JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Room for Improvement

Sydney Chidambaram - PeerSpot reviewer

They need to improve the planning section of Enterprise One.

They need to improve the logs and need to write some sort of script that clears logs after so many days.

There need to be proper error codes. The red alerts need to be explained a bit better. Te yellow alerts are fine.

The product planning feature need improvement.

There needs to be more functional.

The sales forecasting needs to be improved.

It is expensive.

I would like more features to come to the cloud. We'd like to have the option to mix the old technology with EnterpriseOne. That means you can take some help from your existing solution, like World, take user infrastructure, and build EOne on top of that. For example, right now, we are not using it as a financial ledger. However, we are likely going to. It would be ideal if we could move the World ledger right into EOne.

From the operation perspective, it could offer more functionality for the APIs.

We are currently working on the new version of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne as we are currently involved in four different industries. Our focus is on optimization, and with this new version, we hope that using the solution, we succeed at integrating AI to help with tracking and addressing. We are also working with a group of companies that we have invested in and have new deals with, and we want to be able to provide information through dashboards using AI and BI, using the solution. Additionally, we are exploring the use of blockchain technology to ensure that not only our investments but also our clients have access to market information and understand how everything is working.

In terms of weaknesses, I can say that the product has no problems since it can be easily deployed.

Instead of considering adding additional things to the overall app, it is good to add a financial path and general ledger since that is what is mostly used here.

The only issue with the solution that it yet to consider improvements in its price.

JD Edwards EnterpriseOne is more of a legacy solution because most of the competitors are or have moved to the cloud. It would be beneficial if there was a cloud version available. Additionally, the interface could improve.

The solution can be improved by including a built-in data warehouse and BI functionalities. So the end user could report by themselves, depending on the IT. Currently, the solution has many good features, but the issue is that people need to be very well-trained and have the right resources to do any work. For example, if you want to make a new system out of it for your business, you need to have a specialist and an architect available. In addition, some specialized resources are required for each module, which is sometimes difficult.

It's all in the way that end-users are able to make reports. The more that's flexible, the better it is. In JD Edwards, it's the reports that you get standard. Then the user has to deal with that and if he's not satisfied with it, well, then that's tough luck, so to say. The reporting has to be flexible or it will turn the end-user off.

I'm not sure if there are any missing features. The last thing we worked with was Orchestrator and that was something that could be of great value. Orchestrator will prove to be the solution for many problems. At the moment, there isn't something that I would say that we're all waiting for it. On the other hand, they should make more noise on the Orchestrator, as there are not many people who know what it is and what it can do, and what it can mean for new implementations, or old ones.

The solution is already pretty refined. If they can continue to do so, it will continuously get better.

We’d like to see technical support integrated within the application so that it is not required to raise additional incidents or do manual outreach to support. We can reduce the manual process for technical support by having it within the solution itself. That would be easier than sending tickets.

They are trying to provide one-view reporting. They have the interface with Hubble and other reporting, however, we just want that to be a part of JD Edwards. They should have the reporting, the financial reports, however, right now, people use other software. They take on third-party software, like Hubble. It's an Oracle product only. They interface with JD Edwards.

During our procurement centralization project, we noticed that the EDI interface is slightly complicated. Certain fields are insignificant, but we have to enter information into those fields because the system would not proceed further without those inputs. So, the EDI interface should be improved. The Fixed Asset module is not desirable because it is complicated.

Though the solution has a lot of good features, I do not like the dashboard. If VA tools can be integrated into the solution, it will be helpful for key decision-makers in the organization, like CFOs and CIOs. Currently, these decision-makers rely on a separate VA tool to obtain information.

I would like the user experience to be more user-friendly. The current reporting system is not good; the only options are to export to PDF and Excel. We found that the system was unable to address many of our concerns, especially when it comes to project management. We actually found it to be quite hard to use and to lack user-friendliness, which is the reason we decided to move.

While the overall function for providing coverage is good, the way the system works turned out to be a bit difficult. Efficiency was an issue, as well as user-friendliness. Something which would take five minutes in a standard ERP, takes 10 with the solution. The method of handling the entire transactions should be greatly simplified.

When it comes to scalability, a much larger team is needed to handle the system than would otherwise be the case with an SAP solution.

The solution is really expensive.

If used properly, one can see a return on his investment. If not, it will cost a person a lot of money. It's that simple.

I have worked with technical support and it actually involves two types of consultants, one technical and the other functional. The technical requirements, such as coding, which comprise the backend, should have more people involved for delivering what is needed.

I would like to see the HR features enhanced with respect to localization for South Africa and other countries. They have perhaps 12 localizations but I think that for countries like South Africa, where the payroll system is unique, they should start investing more heavily.

I would like to see more training documentation, or alternatively, training that you can do without having to go offsite. Unfortunately, when training with Oracle, it is quite expensive. Also, the instructors come from India and the dialect is very difficult for people from South Africa to understand. Consequently, a lot of people feel that it's a waste. It could have been very good but they didn't understand what the trainer was saying. This is a big thing that I would like to see more with. The documentation that they have is good, but it's very expensive so people would rather not buy it.

JDE E1 Technical - Senior Consultant at a tech services company with 201-500 employees

Oracle has introduced Orchestrator as a new technical tool in the most recent upgraded version.

I didn't get much experience working on this Orchestrator, but I did watch some tutorials and do some exercises on my own. And, to be honest, I don't have such an environment for orchestration development. That is something I need to look into, study, and have peace of mind about. Aside from that, there are some technical tools introduced by Oracle that I have not worked on. I have a lot of 1V reporting. 1V reporting is a type of interactive reporting tool that Oracle has introduced in JD Edwards EnterpriseOne.

In a nutshell, Orchestrator is the primary technical tool on which I would like to focus my efforts.

The tools we use for data transformation from Legacy to JD Edwards EnterpriseOne are inbound and outbound from JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. Most of us as technical people believe that the suite processors or EDI processors introduced by JD Edwards EnterpriseOne and Oracle are more reliable when compared to the most advanced tools for business development orchestration, such as JDeveloper. Because the objective of using it is the same, it's for data transformation.

We believe that the older features or tools provided by Oracle are more reliable than the new ones. If you ask me, I would prefer to stick with the older tools that we use for data transformation because they are more reliable.

The implementation phase is critical. If that is done correctly, it will be a 10 out of 10.
That is a very important part, as it is the first stage when you buy this product. If the product has been successfully implemented, you will receive a score of 10 out of 10. The implementation procedure could be simplified. Then there's customization, product customization, as well as customization for your business environment. That can be counted separately, not all at once.

I have found a couple of bugs in my career, but more often it's just a missing functionality or inconsistent interface. I think their Transportation Management module, that's one of the bolt-ons that we have, is very limited. That would probably be my main complaint. We had to buy another solution to address that.

I'm part of the TechSig and I thought it was kind of funny that the top thing on our TechSig list is to bypass the OK button because every time you run a report, it comes up to the "do you want to change your printer?" screen and a user must click OK. It is one of those silly things and it's just an extra click, but it's unnecessary. Yet, it's been there for 20 years probably! That's just a small example.

This is an interesting question because they've been making improvements continuously over the last 25 years. That's one of the things that has caused JD Edwards to sustain itself. Where they might be able to make added improvements are probably in specialized features. If you have something that is a specialized industry use, then focus more on that. Just like this last year, the Oil & Gas SIG got together and they said, "Well, people who do downhole drilling, they do rental tools. They actually need a module that would enable them to be able to rent assets." So the SIG put together a proposal to Oracle for a developed rental tools module. Oracle heard them and they actually took it and they put it together, so in release 9.1, there is a petroleum-based rental tool module.

When it comes to work scheduling in their maintenance module, it could be better. Having come from different platforms at different companies I've seen better. I think it could be more intuitive, and I struggle with training my people on how to use it. I can use it and so can and there are several of us that do just fine and great with it, but when it comes to the average person, it's a real struggle. We say, "OK, now you're going to have this job and this is what you're going to do," and that's the one. Of all the things we train them to do in JD Edwards to help us with our business, that's the one we struggle with, is that training right there.

My concern is that it's not keeping pace with what's happening in the real world. Technology's moving on so quickly that the software is struggling to keep up. The company's not really investing enough in the product for additional innovations. For example, it needs to be updated as it looks the same as it did 10 years ago. The UI needs an update and now people are going to buy third-party products more because those are better than JD Edwards at doing specific tasks. Another example of this is that you need to have a third-party tool for reporting and you have to integrate it.

I think they could maybe expand the financial side. It's not complex but they could perhaps bring in things like the IMS. Aside from that, I think the manufacturing is really good. I think it's one of the best of all the ERPs, they have very good manufacturing.

It's difficult to pinpoint additional features to include because everything depends on your company and the industries and clients you work with because normally what JD Edwards does is follow the needs of the client and industry standard specifics. They constantly make small improvements and implement innovations. That said, I would like to see more use cases so new customers can see references from existing customer experiences in different industries.
