Microsoft Azure Object Storage Valuable Features

PankajKumar13 - PeerSpot reviewer

We can do data queries easily. If it's a JSON document or XML document, mostly we deliver the APIs, calls, and all. The document is stored as an object stored in the Blob Storage. Then, using the Databricks, we try to process that JSON and then load it into a Delta Lake table. That is where we interact mostly with Object Storage.

The initial setup is straightforward.

I appreciate the scalability of this solution; it is fully scalable and excellent for certain tasks. One thing I particularly like is the block solution, where files are divided into parts and sent through the firewall in parallel, making it incredibly fast. However, there have been some issues with disconnections, especially when downloading large files. It works perfectly for handling many smaller files, though. The initial storage options, like data lake storage, are diverse and cater to various needs such as big data analytics. As a certified professional architect expert, I find it crucial to understand specific requirements to make the most of these solutions.

We mostly work with Blob Storage, and it is a very good resource for unstructured storage. Blob Storage is one of the best resources in Azure for storing unstructured data such as files, video files, audio files, and Excel files. Currently, Blob Storage is the cheapest and best solution, with very good features for unstructured data.

The reason is that I believe they only offer the corporate interface we use, and perhaps they should consider creating a historical customer interface. I haven't created a virtual machine; instead, I've established a personal GED. This allows me to provide customers with the necessary role functions, enabling them to download files without incurring excessive costs.

The features of Microsoft Azure Object Storage that are most valuable are the ones providing encryption.  Access is more controlled using private endpoints and SaaS token keys. Many access control features exist.

I also enjoy the size of the Blob Storage, it can store up to three gigs. Another good feature is that we can host 10 static websites.

AzCopy is probably the best feature. It's a scripting app or a scripting function. Whether it's a Linux batch or a PowerShell script, you can essentially just send a file via a line of code with a specific key.

It's a very powerful tool, however, we don't use it to the right level. We are still learning the tool. We have this very powerful engine that we are not yet utilizing to the next level. At the moment, we're just trying to see whether we have automated ML scripts that we can adopt to train a model, for example. Really we're using it for proof of concept. We haven't deployed anything to production.

It's easy to use.

The key feature for us is the possibility to have a copy of our data and machines outside of our premises just in case of a disaster. This is a common value not only for Azure but for any other cloud solution. This is the key aspect that made us decide to use this service. The idea of being able to hold a backup outside of our premises just in case of a disaster allows for the possibility of an easy data recovery process.

Due to the fact that now there are a lot of ransomware attacks and viruses, and there is a possibility of it actually happening, it's great that we are able to encrypt the data for extra protection.

The metadata that the solution provides is quite valuable for us. If we need to analyze the latest data from a particular department or particular user, we can simply query through the metadata we store in Azure Object Storage and simply fetch those records which are maybe one day or one month old. this metadata storage is really handy for us.
