I used multiple different solutions previously, such as TestComplete, Selenium, and Micro Focus UFT.  Katalon Studio is similar to Micro Focus UFT in supporting multiple platforms.

For Selenium, we need to have quite a good programming knowledge to automate any project. We have to write code for the entire configuration. Katalon has a good interface and is already configured.

Prior to using Katalon Studio, we were using Tricentis. We switched because it is a free tool and currently, they are unable to maintain it.

In terms of features, the usability of Tricentis is okay. It has unlimited executions and storage. They have community support, which I don't believe Katalon has, as they resolve concerns primarily through ticketing.

I have used Selenium, Appium, and Micro Focus UFT. If we wanted to use Selenium or Appium, then we would require to build their framework which Katalon didn't require. Also, pricing was a factor in the decision-making process.

In comparison to other vendors, the solution's price is less. It supports multiple easy-to-learn languages. Also, it has the best API integration and UI features. Although, the debugging process is time-consuming for larger test cases. It takes a long time to begin the test from the start and navigate it.

We actually started with a solution called Selenium. However, the Selenium GUI was not as comprehensive and the solution itself was not easy to use. We moved to Katalon due to the fact that it was free of charge, and had the record and playback facilities we required.

We have used, and continue to use, an in-house automation tool. When that company developed our SIEM work, we built custom SEIM for work in Java and Selenium.

We simply tried Katalon as we were using different operating systems and we wanted to try a solution that worked across them.

We previously utilized Katalon for demo purposes. We also used Selenium, not Selenium HQ, but Selenium alone. And I think we are utilizing Cypress and Cucumber with Selenium, in different flavors of languages, et cetera.

We are trying to get away from Micro Focus products because they're extremely expensive. For functional testing, we're migrating to Katalon Studio, for example.

In the organization as a whole, people are using UFT from Micro Focus, and they are paying a lot of money for it. From the perspective of the user, I would say that this solution is better than UFT, and would encourage people to migrate from UFT to Katalon.

Personally, I have also used Rational Functional Tester, Tricentis Tosca, and Ranorex.

Tosca has a very good analysis, but if you're working with complex web GUIs, such as Angular for example, then Tosca is a pain in the neck. Tosca is more for test analysis.

Ranorex is a good product and it is more flexible. I believe that it can handle Windows GUIs, which Katalon cannot do at the moment. However, Katalon is free, and they are also implementing Winium if we should have the need for Windows GUIs.

Robot Framework. However, it required more technical involvement, so the dev team needed to join and spent time setting up before our QA could join.

Within the department, we were previously using Selenium a few years back for teaching testing. We actually switched to Katalon from student suggestions. In the future, we may change again.

The most important thing about the product is that we can use it to teach about testing. So it was not imperative to switch but it is also good for students to have varied product experiences.

Prior to Katalon Studio, we were using UFT for our testing. We switched because Katalon is free and doesn't cost any money. It works in the meantime, and they have the capabilities that we need. The cost was definitely a factor.

Prior to this solution, we were using TestNG. It is more about writing automation code as opposed to using an automation tool. Using it means that you have to write a lot of code. Code snippets will do for some testing but if you want to do regression testing then there is a lot more to do. One of the reasons that we implemented Postman, and evaluated Katalon Studio, was to get away from writing code and using something more stable.
