What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have 5,000 users using Microsoft Dynamics AX in my company.

How are customer service and support?

The support from Microsoft is good but there is always from for improvement.

I rate the support from Microsoft Dynamics AX a three out of five.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were previously using SAP. The version of SAP we are using was going to be outdated in the next five years, and instead of moving to S/4HANA, we decided to move to Microsoft Dynamics AX. We find Microsoft Dynamics AX much better than S/4HANA.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of Microsoft Dynamics AX is of a medium level of difficulty. It's a straightforward process, but we found that sometimes we encountered problems after releasing the codes.

The full deployment of Microsoft Dynamics AX takes approximately 18 months.

I rate the setup of Microsoft Dynamics AX a three out of five.

What about the implementation team?

We directly worked with the vendor for the implementation of Microsoft Dynamics AX.

What other advice do I have?

I would advise others to choose limited customization, and use the end product.

I rate Microsoft Dynamics AX a six out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Microsoft Azure

Has a straightforward setup process, but the product documentation needs improvement
Pros and Cons
  • "According to user feedback, the product's most valuable features are modern web-based accessibility and user-friendly interface."
  • "From a consultant's point of view, I recommend an enhancement in terms of detailed documentation for the products on the website."

What is our primary use case?

We use the product for business optimization and to streamline processes. It helps us set alerts and notifications to the employees for inter-departmental tasks. It reduces the complexity and completes the work earlier than manual email processing.

What is most valuable?

According to user feedback, the product's most valuable features are modern web-based accessibility and user-friendly interface. The user interface is simpler and more interactive than Oracle.

What needs improvement?

From a consultant's point of view, I recommend an enhancement in terms of detailed documentation for the products on the website. We already have tutorials, but they are very generic and brief. It becomes difficult to understand as no case studies are associated with the process or modules.

Many users are not aware of upcoming releases, feature changes, or modifications. Implementing a targeted notification system, where consultants receive updates based on specialization, would be beneficial. It would help everyone stay informed, fostering their ability to offer enhanced solutions to clients by remaining up-to-date with the development.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have used Microsoft Dynamics AX for seven years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the platform's stability an eight and a half out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable platform. We have enterprise-level clients, including banks and other industries like healthcare, real estate, and construction, especially ground engineering within the construction domain.

I rate the scalability a seven and a half out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

My experience with customer service and support for Dynamics AX has been mixed. When dealing with standard functionalities, the support has been exceptional. However, the situation changes if any customization or external code is involved. In those cases, the support team tends to disclaim responsibility, which can create complications in resolving issues. I rate the support for standard modules and functionalities, around eight or nine out of ten. But when customization is involved, the support rating might drop to around four or five out of ten due to limited assistance with customized elements.

How was the initial setup?

The setup is relatively straightforward. Installation is usually handled by the admin team, simplifying the process. Configuration can be manageable with sufficient experience, especially with the geo model. Setting up finance-related configurations like channel accounts, main accounts, currencies, and geo configurations covers a significant part of the setup, approximately 40%. After this, we focus on the specific domain—finance, sales, or manufacturing—to complete the process.

Microsoft's cloud engineers can manage deployment if it's on the cloud. We often need just one admin person onsite for coordination. On-premise setups typically involve more personnel. Initiating a project from scratch requires a team of database specialists, product experts, and admins, usually around three to four individuals, to collaborate and handle the process.

The deployment time varies based on complexity and user count. If users are limited, installation, creating virtual machines and sandboxes, and setting up views are influenced by the admin's efficiency. Licensing, user activation, and machine streamlining can impact the timeline, especially when dealing with multiple machines. Overall, the duration highly depends on the licensing scale and machinery purchase.

In cloud deployments, Microsoft is responsible for updates and platform maintenance. On the other hand, in on-premise setups, the implementation partner's admin team works with monitoring and manages regular updates. It can be more tedious than the automated cloud-based maintenance provided by Microsoft.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The platform's price offering is good. However, it gets costlier with time as more data accumulates in the cloud. My last client used to renew the license every six months.

What other advice do I have?

They should consider the size of their business, operational requirements, budget, the number of employees, etc. while making a purchase decision. The cost of licensing and maintenance will accumulate every year and be recurring. They need to consider all these aspects and compare them with all the products they explore.

I rate Microsoft Dynamics AX a six out of ten.

A cloud solution for payroll, sales, and supply chain management

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution for automation. We use different modules, like, payroll, protection, sales, and getting supply chain. We're using it to streamline our resources from the start of the supply chain, to purchase. We are using it for payroll, HR, and protection.

We create demand, purchase, and acquisition by sending quotations. We analyze and sell them at the best price. We receive it in the warehouse. When it comes to the warehouse, they issue barcodes in the inventory. Finally, it goes to finance to make journal entries.

What is most valuable?

We are using Microsoft Dynamics AX for warehouse, finance, payroll, HR, production, enterprise assets, and assets except budgeting.

What needs improvement?

Managing admin is difficult. Also, it is expensive and can be cheaper.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Microsoft Dynamics AX for 10 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product’s stability is good enough.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable. The solution is very good for small to medium businesses.

75 users including 50 guests and 25 enterprise users are using this solution.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support is good. They resolve issues at their level.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is easy. It is doing everything according to our requirements.

The solution is on the cloud. They send us one form for the requirements. We are making the requirement. Developers are making this machine. At the end, we download the virtual machine setup for our developer setup.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution’s pricing is reasonable compared to Oracle.

What other advice do I have?

We have a team but one developer is there for maintenance.

Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

Flexible and cost effective with the ability to automate business processes
Pros and Cons
  • "It is flexible and cost-effective."
  • "The product takes some training to get up to speed on all functionality and modules in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 ERP system."

What is our primary use case?

Microsoft Dynamics AX 2021 is an integrated Enterprise Resource Planning system, that you can use for everything that a business requires to operate. It includes modules for manufacturing and production, inventory management and distribution, time and expense management, project management, human resource management, and some CRM functionality (such as sales and marketing). The application fits a wide range of industries and comes with integration capabilities with a wide range of 3 party applications. The application aids businesses to enhance visibility across the organization, improves financial controls, increases forecasting accuracy, boosts staff productivity, and gives better oversight. You can also develop your own customizations and new modules from the backend.

How has it helped my organization?

The solution has helped us to make smarter and faster decisions

Innovation is the key to success in this fast-paced business environment and the Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 ERP solution puts an organization on the fast track by unifying complex data, providing the business with predictive analysis through KPIs and BI reporting tools. With Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012, decision-making is quick and efficient.

Microsoft Dynamics AX reduces costs on the organization's server maintenance, including:

  • Eliminating new purchases of servers.
  • Reducing server room maintenance.

What is most valuable?

The workflow is the most valuable aspect of the solution.

AX provides the capability to easily automate business processes through customizable and template-based workflows within each module. Individuals in different roles are prompted to process workflow documents via their role center in AX or through email.

It is flexible and cost-effective.

Due to the constantly changing market, a flexible ERP solution would be a good choice. With Microsoft Dynamics AX, an organization gets access to a wide range of products under the solution that adds value. This makes it a cost-effective solution.

What needs improvement?

The product takes some training to get up to speed on all functionality and modules in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 ERP system. Some users complain that the interface is not very user-friendly. An improved interface with a user-friendly approach will be an improvement on the application.

Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 ERP systems development and customizations can be quite expensive to implement. You will need to run some trials to ensure the application is the right solution for your organization's needs and budget. The cost of customization can be reduced by introducing DIY measures

Its mobile app only works for Windows phones and does not offer all of its features. Some users experience difficulty connecting to some modules, functionality and tools while using the mobile app for Microsoft Dynamics AX. An improvement would be to create mobile versions for Androids and iOS devices.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is very scalable.

How are customer service and support?

The customer service and support teams are always available to treat your support requests.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used other ERP solutions, however, I switched to Microsoft Dynamics AX because it gave me the ability for customization and development

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was complex due to the need for coding, customizations, and expertise.

What about the implementation team?

We implemented the solution through a vendor.

They showed a high level of professionalism.

What was our ROI?

Our ROI is over 27%.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

With the new feature from Microsoft D365, you can choose to go for only the modules that your organization requires and pay for that alone. This reduces a bit of cost even though the cost for the application is above the average.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I evaluated other options like SAGE, QuickBooks, and SAP.

What other advice do I have?

It's actually a good solution for mid-sized and enterprise organizations.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Comprehensive solution needing flexibility and additional enhancements
Pros and Cons
  • "We're using the solution for financial modules, specifically focusing on consolidation, financial configuration, management reporting for warehousing, sales. Most of the features of Microsoft Dynamics AX are good. The overall structure and functions are great. The solution is stable. The initial setup is straightforward."
  • "The product needs better admin control. There is room for improvement in flexibility, reporting, and dashboards. Artificial intelligence should be incorporated. I have concerns regarding partners, specifically in the implementation and deployment of Microsoft Dynamics."

What is our primary use case?

In 2012, I analyzed the market and found that Microsoft Dynamics provides services all over the world. We chose the product based on that criteria. It's been amazing.

We're using the solution for financial modules, specifically focusing on consolidation, financial configuration, management reporting for warehousing, sales, and some customizations related to the sales module. As an investment company, we configured the sales module to function like stock sales, which allowed us to sell stocks and manage sales processes accordingly.

How has it helped my organization?

The solution has automated manual daily operations across multiple departments, especially in financial operations and the business cycle. The business has achieved its module.

It has streamlined sales, warehouse management, and inventory processes and facilitated easy acquisitions. I’m presently analyzing the product for subsidiaries’ usage, not for my holding company.

What is most valuable?

Most of the features of Microsoft Dynamics AX are good. The overall structure and functions of the solution are great.

What needs improvement?

The product needs better admin control, and there is room for improvement in flexibility, reporting, and dashboards. Artificial intelligence should be incorporated. I also have concerns regarding partners, specifically in the implementation and deployment of Microsoft Dynamics. The partner we engaged with within Egypt lacked awareness of many features during the configuration and implementation.

It was strange to find the partner unaware of the function and service that Microsoft granted him to develop and deploy for their customers. This was a big issue. Microsoft needs to establish specific criteria for selecting representatives. It's not just about sending representatives but also about how you add value to the customer. I'm seeking not only to proceed with the Microsoft Dynamics Series but also to engage with a representative who can address and represent my business needs.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for the past ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable. However, the stability is average compared to SAP and Oracle.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The product is scalable. We have 16 users for the solution.

How are customer service and support?

Only two individuals are needed to cover for technical support.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. I have no issue regarding the system with my team. The deployment is okay. However, it is not about deployment. It's about configuration. Deployment is a group of steps. The main thing is to configure. Moreover, the product is currently deployed on-premises, but I want to move it to the cloud.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Right now we are not paying for licenses.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I’m working with Odoo.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Has a great Supply Chain Management feature, but they are unable to handle different currencies
Pros and Cons
  • "Supply Chain Management is an excellent feature."
  • "There is room for improvement when handling various currencies within the current Microsoft Dynamics AX system."

What is our primary use case?

The product helps us to operate in various sectors apart from producing associated calls. They cover areas like warehouse management, finance, and more. We usually have medium to large enterprises as customers.

What is most valuable?

Supply Chain Management is an excellent feature. Finance also performs well. There's an element of project management present, which I think makes it a good overall product.

What needs improvement?

There is room for improvement when handling various currencies within the current Microsoft Dynamics AX system. The ability to manage different currencies like USD or Euro while maintaining separate books of accounts requires improvement without the need for customization.

For how long have I used the solution?

I am using Microsoft Dynamics AX for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability has been satisfactory and there haven't been any other areas of concern.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is scalable.

How are customer service and support?

The overall support is good, however, I haven’t processed it myself.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I initially worked with SAP solutions. The difference relies on the user's needs, as they are highly competitive and operate across various industries. Thus, they are equally proficient.

How was the initial setup?

The setup is straightforward but, there have been certain problems. However, with Microsoft, there are ample resources available on the platform to address these issues effectively. This is definitely a positive aspect.

The solution is deployed on the cloud and requires two to three people for maintenance.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

In relation to the cloud, it might be expensive for a longer duration. However, it's essential to consider the demands of enterprise users. While it's cost-effective in the short run, it becomes relatively costly in the long run.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend the solution and I would rate it a seven out of ten overall.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

The technical support is good.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

The initial setup is mostly straightforward but here are some requisition areas that can be complex.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price of the solution is high.

What other advice do I have?

I give the solution a nine out of ten.

Some organizations are switching to Odoo because it is cheaper than Microsoft Dynamics AX but it is a new solution and not proven. I prefer Microsoft Dynamics AX because it is an established solution.

High performance, quick support, and scalable
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable features of Microsoft Dynamics AX are ease of use and performance."
  • "Microsoft Dynamics AX can improve by having a more modern user interface. It should be more modular and dynamic. Additionally, the solution could be easier to connect with APIs with other technologies."

What is our primary use case?

I had an on-premise deployment of Microsoft Dynamics AX and then we moved into the cloud.

We use different Microsoft Dynamics AX modules. We used it for ERP, which includes resource management but we used them for sales engagement. We recently used the solution in CQP management to configure the modeling.

I have been using Microsoft Dynamics AX for approximately two years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability of Microsoft Dynamics AX is good.
