Trellix Endpoint Security Other Advice

We're a partner and reseller.

We're working with the most recent three versions. It is 10.9 right now. Previously, it was 9.5 and then 8.7.

We have the solution deployed on-premises and on the cloud as well.

I'd advise potential new users to look at all packages before implementing Trellix and to look into configurations right at the outset.

I'd rate the solution seven out of ten.

The solution's effectiveness depends a lot on the stations that you want to install it on. I will not recommend Trellix Endpoint Security for people with a lot of small text files on the computer. The DLP solution is quite okay. It is not so easy to configure in terms of the computers and permission to allow USB devices on specific computers.

Overall, I rate Trellix Endpoint Security a seven out of ten.

The solution is in-house, on-premises.

There are 300 people making use of the solution in our organization.

When it comes to the question of whether I would recommend this solution to others, we can see that McAfee greatly lags behind CrowdStrike, Palo Alto Cortex, Cynet and Sophos, which are the top performing security solutions on the market.

I would rate McAfee Endpoint Security as a five or six out of ten.

I am using the latest version of Trellix Endpoint Security. Using Trellix Endpoint Security depends upon the user's organizational needs. If their only concern is containing and taking the triage image, and if they are comfortable doing forensics with a deadline, then they can use Trellix Endpoint Security. But if some companies want to integrate their in-house or third-party tools, Trellix Endpoint Security is not a good option.

Overall, I rate Trellix Endpoint Security a nine out of ten.

The support phase needs improvement, specifically in reducing the time taken to respond to calls. Additionally, the EDR functionality in Intelix requires enhancement. While McAfee fulfilled product functionality even without strong support, the introduction of EDR seems to be partial and lacks automated response capabilities. The overall rating for Trellix Endpoint Security would be an eight.

I would definitely tell people to try the tool. They must go through and test out different solutions. Trellix Endpoint Security is fairly easy to use and manage for an enterprise solution. I'm in the process of getting more visibility for my service desk. The ability to lock it back down and only give what I want the service desk to see is valuable because it gives it a little bit more visibility without affecting what I've done as an enterprise admin. Overall, I rate the tool a nine out of ten.

While the solutions we use are on-premises, the latest upgraded services that we use are moving into the cloud, and the endpoints are on-premises. Now it's sort of a hybrid solution.

I'd choose McAfee as maybe the third-best option, based on the experience I've had with it and the issues we've faced.

From a customer point of view what they need to look out for is just mainly some of the products that they use to make sure the exclusions are correct. The processes that they need to exclude, as well, are done correctly. It is mainly on the exclusions to ensure they don't have any impact.

I recommend that the client needs to be aware of what McAfee can do for them. If the engineer can implement the solution, he'll just follow the book, and he's not going to get the best experience from the product.

To not impact the computer or the endpoint's performance, you need to finetune the policies. If the engineer doesn't have that kind of experience, you won't get the best out of the product. The client needs to get an engineer with a lot of performance tuning experience to get the most out of the product.

On a scale from one to ten, I would give McAfee Endpoint Security a nine.

I would advise, if somebody's looking at buying a brand new solution fresh or have a solution coming up for renewal, to look at the next generation antivirus products. The next-generation products are far more sophisticated. They might be a little higher in price, but in terms of manageability, updates, and the packet size, they are far superior.

McAfee has released something called Envision. It's a next-generation antivirus. In this other solution, they have incorporated a lot of next-generation technologies. It's a different license and a higher-priced license altogether.

Overall, I would rate this solution seven out of ten.

Unfortunately, most clients have chosen to remove McAfee and have switched to Silence because of its ease of use. They are not interested in updates.

I feel McAfee Endpoint Security is a good, mature product, although the price of the technology poses an issue. In Pakistan and Asia, there is a different kind of field environment than in Europe and the United States. I recommend McAfee VirusScan to everyone in an enterprise environment. Part of the reason is that nowadays everyone is working from home. Their systems and devices have to be secure when they are connecting externally to the internal network with whatever device they are using. They should have at least one security solution in their system so that they can avoid vulnerabilities that they may encounter outside of the secure internal network. VirusScan ensures that is happening.

On a scale from one to ten where one is the worst and ten is the best, I would rate McAfee VirusScan Enterprise as a nine-out-of-ten. It is a very good solution and gives good blanket protection.

There are many other endpoint security solutions that are available today, but McAfee Suite has several distinct advantages when you make a procurement decision. For example:

  • All of the information, data, malware signature profiles, intelligence gathering, alerts, warnings and so on can be accessed and viewed very easily from just one console
  • You do not have to overspend on security technology, because all of the features described earlier comes as one unified, cohesive set. McAfee Suite also leverages all of the existing security features of the operating systems and virtualized environments also previously mentioned. So in the end, there is really nothing more that you need to add on
  • McAfee Suite can work as a single security solution for all kinds and types of device hardware and software such as workstations, servers, wireless/mobile devices, containers, virtual instances, and even those objects found in the Internet of Things (IoT)
  • McAfee Suite has been comprehensively tested by certified third parties and has proven itself in the real world

The solution does a fine job of integration.

It is deployed in the cloud.

My organization is very big. Like I said, we're systems integrators. As we are a distribution company, I am in a position to speak from a technical point of view. I've actually seen environments that reach 16,000. I did the deployment for a bank in Ghana, which is under the management of the Pan-African Bank and is responsible for management throughout all of Africa, save for Nigeria. This involved around 15,000 nodes. There is another bank in Nigeria with between 4,000 to 6,000 nodes and still others with around 12,000.

I would definitely recommend this solution to other users. Leaving aside the fact that I sell this solution, when it comes to endpoint security solutions the world over, McAfee is one of the best, if not the best.

Everything has been simplified. On the endpoint side, there is also a lot of improvement.

When Intel acquired McAfee they worked on the protocol so that all vendors can work on the same platform. It's a very big improvement in McAfee. All McAfee products talk to each other. Other vendor's products can join this platform as well so it makes it more powerful on the enterprise side for McAfee.

With a knowledgeable technician that has a lot of experience with the product, you won't have problems. If you work with a less experienced person, implementing the solution can become a problem.

I would rate this solution a nine out of 10.

I would like to recommend the solution. It's better, and pricing wise, it's worth it. It's really worth it as compared to other advanced malware security solutions in the market. They are costly, like anything. And the technical support good, even though the solution is new. The solution is not yet mature. Pricing is fairly affordable for all enterprises, big or small.

I would rate this solution an 8.5 out of 10. Because sometimes it makes machines really slow. There are a lot of features. I enabled all the layers but it sometimes makes systems slow. The solution keeps on adding engines and engines. If they can add everything in one engine instead of having multiple engines, then I would really say the system would work faster. I'd say it's not that bad, but it's not that good. The speed is still better than other versions in the past that came out.

For performance, they have introduced a new feature. McAfee decides what they want to scan and it reduces the performance of the system. So generally what happens is when McAfee scans a file, it stores the files in the cache. Next time, if there are any changes in the file, then only it will scan the file. Otherwise, it will not scan it. That's how they have increased in the performance inside.

I would rate this product eight out of 10.

In new units, the initial agenda, they are changing a lot of things and there are lots of bugs we normally we didn't use to see. Again, we had to rely on some updates, and the way that it appears, the mechanism, they have changed it. So lots of things involved like bugs and issues related to the different parts of the product are challenging. Otherwise, it's good.

Even though it is a little expensive, the price is worth it. They come up with a complete home security eco-system that will unify the security under one easy interface.

Going to their new product, McAfee GW Security, security in the Internet GateWay, McAfee is clearly on the right track.

I was responsible for the introduction of this new type of products in my former company. I evaluated many brands (about ten), new startups, and traditional big security vendors. In my opinion, they have the clearest view of what has to be done now, (in the GW and in the Cloud), and what will be done in the future.

Some startups have good innovative products, but for sure lack the ability to execute that big vendors have. Big vendors have better malware detection rates, faster response to issues, etc.

Considering the exponential growth of Home IoT (most don’t have security), McAfee GW Security is, and will be, essential to stop hacking.

In summary, this is a good product and they have most aspects covered. That said, it needs better integration with third-party products. Even the integration with other McAfee products can be improved further.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Be aware of the time it takes to deploy it as we experienced some slow startups.

I would advise to compare it with other players and ensure it can deliver, especially on the detection of ransomware and advanced threats.

The system my current organization uses does not allow for administrative changes from the endpoint itself, like McAfee Endpoint Protection does. This feature is very useful when testing firewall rules and HIPS configurations for specific programs and sites that only certain network segments may need to access.

You should use a licensed version of an anti-virus, preferably McAfee.

Even though it took me one or two years to get comfortable with it, I would rate McAfee Endpoint Security at nine on a scale from one to ten. All-in-all, our customers seem to be okay with some of the restrictions and the relevant risk with McAfee Endpoint Security.

This is not a set-it-forget-it product. I can say that at least one IT employee has to be responsible to this product.
