I did not choose JIRA Portfolio myself, as it was already implemented in my organization when I joined. However, there are some other options that are similar to JIRA Portfolio in terms of project management and road mapping. Some of the most popular JIRA alternatives are:

• GanttProject: An open source desktop project management tool that focuses on creating and managing Gantt charts. It allows users to create tasks, assign resources, set dependencies, and track progress. It is free to download and use⁴.

Of course, there may be other tools that suit your needs better. You can always do more research or try out different tools before making a decision. 😊

I find it simple compared to Azure DevOps. Comparing both Azure DevOps and Jira, then Jira is simpler compared to DevOps.

Jira is the standard across the globe. This is the market leader for maintaining or managing software development, and it has cost advantages over other available tools. 

We compared five different products last year, including JIRA Portfolio, BigPicture (which is another plugin available on the Atlassian marketplace), JIRA Align, and a Micro Focus Solution. We also looked at Planview, which we already use to forecast for budgeting purposes.

We chose JIRA Portfolio for two reasons: firstly, due to the fact that it was connected directly with to JIRA, so we have a direct synchronization between BigPicture and Jira Portfolio, and secondly because you don't have to really plan anything to make it happen.

The difference between JIRA Align and JIRA Portfolio is that JIRA Align is for a large company, for example, a multinational and when you want to aggregate several JIRA instances. As we have only one Jira instance, it's more accurate for us to take on something like JIRA Portfolio.

We needed complete visualization for our product which JIRA Portfolio was very capable of. As a product tracking tool, it was very good.

When considering the product solutions, I was looking for functionality comparisons between an SDM (Service Desk Management) BMC (Baseboard Management Controller) remedy. I'm sort of interested to understand what are the major benefits or differences between those two. I think that was really where I was trying to just get some help. I've got a team of about 169 people in the project and I was just trying to see where I could get information very quickly without having to go to the vendors. A lot of resources just house people with more questions than answers.

We considered ALM Octane. The price of Jira and ALM Octane is comparable. We also looked at Micro Focus and CA PPM.
