Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business Initial Setup

Karim Mostafa - PeerSpot reviewer

The installation was quite straightforward. The basic installation is quick. However, customization takes longer, especially with specific privacy settings and organization details.

As new business needs arise, we may need to adjust settings, control features, allow specific actions, or deny others. This is an ongoing process throughout the organization.

We had trouble deploying the solution as we ended up getting many failures, which was not helpful.

Most of the time, it's from the script I wrote myself, and I used to deploy it before in the previous version. We're using Security Center 13 in the version and it was working fine, and we're still using the same application. At the same time, also with version 13 it's very slow and has a large number of failures. Right now, I'm using another tool to deploy the software to the computer to get around issues.

I am able to manage the solution myself. I manage the server.

Setting up Kaspersky isn't complex at all. It's straightforward. You install the server, and then you can install the agent remotely. It didn't take very long either. For post-installation maintenance, we have different sites, and each site has an engineer responsible for handling Kaspersky. The product doesn't necessarily require this many engineers. It's only because we have different locations. Right now, we have five or six engineers across the various sites.

The installation was easy, all you need to do is install it with the installer. The configuration is a bit tricky, though. You can do it yourself if you are knowledgeable in this area, but if not, you may need help from the vendor. We had a team of three or four who handled deployment, in addition to the support we received from the vendor.

Installation time will depend on the organization since each organization will have different things to configure. It should take somewhere between half an hour to an hour to configure, but it depends on the size of the organization.

The initial setup requires a certified Kaspersky technical person. It's not an installation just anyone in IT can pull off. It's not like some solutions where you just do a few clicks and you are up and running. It's an involved process. You need a strong knowledge base.

You need at least two technical people (engineers) for deployment and maintenance.

I wouldn't say that the initial setup is very straightforward and very user friendly. However, it's not very complex either. With a little bit of training and a little bit of education, anybody - any engineer, any IT person - can handle it. Of course, that's once they get used to it, it becomes very easy for them.

If you talk about end-to-end deployment, and, for example, if you have 100 users on the network, it take about six to eight hours, or one day, to deploy everything. Therefore, if you have a bigger number of users, for example, about 500, then it takes about a week.

When I say about a week, it means that after deployment and installation of every single computer they have on their network, they need to still do the fine-tuning. Typically that means waiting for it to mature and fit into their network. Just a deployment without all of that taken into consideration may be just two to three days. After that, we give them two, three more days to see if there is any need to fine-tune the system or the administration perspective. That's how we calculate about a week's worth of time.

If it's a small network, up to 500 users, one expert technical person is enough to handle the implementation.
