them.

What needs improvement?

Jamf needs to get an inbuilt remote support tool to allow the admin to remote into machines. At present, you can use third-party remote apps, however, a Jamf one would be better. Currently, Jamf allowed for TeamViewer integration, however, TeamViewer is very expensive these days and not worth the money they now charge.

I've been using Jamf since August, and I'm hugely impressed by the level of detail you can configure.

We previously used Intune, which was not good enough for Macs.

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution to manage all of our Apple devices. We are a K12 School in New Zealand that have over 3000+ students and 400+ staff that all use and learn from Apple devices.

Being a K-12 School we have over 50+ packages in our Jamf instance that get deployed and managed. It's also important for us, as, being a school, we needed to protect both teachers and students. Jamf offers many security features - one being SSO with Microsoft Azure - which helps students and staff log into all their resources with ease while protecting our staff and students' privacy.

How has it helped my organization?

As our number of students grew and grew, staffing also grew, which means more and more devices. Apple has been the vast majority of devices in the school, including BYOD devices. We had to move to a more modern management system that would be easy and gave us future features and protection. Jamf was the solution! We migrated and moved all our packages, software, and scripts from Munki (an open-source local solution) to Jamf and got to work on improving and using the more modern features that both Apple and Jamf offered.

What is most valuable?

The Automated Device Enrolment is great! It is, by far, the very best feature! After a year of testing and perfecting the Jamf we got it to a point where each device is now zero-touch deployment. It's been saving the IT department so much more time and effort. Our Helpdesk tickets dropped about 40% - making it easier for us to focus on more important tasks.

Another great feature is just being readily available in the cloud. Moving from on-prem to cloud made deployment so much easier. We no longer needed the staff to come into the school just to install Microsoft Office or any updates that piled up.

What needs improvement?

One feature or improvement that would be awesome is some sort of mobile app from Jamf that can be used to alert admins of custom alerts or even an option when creating or editing a Smart Computer Group or Smart Mobile Group, to select App Notification as well as email notification when the group has changed. For example, over the weekend I'm not checking work emails. However, if a device over the weekend is out of date or needs attention, then the app could notify me and I could action it.              

For how long have I used the solution?

We've used the solution for six years - since 2016.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We've never had any issues, server loss or down time. Jamf always organized server upgrades after work hours or in the weekends so it didn't affect any devices.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Jamf has come a very long way since I first started using it in 2016 and Apple has a lot to do with that. The Jamf community and Apple community have grown in the past 3 years and there's a reason for that - a lot more businesses are implementing Apple devices. 

How are customer service and support?

Over the past 6 years, I've only had to contact customer support twice and each time I got a resolution! Jamf customer service always keeps me updated and never left me in the dark.

We used an open-source tool called Munki and we made the switch due to the fact that it started to become unreliable. You couldn't update it off-site and it lacked security (especially unsigned packages).

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward as we had everything already prepared. However, it was also complex as there were a few differences between what I was used to and what Jamf is.

What about the implementation team?

We handled the implementation in-house.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I understand Jamf isn't the cheapest solution out there, however, it is by far the best bang for your buck! You get what you pay for, basically. Jamf is always ready whenever Apple makes changes, and, for 6 years straight, there has never been any downtime or server failures.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did evaluate other options, however, I knew plenty of people in the Mac Admin communities that spoke highly of Jamf Pro.

What is our primary use case?

Jamf is the best available MDM solution for Apple devices and there is no comparison in the market. 

I have been using Jamf services for years and am happy to say that Jamf welcomes more and more capability to its product line.

There is also zero-day support to all new Apple OS.  

I would recommend Jamf to you if you need solutions for software delivery, hardware and software inventory and its usage, cloud-based services, role-based administration and audit reports, cross-platform support, its ease of use, simplification, automation, integration and patch management

We would also take some time to look at additional product cycles around Jamf Pro, including Jamf Connect and Jamf Protect. Jamf Connect is a cloud-based solution that streamlines Mac authentication and identity management. Jamf Protect is an endpoint protection solution built exclusively for Mac devices.

How has it helped my organization?

Jamf brings the best MDM solution along with the best end user experience. As a product, it is best in class. I like the product overall, including its services like policy for deployment of apps, scripts, integrations, or configuration profiles which gives you granular control allowing you to make sure the device is compliant with respect to OS hardening standards. 

Jamf Service empowers the users with the self-help capability to install, uninstall, or reinstall an application on their own - along with Quick Link Bookmarks or ebooks and its seamless integration with Mac App Store apps. I see Jamf as a robust product with a high amount of customisation, integration, and automation. It has a very big and ever increasing community which is always there to help you.

What needs improvement?

Every Product line or service has some issue. What is important for me is how soon they can provide a fix as this will reduce the overall impact in my environment. At times we see Product Issues (PI) in Jamf Pro - namely bugs - however, Jamf support is good at fixing the issue, and if they do not have any immediate fix then at least they provide a workaround until we have a fix available from Jamf. 

The patch management needs improvement in Jamf Pro. That said, I can see it in the roadmap.

We didn't have any previous MDM solution as robust as Jamf Pro.

What is our primary use case?

We use Jamf Pro to manage our devices in an education-based environment. We chose Jamf Pro over Jamf School as we needed the extra features it provided. 

All our teaching staff has been issued Apple devices, and we manage these through Jamf. 

All our classrooms have Apple devices to enhance teaching throughout the campus. It's a lot easier to push apps and manage devices through smart groups and overall helps the IT department focus on other challenges around the school.

Managing IT in a schooling environment is challenging at times, yet, with Jamf, we are able to have more control over our staff, students, and admin users.

How has it helped my organization?

I have been using Jamf Pro for a few years now, and I'm impressed with its functionality and ease of use. The platform offers great features for managing Apple devices within our organization, from Macs and iPads to iPhones. The interface is straightforward and intuitive, and the support team has been very responsive whenever we needed help.

The ability to automate tasks, deploy software, and configure settings across all our devices has made our IT team more efficient, saving us time and resources. Jamf Pro also provides excellent security features to help us protect our devices and data.

Overall, I highly recommend Jamf Pro for any organization that wants a reliable and comprehensive solution for managing their Apple devices.

What is most valuable?

We love the smart groups as they allow us to save time. There are many changes to systems at our school, and this has proven to be reliable in keeping up with them. We also love the ability to remotely manage devices by rebooting them.

One feature we love is the zero-touch deployment. There is no need for IT to touch the devices before we hand them over to the users. They are set up to their correct security groups. Users get all the apps they need and have a great customized welcome when setting up their accounts.

What needs improvement?

Training should be more accessible and cheaper. I completed my Jamf 200, and it was a fantastic experience. More users should be able to experience this to see the power behind Jamf and all the features they provide. Perhaps not for admins but for regular users, training is needed as well so that they can easily know how to manage and navigate through the self-service.

The next Jamf Pro update should include a feature for staff members to update their contact details and departments if needed.
