Its chat functionality is useful but it isn't so stable
Pros and Cons
  • "Microsoft Teams is a scalable tool because it integrates with many other tools and different kinds of apps."
  • "If you talk about the tool's disadvantages, it consists of losing connection. It's also a problem that it only stores information for up to 40 days. The aforementioned areas can be considered for improvement."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution in our company primarily for collaboration, file sharing, and the chat functionality it provides our team.

What needs improvement?

If you talk about the tool's disadvantages, it consists of losing connection. It's also a problem that it only stores information for up to 40 days. The aforementioned areas can be considered for improvement.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Microsoft Teams for almost four years. I am using the solution's latest version.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability-wise, the major issue is with the connection since it loses pieces of chats in between. Therefore, people don't rely on the tool since they know that whatever they have communicated with someone may not always be in their chat history.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Microsoft Teams is a scalable tool because it integrates with many other tools and different kinds of apps. It is a really good tool because you can plan your meetings, you can take notes, and run your scrum meets. In all the aforementioned aspects, it's really good.

Maybe more than 500 users are using the tool in our company.

How are customer service and support?

Only the IT personnel interacting with Microsoft would have experience with Microsoft's technical support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Slack was used quite a lot before. Microsoft Teams is a replacement for Skype as well. Skype has been totally ruled out now by our company.

Microsoft Teams is much better because Skype is just a very small tool used for its chat functionality. With Teams, you get many different features for sharing files. However, Microsoft Teams has a problem of losing connection many times, though not always, but it gets slow. It has the problem of storing information for only up to 30 days or 40 days, depending upon your organization's policy. Hence, not many people at times prefer to interact over the tool since their conversation gets lost.

What other advice do I have?

It's a good product. I think that with the package of Microsoft Outlook itself, most organizations are going forward with Microsoft Teams. I am not aware if there is anything else that they would be looking forward to, but I can say that the tool has a scope for improvement. As a user of the tool, I can say that Microsoft Teams is not a 100 percent reliable solution.

Trust is the main factor. I see that users do not trust the tool, and they still prefer to send emails because they feel that whatever information they are sending using the tool may get lost. Hence, that makes it a big concern.

I rate the overall solution a six out of ten.

Offers seamless integration and features like Planner, SharePoint Integration, and channel functionality
Pros and Cons
  • "The initial setup was okay."
  • "In terms of functionality, I would like to see support for multi-user or multiple windows for the File structure."

What is most valuable?

I would say the three most important features are Planner, SharePoint Integration with the file structure, and the Channel functionality. With the channel functionality, we can create and manage people, including external users.

What needs improvement?

There are two topics I'd like to address regarding Microsoft Teams software. First, it is programmed in Electron, which, in my opinion, makes it sluggish. Improving the performance and reducing high CPU utilization would be a great enhancement.

Secondly, in terms of functionality, I would like to see support for multi-user or multiple windows for the File structure. Currently, this can only be done through the browser, and you need to switch accounts to access different windows. Additionally, better support for working with multiple tenants is an ongoing issue.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been an early adopter of Microsoft Teams. I've been using it since the platform was developed. So, it's been around 15 years, more or less.

We currently use the latest version.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable solution. Our entire company operates on this platform, and it has proven to be quite stable. Currently, around 70 end-users are working with Microsoft Teams.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

For our scenarios, scalability is quite high. We mainly set up infrastructure for small and medium corporate clients, so we use the public cloud. We have not faced any scalability issues for up to 20 users, which is the maximum size of clients we typically serve. So, for our specialization, there haven't been any scalability concerns.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was okay. For me, as a technical guy, it's easy.

Within a day, we are able to configure everything. Then, there is domain setup, which may take a little time to propagate the domain and other settings because we are configuring clients with websites. So, in general, the configuration takes about two days, and the clients are up and running.

What about the implementation team?

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We primarily sell the packages we receive from Microsoft to our customers, including email services and other features. From my perspective, the pricing is totally okay.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We also use Slack but primarily we are more of a Microsoft-based company.

We heavily use Microsoft Teams. Moreover, it's interesting that Salesforce acquired Slack. We do use Slack internally for some occasions. But, in general, most of our clients in corporate environments prefer Microsoft Teams. So, we have a clear preference for flexibility with Microsoft Teams.

What other advice do I have?

Microsoft Teams is definitely worth adopting. It's a great way to start digitalizing your company and enabling remote work. Without this tool, it's challenging to operate efficiently. There are alternative solutions like Slack, but they are not as compatible with the broader Microsoft ecosystem. With Microsoft Teams, everything integrates seamlessly. You can access files and collaborate through both desktop and mobile applications.

Overall, I'd rate it an eight out of ten because a few points need improvement. Firstly, the CPU utilization can be quite high during calls, which drains the laptop battery quickly. Secondly, there is some sluggishness and delays that can be frustrating. Lastly, working with multiple tenants can be tedious and should be resolved.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Simple to use, priced well, but integration could improve
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature of Microsoft Teams is that it is easy to use."
  • "Microsoft Teams could improve the integration with Outlook because most of us are not using the last version of Outlook and it causes some issues."

What is our primary use case?

We use Microsoft Teams for training and meetings.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of Microsoft Teams is that it is easy to use.

What needs improvement?

Microsoft Teams could improve the integration with Outlook because most of us are not using the last version of Outlook and it causes some issues.

In the next release of Microsoft Teams, they should make the mobile application easier to manage. Additionally, they should add more features.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Microsoft Teams for approximately two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Microsoft Teams is a stable solution. However, we have to turn it off and reconnect sometimes.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Microsoft Teams is a scalable solution. We have more than 600 users using this solution, from all levels in my organization. We have no problem with all our users using this solution.

How are customer service and support?

I have not contacted the support from Microsoft. We have our own internal support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously used other solutions, such as Bridge and an internal application. Microsoft Teams is the easiest to use.

How was the initial setup?

The implementation of Microsoft Teams is easy on the laptop but sometimes we are facing some difficulties with the phone.

I rate the initial setup of Microsoft Teams a three out of five.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Microsoft Teams is priced less than other solutions, such as Bridge.

I rate the price of Microsoft Teams a four out of five.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Microsoft Teams a seven out of ten.

A good solution for meetings, collaborations, and file sharing, but extracting the older version of a file takes time
Pros and Cons
  • "You can ping, chat, and call someone, and at the same time, on the next tab, you can see all the documents related to what someone is referring to."
  • "Sometimes, extracting the older version of a file takes a few minutes."

What is our primary use case?

We use Microsoft Teams for meetings, collaborations, and file sharing.

How has it helped my organization?

Previously, we used to share files in SharePoint, and then someone had to pull it out, make changes, and upload it back. We used to miss those changes, and it remained on its local laptops. The best thing is that anyone can make changes to the files on Microsoft Teams. It auto-saves whatever we have done, and we can see the version within Microsoft Teams.

The basic need for any project is mostly team-specific content. Right now, if I open up my teams, I can see I have 10 to 12 different projects going on parallelly. I can easily go to Microsoft Teams and then find out what is happening where. Even though someone told me that I made some changes, I can go to Microsoft Teams and find out what changes are there. The solution helps us save time by not making us wait for someone to send an email or upload to SharePoint.

What is most valuable?

Microsoft Teams has not just one but multiple valuable features. It is very easy to collaborate. You can ping, chat, and call someone, and at the same time, on the next tab, you can see all the documents related to what someone is referring to. You can do these two things in the same place without switching windows. These two things make things faster in Microsoft Teams.

What needs improvement?

I have to do multiple tricks before I can find out the history of a given file. Sometimes, extracting the older version of a file takes a few minutes. These are the two things that I was a little bit uncomfortable with, and it took some time for me to do them.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Microsoft Teams for many years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I don't use Microsoft Teams very much, but I have never faced stability issues with the solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Thousands of people are using Microsoft Teams in our organization. I have had approximately 10 to 20 people in one Microsoft Teams call.

What other advice do I have?

Microsoft Teams is a nice product, and we have been using it for some time. It's integrated with SharePoint for content management. You can have multiple repositories simultaneously and use the versioning from Microsoft Teams. Microsoft Teams is making our life much easier as compared to sharing and uploading into a SharePoint folder. If you want to edit documents, you can open them in Microsoft Teams apps instead of a browser.

Zoom is just a portal to connect, chat, and conduct meetings. However, Microsoft Teams provides much more flexibility with additional functionalities for your files, product tracking, and issue tracking. Zoom doesn't have all these additional features. Microsoft Teams also gives me easy access to my calendar in case I integrate it with my Outlook, and I can see everything in the solution.

Overall, I rate Microsoft Teams a seven out of ten.

A scalable solution that has the ability to store all documents in one place
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution is stable."
  • "They should allow switching between windows in a Teams meeting."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution to conduct meetings with our team and customers. We also use it to create a group and store various documents so everyone can access them.

What is most valuable?

The solution's most valuable feature is its ability to store all the documents in one place.

What needs improvement?

They should allow switching between windows in a Teams meeting.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for seven to eight years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable. I've never had an issue. I rate its stability a ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is quite a scalable solution because we have over 1,500 employees using it. I rate its scalability an eight out of ten.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used Skype for Business. Later, I switched to Microsoft Teams because it is a much-improved tool comparatively. Skype has a calling and chatting interface. Microsoft Teams has more of a collaborative interface. From that perspective, Microsoft Teams is the add-on.

How was the initial setup?

The solution's initial setup is straightforward as it is easy to use. I rate the process a nine out of ten.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend the solution to others. Compared to other collaborative tools, Microsoft Teams is more beneficial because it allows you to collaborate and share key documents in one repository, keep a group that can chat about a project, and discusses along with all the documentation in one place. Additionally, it has all the integration points if I need to access a ticket about Microsoft CRM or a ticket about Salesforce CRM.

I rate it a nine out of ten.

How was the initial setup?

I rate Microsoft Teams a nine out of ten for the ease of its initial setup.

What other advice do I have?

People should have training about the solution because there are a lot of apps in Microsoft Teams that you can work on.

Overall, I rate Microsoft Teams a nine out of ten.

Has an easy setup process with valuable integration capabilities
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature of Microsoft Teams for us is the ability to share files from OneDrive seamlessly."
  • "One area where the product could be improved is its operational memory utilization."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case for Microsoft Teams is facilitating collaboration among internal company teams and external users. Teams integrate seamlessly with other Microsoft 365 products, such as Outlook for calendar management and Cobweb for additional functionalities.

How has it helped my organization?

Teams have significantly improved communication within our organization by providing a simple platform. As part of the Microsoft Office suite, it facilitates the transition of some users to Azure Active Directory, streamlining access and permissions across our organization.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of Microsoft Teams for us is the ability to share files from OneDrive seamlessly. This integration with the cloud and simplicity of usage prove beneficial.

What needs improvement?

One area where the product could be improved is its operational memory utilization. Currently, Microsoft Teams consumes a significant amount of memory when in use, which can pose challenges for users with limited memory resources on their computers.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Microsoft Teams for 3 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Sometimes, the platform automatically closes during working hours. This particular area needs improvement. I rate the stability as seven out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have 500 Microsoft Teams users in our organization. It is a scalable product. I rate the scalability an eight.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is easy. It takes a month to complete. I rate the process a nine out of ten.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

For setup costs, pricing, and licensing, I advise considering the flexibility offered by site licenses. However, it's important to be aware of potential fluctuations in pricing, as they can vary depending on factors like stability in the economic environment and national payment regulations. In our experience, pricing may differ from country to country, with some regions offering more favorable rates due to local payment arrangements. As for specific licensing options, we utilize various types, including the one-license and five-license options. The one-license option costs approximately $10 per user per month, while the five-license option averages around $35.

What other advice do I have?

We have integrated Teams as a communication channel for alert synchronization from your monitoring system, Grafana, and other tools.

We regularly use video meetings for various purposes, including IT meetings and client discussions, and find the quality excellent. We have not encountered any significant technical issues with video conferencing itself. However, there have been occasional issues related to second-factor authentication, where users may experience delays or difficulties accessing calls or messages. These issues typically require closing and reopening the program.

I recommend this product for small organizations because it offers an all-in-one solution. I rate it an eight out of ten.

Employs file sharing functionality based on SharePoint, facilitating document access and collaboration
Pros and Cons
  • "It's great for meetings and even hybrid classes, for example, where the teacher has students attending in person and online at the same time. It's really convenient for that too, and I like that you can easily share presentations."
  • "The only issue is sometimes, when I share my screen, and there's text on it, the compression can make it very blurry. If Teams could solve this problem so that text remains clear during screen sharing, that would be nice."

What is our primary use case?

We've got different groups for each course at the university on Teams, so we use it mostly as a communication platform with students and staff. We use the file-sharing function, which is based on SharePoint.

The file-sharing function is connected to the SharePoint platform, we mostly use this, and most of the time, these components are integrated with Office applications like Excel or PowerPoint.

We don't have the email function in Teams. We use a separate software for that, and unfortunately, we don't have the Calendar function.

How has it helped my organization?

Communication within the university has improved. For one, every conversation has its history well organized, making it easier to search for previous conversations or topics.

Also, the contact list views are useful; everyone from the university is there, and you can easily make a video call. It's easier for students to reach teachers, and communication is faster because you get notifications.

We also use it with the integration of Microsoft applications.

What is most valuable?

The data IP identification for each message and the ability to organize discussions in separate channels within a team.

Microsoft Teams' video conferencing capabilities are good. The direction is very good, especially since we started using that feature early on.

The experience has gotten a lot better. In the beginning, it was difficult for a lot of people in a video conference. We couldn't see all the participants or it was difficult to move the screens around. But now, it's much more convenient to use.

It's great for meetings and even hybrid classes, for example, where the teacher has students attending in person and online at the same time. It's really convenient for that too, and I like that you can easily share presentations.

Sharing presentations is easy, which is particularly convenient for hybrid classes where the teacher has students both on-site and online.

What needs improvement?

The only issue is sometimes, when I share my screen, and there's text on it, the compression can make it very blurry. If Teams could solve this problem so that text remains clear during screen sharing, that would be nice.

For how long have I used the solution?

We started using Microsoft Teams at the company four years ago.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability an eight out of ten. There have been some problems throughout using Teams, but they only affected one or two days at most.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

From my point of view,  the scalability seems very good. We didn't have any problems. It's not the highest level we have from Microsoft services, but even with courses with more than a hundred participants, there are no problems.

There are around a thousand end users in my university. Students come in and they graduate, so that number doesn't change much.

How was the initial setup?

I would rate my experience with the initial setup a nine out of ten, with ten being easy to set up.

It is easy to set up.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is okay. The higher education department manages the subscription, so I am unaware of the licensing costs.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend using different types of Teams for work. You can create several kinds of things for your work, and that's a key or very important point to select the right one for your needs.

Also, it is good to know about other applications you can integrate with it because that can also increase productivity.

Overall, I would rate the solution a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Hybrid Cloud
